I have to think at some point someone's going to develop a 6-speed manual swap for the 4C.
Someone might do a one-off for themselves, but with only 9,000 4Cs produced worldwide it seems unlikely it would be developed to be sold. Really a shame Alfa didn't offer at least a six-speed with the existing engine. Thanks for watching.
Very helpful! Thank you! I am scheduled for Left THR anterior approach in mid-February.... anxious, excited and scared!
My pleasure, glad you found it helpful. Those are all the typical emotions. Let me know how you fare when you're on the other side of surgery.
@@Life411 Certainly will do. Part of what has going through my head are the comments from folks who know folks who have had the surgery... ie. "My grandma had her hip replaced and she gets back and forth to the bathroom pretty easily now" and stuff like that... Just getting back and forth to the bathroom is NOT the life I am looking for. Know what I mean?
V8 vs V6 why???
why not???
So you're comparing the sound of a 5.5L N/A flatplane crank V8 vs a supercharged Toyota Camry engine??? It's like you compared a lightweight vs a heavyweight here XD... OFC the V8 sounds better captain obvious
Before you say "supercharger whine sound" then just pit Shelby GT 500 to this Corvette to have a more balanced opinions and choices or pit Lotus Emira's sound ahainsg other V6, not on V8 hayst
I enjoy comparing lots of things. What's the fun in comparing a Corvette C8 stock exhaust against a Corvette C8 stock exhaust with one screw removed? Sometimes comparing two very different cars highlights some really important attributes of one or the other car.
@@Life411 ehhh V6 vs V8 is unfair cuz in modern day V6 will never sound as good as crossplane or flatplane crankshaft V8
Hi had my surgery 1/21/25 only used pain medication the first night. Now only on Tylenol second day. Starting physical therapy out patient my doctor is all about mobility. I am feeling very good I don’t think I am doing enough walking it’s very very cold out so just walking in house with my walker still. Hopefully will be on a cane soon. I been training upper body and lower body for over a year I think doing that is really going to help my recovery faster
Congratulations, sounds like your surgery went well. I'm sure you're right that all that prehab work will help your recovery. Don't worry too much about not walking enough...even that can be overdone and cause a setback. If you haven't already, check out some of my other videos and you'll see what I mean. Happy healing!
So I’m wondering which way to go. I’ve had an evora and loved it. I now have the Alfa 4C and love it. I love the size, the sound, the raw. I could use a tad larger. Would the emira be the inbetween the 4C and Evora? Thinking of selling the 4C and goin back Evora or wait on an Emira i can afford .
No, the Emira and Evora are similar in size and they are also similar in size to a Porsche Cayman for example. The Elise/Exige is slightly smaller than the 4C, but even more raw and bare bones. All great cars! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@ you’re right. I kind of remember now reading about their similarities. I wanted something size wise in the middle of those two. Thank you!
Thank you. I found your video helpful and encouraging.
Glad it was helpful!
Valid points. It depends on priorities. For the owner of these cars, I believe performance is a bigger consideration than aesthetics. You might enjoy some of my videos comparing the 4C with the Lotus Elise...one video on aesthetics, one on sound, etc.
Your video is spot on. I had one hip replacement 4 years ago and going in again for the other side. It brings back some anxiety but I feel more prepared this time. Your tips are exactly what i needed to help with my prep and after surgery expectations. Thank you
My pleasure and thanks for the confirmation. Wish you a successful surgery and smooth recovery! 😺

This is sooo helpful...only thing like it on the net! THANKS mate! I'm going in at the end of February..helped me alleviate the stress
Glad you found it helpful and that it helped alleviate your stress mate! Hope you find my other hip vlogs equally helpful throughout your hip journey. Stay tuned because we're moving to a dedicated YT channel and setting up a companion web site with additional resources
great comforting video . someone in comments mention wisely "everyones journey is different " BUT we all rhyme ... ONE THING FOR CERTAIN (((( I WOULD NEVER EVER DO IT AGAIN FROM THE SIDE ))). my friend had hers done and drove home from the hospital / recovery for her was a cake walk ......... I on the other hand am in a LOT OF PAIN and discomfort 6 days in now and I now my recovery will be EXTENDED just because of the larger muscles they cut into from the side ............... TAKE A LOT LONGER TO HEAL !!! at any rate thanks for the ENCOURAGEMENT !!!!
Sorry you're in so much pain. Usually things start to get significantly better during the second week post-op, so let me know how you're feeling next week. You're welcome for the encouragement! Glad you found my video comforting...hope you find some other hip vlogs helpful in your recovery.
@@Life411 Thanks so much , I was not expecting a response. but yes I know I will look back at this as a distant memory later this year BIGGEST BIGGEST HOPE IS TO GET BACK ON THE GOLF COURSE and start travelling pain free again . Have a great week 🙏
Hi thanks for your comment but do you mean you had a posterior approach or a lateral incision...really need to know. THANKS!
@@mickkollins Yes not anterior but LATERAL
Just like Mike! Cat pictures are the best! I learned better with them. Glad to hear about the time after surgery at home!! Great tips and helps me not to worry as much.
Glad watching this video helped you not to worry as much. Cute cat in your profile pic! Check out some of my shorts...there are a bunch featuring Mike that are super cute!
Hi just come across your clip, i similar to you have had a total replacement, first 3 days out of hospital ive walked 5000 steps per day now at day 5 my leg is so swollen, what an idiot ive been, after looking at your clip im laying down, not on my bed but a recliner , not good either but i will get to my bed, we kiwis think we are bullet proof but thats gone out the window, i thank you and your cat for this very helpful info, i was told to get up and walk because of blood clots which have nearly knocked me over, i have a TR of my right ankle and knee so clots are a danger to me , anyway thanks again 😊
Thanks for watching and hopefully this little early setback helps you avoid more major setbacks throughout your recovery. As an aside, love NZ! We've been twice, twenty years apart, and did the Milford Track both times as part of those trips. Happy Healing! 😺
@Life411 your a champion, thrilled you enjoyed my homeland, and thanks again for your clip, sitting here now legs up, cheer's mate
For sure the Porsche gt4RS is absolutely a fantastic car! But….the mere fact of comparing a €60,000 car with a €200,000 car makes it clear how much the 4C was good! Put on that 30k€ mods and will be faster as much as the GT4Rs remaining MORE BEAUTY. When you drive a 4C in the street all the people turns their head with a smile. When you pass in the street with a gt4Rs only few people knows the difference with a sta cayman….and aesthetically is far far far from the 4C beauty!
Great observations...thanks for sharing and for watching! I don't tend to upgrade my cars very much, but now that I've held onto my Lotus Elise for 10 years, I'm thinking it might be fun to make some upgrades.
Yes. A 4C is definitely what you should look to, when you want to.upgrade from a GT4.
😂 Thanks for watching...I guess😉
Surprised the little 4C gave more engagement in various aspects
@@jasondoe5741 hey thanks for watching. That's one of the reasons I like doing these videos and talking to different people, you never know what might come up
Did your surgeon use the anterior or posterior approach?
Mine was a flavor of anterior called ABMS, why?
Why is part of your xray blurred out??😂
Over packed mine on a recent NY to Tx and back trip. I knew better. Normally i don’t even bring clothes on the trip because i have them on either end lol
Haha, yeah, those tiny trunks are not meant for anything except a weekend getaway, maybe! 😎
My surgery in Mexico, went smoothly and painlessly. I was barely able to recall a few of the associated noises, but at the time they were not scary or alarming. My surgeon and his team in Monterey were amazing, and I was walking from my hotel room to breakfast the next day with my walker and limited assistance, following a second day in the hospital. I am six weeks in now, and yesterday I did an oil change and car wash of my vehicle without pain or incident. I have to remind myself of the surgery, as often I move and do all the things I did before the surgery, only now without the direct hip pain. Dr Alejandro Flores, and his team we’re amazing on all levels
@@beemer1111 thanks for watching. That's a cool story and sounds like a great outcome for you. Do you mind telling me a little bit about why you chose to have the surgery done in Mexico etc? I always find that interesting
I’m due to have hip replacement around mid February 2025. It will be a posterior operation. After watching your video I am very concerned about the immobility of your operated leg and the level of pain level that you can experienced. Nobody mentioned any of these issues in any of the videos that previously watched. I’m also very concerned about the fever and swelling which I will address with my surgeon. I’m very curious if you had a posterior or an anterior operation. It would be helpful to know as each one has different issues post surgery.
Thanks for watching. I'm sorry watching my day of surgery raised some concerns. Not everybody's experience is the same, but many of us have similar experiences the day of surgery and the first week post-op. So I guess I'm glad that this provided information that nobody else had. Thankfully, even though that first week can be rough, things improve rapidly after that. If you watch a few more of my Hip Vlogs, I bet that will do a lot to alleviate your concerns. I wish you all the best!
Thank you very much for your quick reply. I did enjoy your videos and I learned a lot even though some things raised concerns, but could you still let me know if you had an anterior or posterior operation? Thanks.
You're welcome. Sorry, I forgot to answer about approach. Mine was a flavor of Anterior called Anterior Based Muscle Sparing (ABMS), but there are many, many variations to all the approaches and, as long as your surgeon is employing modern, muscle-sparing techniques, the outcomes are all similarly good from what I understand. Happy Healing!
I had posterior as well and my pain levels were much like this video. This has been spot on so far. I had pain, fever, delirium, nausea etc. be prepared and it may not be as bad.
I needed to see this today as I had emergency hip replacement surgery, this Monday due to a fall 😢. I came home the next day but my leg is like a dead weight and was getting really worried. As an active and considered young by the surgeon at 56 your video has given me hope and encouragement. Thank you.❤️
You are very welcome. I am so glad that you found it helpful. Hopefully you will find many of my other hip vlogs helful as well. Happy Healing! 😺
They gave me a spinal anesthetic despite my severe anxiety about it. In hindsight I should have insisted on general. I 'recovered' lying there for TEN HOURS with no feeling below my waist, no control over my bladder or bowels and in abject terror that I might be paralyzed. My advice, if you feel uncomfortable about a spinal / epidural, trust your instinct and refuse. I should have .
So sorry you suffered through that. Hope you are doing well now. Thanks for watching.
I’m sorry you had that experience, I had spinal for both hips and could move by the time I was in recovery. Spinal is safer compared to GA especially for older people.
That is my understanding as well.
Maybe Steve was using hyperbole, exaggerating the amount of area shaved for comedic purposes?
Yeah, I'm guessing a lot of what he said was scripted for comedic purposes. It was entertaining and a good opty to discuss some aspects of THR. Thanks for watching!
I waited nearly 2 years due to the public health system waiting list. I was in utter pain and limped as well. I still looked after my horses. But no riding for the last 12 months. As soon as I woke up from the surgery I was pain free. I had some pain around the scar but that was managed with low level pain killers. Personally I felt like I had my life back. I am 7 months post op, pain free and agile and mobile. I swim and ride again better than ever. And my energy is back. It has been the most positive experience. But then again that was my expectation, my focus.
Thanks for watching and for sharing. What public health system are you under if I may ask? Very glad to hear you are doing so well and back to the things you love.
@Life411 I live in Australia. At the time we were in Queensland.
I had my right hip replaced at 56, but many years after i really needed the operation. I was fit, slim and healthy otherwise. It was excruciating for weeks as I was cut sideways through my buttock. Never ever again! I had to basically dope myself up so I slept all the time. I got up, did my exercises, ate very little and slept a lot. I was unable to sit due to the agony of the hip replacement thrusting through the incision when i tried to sit down. Every doctor who saw this was horrified! It took well over a year for my hip and leg to come right and I am totally dreading getting my left hip done!
Wow, sorry you had such a bad experience. How long ago was that? Did you just end up with a really bad surgeon, or? What will you do differently with your left hip?
@@Life411 The surgeon was extremely arrogant and refused to discuss my surgery or the reason he cut me where he did. Because I cannot afford to have surgery privately ( 40K plus) I had surgery on the Public Health system and cannot choose who does my next hip. I may have to move to another region to get a different surgeon but the hip is still bearable at this stage.
Well, mine is on the 28th under a vengeful company that laid me off with rough benefits.
Sorry to hear, hope all goes well with the surgery, insurance and recovery. Thanks for watching!
It was total nightmare, glad it’s over, grateful or exist ( mine was due trauma/ accident) si it was not an option
Ugh, sorry it was so rough for you. Hopefully things are better now.
Had the op on Dec 23rd 2024, was limping to the klinik in severe pain on the day of surgery. My surgeon preferres to use full anasthesia. Woke up after the op without pain, obviously still under the effect of narcotics. About 3hrs after op the physio came into the room and I took the first steeps - and what a relieve. The only pain I had was a tingling and stabbing sensation around the incision. There are no same day hip replacements done here where I live (Switzerland), so I was discharged from the clinik on Thursday 26. Without real pain, certainly compared to before the op. Have to use cruches for four weeks and do simple exercises to activate the musculature around the hip and to walk. So far improving steadily. I was bone on bone. In a few month the other side (right) will have to be done. Not on the same level of pain there yet, but basically no cartillage left. So same place, same surgeon, same procedure. Oh, didn't need to shave and got ceramic on poly.
Thanks for watching and for sharing. It's always interesting to hear how things differ in other countries. Curious, are the crutches the traditional armpit crutches, or forearm crutches? Hope all continues to progress well and good luck with your second THR in a few months. I'll be curious if that experience is different as I often hear.
@@Life411 armpit cruches is something I have never seen or used here. Always the other kind.
Hi, sorry didn't get to watch in real time.
How were your last days before surgery?
I was bone on bone and I immediately felt better. I was given morphine as soon as I came round, which sorted out the pain. Strong tablets after then good to go. I was never asked what I wanted and I won't find out what I have until next month when I visit the surgeon again.😊
Thanks for watching. Were you on during the Instant Premiere? Also, thanks for sharing that about bone-on-bone...confirms what I've been told by my surgeon and others.
What kind of anesthesia did you recieeve?
Spinal Block with Propofol. This short video goes into more detail if you're interested. th-cam.com/video/rSbJjmaSSzo/w-d-xo.html

Thank you so much for this first week survival video. I'm due to have my R hip replaced in about a month and I'm dreading it ! I thought having a total knee was bad but i really think this is going to be soooo tough and restrictive. Hope you're recovering well now and thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome! From what I've heard, hip replacement is an easier recovery than knee replacement, so hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised. I'm doing great now at two years post-op, thanks. Wish you all the best in your hip journey!
I'm 62, just had right side thr on Jan 10th, 2025. Posterior. For me at 10 days after, the next day was the worse one, but nothing really bad tbh. Off all pain meds after a few days. I either had a great surgeon or I got lucky lol... Hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised. Just follow the PT and that really helps. Good luck to you.
Nice video 👍 very informative. New subscriber here.
Thanks for the sub! Really excited about building more content like this.
Nice! And no music! Thanks.
@@yomama5785 thanks for watching
For some like me, the pain is not obviously related to a bad hip. I felt like I had a groin pull which delayed my diagnosis for six months!
I think when you see your consultant you have to be a bit intensive on how bad things are. The first consultant I saw 2 years ago said I just needed to take more pills. Two years later and I'm bone on bone in a great deal of pain. Thnkfully all behind me now and getting better every day!
Just like us hippies, medical professionals are unique individuals, so you're right, we need to be our own best advocates. Sometimes you get lucky and get a surgeon whose philosophy matches your unique situation and sometimes it requires persistence, second opinions, etc. My surgeon wasn't convinced by the xrays, but when he saw the MRI he agreed with me that I needed a THR. Glad things are progressing nicely in your recovery.
Im 3 for 3...hmmmmm
sounds like you're trying to decide whether it's time for surgery. Did this help in sorting it out?
Reading this in preparation for my op next week . Thank you!
@@paulab5127you are very welcome. Hope your surgery goes smoothly next week 😸
@paulab5127, make sure you take all meds they send you. Put a pillow between legs at any point, getting in and out of bed and to sleep. Use the walker (very important). I know many people say no recliner, but it's helped me so much. I get up every hour, walk around, and take my meds every 3 hours.
I had my anterior thr last week, spent 3 nights in hospital, told to use crutches for 4 weeks, then one crutch for 2 weeks, not drive for 6 weeks until follow up with surgeon. The joint feels great, but of course, the groin and muscles are aching. I'm still using ice and pain meds and just walking around the house for now. I am 70, so that may be why my journey sounds longer than most I've watched on youtube. I'm also in Australia, and they don't do one day surgery and then send you home. It's also under general anaesthetic, which takes longer to recover from.
Thanks for sharing. Our journeys are all going to be different and I'm sure the things you mention are factors. Re: the groin pain, if that remains for more than 10 days, you might want to talk to your surgeon about a prescription NSAID like Meloxicam because sometimes that's referred pain from an inflamed nerve. That was what my groin pain was and I resumed Meloxicam for two weeks post-op and then it went away for good. Best wishes in your recovery and look forward to further updates.
@Life411 thanks for that. I'm day 6, and the groin hurt long before the op. I'm sure you're right about inflamed nerves.
I’m 8 weeks out and still having trouble sleeping I can only sleep on my back without pain and I’m a side sleeper. Still have some burning but mostly pain free when I’m up and about. I think it does take longer than I expected.
Sorry you're having trouble sleeping. I don't know if this will help, but these are some sleeping tips I used both pre- and post-op my THR. SLEEPING TIPS AND STRATEGIES (PRE- or POST-OP) 1) Avoid or minimize pain meds during the day so they are more effective at night 2) Plan activities that may cause pain for the early part of the day. Start preparing for a good night’s sleep in the late afternoon by discontinuing activities that might make it worse. And begin taking pain meds to reduce pain before bedtime. 3) Take an Over-the-counter (OTC) sleep aid (with ingredients like Diphenhydramine or Doxylamine Succinate). Magnesium, Melatonin and similar things did not help me sleep. 4)Have a second dose of pain killers and sleep aids and water at your bedside. 5) This video talks through how I managed pain in order to get enough sleep to function pre-op, but I did essentially the same post-op. th-cam.com/video/x7PMDbppJHE/w-d-xo.html
December 30th. 2024. 7. Am. Today is Friday. I'm walking and doing my therapy s. Hawaiian boy. Aloha Joe ❤
Aloha Joe! Thanks for checking in. Sounds like things are progressing well. If you found my videos helpful, I hope you will share them with others. It might surprise you to learn that over 1,000 hip replacements are performed every day in the U.S. alone and I'd like to reach and help as many of these folks as possible. Happy healing! Aloha, Pete
Thanks for sharing this information. It does explain the process well.
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve noticed that my Emira does tram line a bit, more than my 911. I’ve got the touring setup with Goodyears- don’t know if my alignment is a bit off from factory, or if that’s just how they are.
@@Rex_Racer interesting. Hard to know. These cars are hand built despite all the marketing. I had some body fit panel issues when I took delivery. I checked four other cars on the lot and it was a complete mishmash. Some had the same problem, some the opposite problem, some no problem at all. So I guess it's possible One car may experience tram lining while another doesn't. Or perhaps it's partially the difference between sport and Turing suspension.... Mine is sport and absolutely no tram lining that I can detect.
Thanks for your help and advice!
My pleasure! Did you know over 1,000 hip replacements are performed in the U.S. every single day? Thanks in advance for your help spreading the word...I hope to help as many of them as possible! Pete
Hi, I am amazed that you could do so much before your replacement! I was in constant pain and was having difficulty just walking around. After I woke from surgery the surgeon came to see me and I asked what shape my old hip was in. "Not good" was all he said. I think that was bone on bone. I am amazed at how quickly I am recovering. Three weeks on Monday. I then get to see a physio. The dressing is off and the wound is healing well. Apparently, no doctors in our area do anterior incisions so I took what was available. I have a huge scar, about the size of my outstretched hand, on the top of the outside of my left hip. It hurt really bad for a few days but the medication got on top of it and now all is great. Have a great New Year. Regards, Doug
Hi Doug, Thanks for the update...glad you are doing well. I think my incision is of similar length...about 5 inches or more if I remember correctly. I think we all handle pain differently and bad hips can cause all sorts of different pain. Hard to compare, but I think I can tolerate a lot of pain and discomfort during the day so long as I can manage it well enough to get enough sleep at night to function the next day. So once I knew I was getting a replacement, that's how I managed it. Hope you have a great New Year too! Pete
13 days into my new right hip. Still need a right hip replacement.
How far apart will you get your hip replacements?
Have you had a hip replacement?
