What was your daily/ total mileage for this trip? Beautiful country!
Thanks for the video! Exploring this area is on my list for 2025…it was nice to get a see a preview! I’ve mostly day hiked in ONP, looking forward to getting further in this summer!
Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you have a great trip this summer.
Be careful & watch ⌚ out for creeptoids 😊
Beautiful Country 💟😊
It really is!
Last year a friend told me about the Wonderland Trail. We put in for the lottery. Your WT videos were the first ones I watched. I was immediately enamored. We won’t a lottery spot!!! Hiked the WT in August 2024. Now we want to go back and do the Northern Loop and I found YOUR video! So happy. Hope you never stop posting. You inspire me.😊
That’s awesome! Northern Loop is beautiful. Especially Windy Gap. I actually hiked it again last summer and added the mother mountain loop. I have a video on it that will go live in a few weeks if you want to check it out. I didn’t luck out with the weather on the last trip, but maybe I will have to give it another go!
Thanks for watching! Do you have a favorite trail in the Olympics? Share them in the comments.
Nice little taste of summer! All your talk of heat is a good reminder to enjoy our cool winter days.
I know, I miss summer, but not those hot days!
It's nice to go hiking in Olympic National Forest with you again. The scenery was beautiful. Thanks!🌲
Thanks! :)
I really missed your videos also! Loved the butterfly shot! ✌
Thank you for being here and watching!
Always good to see you on the trails! Looked like a wonderful trip in such a beautiful area. You always do an amazing job of showcasing the beauty of Washington!
It was! I appreciate your kind words. Washington is such a beautiful state.
Great to see a new video from you. Didn’t realise how much I am missing wild flowers. I love the ridge walk from Marmot down toward Tubal Cain. Lots of pine trees west of Marmot that always make me chuckle. I want to try the off trail route between Silver Lake and Tubal Cain. Also, try My Townsend on a clear day. Amazing views. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I met 2 hikers doing the off-trail route between Silver Lake and Tubal Cain. I didn’t even know that was an option. Makes me want to go back plus Townsend on a clear day!
I enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing. Hope to do wonderland this summer or fall
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you have a wonderful time on the WT!
Kara do they collect your passport and if so why? How is cell service and net?
I think they did collect passports. Must be a customs thing. Sorry, cannot 100% remember. Don’t count on cell service. If you have a SIM card you could get cell while in South America. WiFi onboard was overall good. I could email (no attachments) and use WhatsApp. I didn’t try streaming anything. Since this was recorded the ship (Roald Amundsen) has starlink now.
What's the custom map you got? Looking to do the North Coast Trail this year.
The maps are “Custom Correct” think REI carries them. You will want to check out South Olympic coast map for this route. They also have another map set for the North. Also, Seattle public library has them if you live in that area.
@@karahikes Thank you! I’ll definitely check them out. I really appreciate your videos, they’re always packed with amazing shots and incredibly informative!
@@nw_trekker Glad to hear you find it helpful. Hope you have a great trip!
I talked to a BLM guy at Marlette in 2019. He told me there are seven black bears on the mountain there. I often see bear and mountain lion tracks on snow valley peak. Mule Deer on top during the summer to get out of the heat. I like your style. you showed off 170 miles of trail when most people record a walking selfie the whole time. I was glad to see that you included sections of trail that many hikers don't. Especially washoe valley.
It's been years since I was there. Brings back so many memories. Thank you so much for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
The first year I went to flpjack lake, the trailhead parking was where the trail intersection is now.
Wow, what a change!
Stunning!!!
Yes!!!
That is a spectacular area for sure. Not sure I have ever seen water that still. Great reflections!
Hi Kara. We saw you on the wonderland trail in August. That was crazy because your earlier video on the WT inspired me to do the trail. When are you planning to post your most recent WT video?
Hi! I hope your trip went well. It was nice chatting with you and your friends at Mystic Lake. I plan to share my Rainier video sometime next month. I've been procrastinating editing!
The hike is pretty. Lake not so much. But overall quite pretty and peaceful 🎉
Yes. Golden larches are an extra bonus.
no outfit for mans
I Les a group of backpackers into the area many years ago. We hiked from Snoqualmie Pass on the PCT across Kendall Karwalk above Spectale Lake and then dropped down to camp there. We completed our trip at Pete’s Lake. It was a great hike.
Sounds like a great trip!
The wildflowers in the burned area are called fire weed.
Great video - thanks for sharing! Appreciated a woman's perspective!
Great video, looking forward to doing this trip tomorrow 😊
Have fun!
Hi, Kara. My name’s Chris. I came across your channel a couple weeks ago when searching for videos about The Wonderland Trail which I’m excited to backpack next summer. I have greatly enjoyed watching your videos, and I hadn’t considered backpacking/hiking other trails in WA until I watched your videos. Wow! Yes! “Stunning!” The Tahoe area is beautiful as well. I live close to Tahoe and hike or mountain bike there as much as I can. Desolation has also been next on my “to backpack” list for a little over a month, and I’m excited to do that hopefully in the next few weeks! I had already planned on spending most of my 2025 summer adventure trip (Teacher here) in WA, BC, & AB (Whistler & Banff) and would greatly appreciate hearing what your top recommended WA day-hike and backpacking routes are so I could add them to my list, even if you haven’t posted videos about those places. I am also interested in knowing what resources you use to help guide your day-hike and backpacking trail choices. If it would be easier to format a response in an email instead of in your comments section, that’s fine with me. Whatever suits your fancy. If you’d like, you may email me at the address I have listed on my channel. (Just as a heads-up though, TH-cam makes contact information visible only when one accesses that information via computer and not via smart phone). Thank you for your help, Kara. I admire your kind and humble demeanor. You’d be a lot of fun to hike with if you’d be up for some company on a day-hike!
Glad you enjoyed the videos! Washington has a fantastic and FREE resource I like to use for planning hikes. Washington Trail Association (www.wta.org)- descriptions, mileage/elevation gain/loss, and trip reports. You can also filter hikes by total mileage, elevation gain, and wilderness areas in WA. Also, the trip reports are fantastic and you can also filter trip reports by month/year - that way you get an idea of what conditions might possibly be like when you plan to go there. If you have access to any of Craig Ramano hiking books - those are great to reference and use for planning. As for favorite hikes in WA - that's a tough question to answer! ;) I do recommend midweek and early if possible to avoid crowds. I've listed some super popular trails, but they are beautiful. A few of my favorite day hikes in the North Cascades since it sounds like you might be in that area: Thornton Lakes and Trapper Peak, Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm and Hannegan Peak. Backpacks worth checking out where you can fill out your permit at the trailhead: White Pass Pilot Ridge Loop and Spider Gap Buck Creek Pass Loop. Backpacks that have a bit more red tape for permitting: Copper Ridge Loop (full loop still might be closed in 2025) and East Bank Trail (side trip to Desolation Peak).
Am curious what specifically your 6 day itinerary was and how you found it? (like which sites you had and if you thought the whole thing was pretty doable in 6 days, I know most people take 7-10)
The road is one of the worst I have ever driven to get to the trailhead. Broke exhaust studs on my truck.
Yeah, it’s pretty terrible. Somehow I misremembered the road conditions and drove my sedan (parked a few miles short of the trailhead). Do not recommend - stressful drive. Def need a trail car for this.
Lived im Chelan since 1955. The trip described here is a wonderful hike. NO WAY I attempt this solo.
Thanks Kara will have to check it out
Cool video, thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
cool video. Thank you
Hey Kara, love your videos. Have inspired me to get back into hiking and hopefully some backpacking/overnighters. Question... what doe your kitchen kit look like? Stove/pot/etc? And do you pack a bear cannister? I live in Washington St too.
That’s great! My camp kitchen depends on the trip. For most summer backpacks I tend to go stoveless and will cold soak. Some overnights I still bring a stove and then spring/fall I always bring a stove. Hot coffee and hot dinners ate nice :) The stove I use is the MSR pocket rocket and I use there mini solo cook pot. I have a separate light weight coffee cup I picked up for cheap from Sierra trading post years ago. I use the 450v bear can for food storage. Most hikes I go on it’s not required to have a bear can, but it’s peace of mind knowing I am storing my food properly.
@@karahikes Awesome! Thank you! Happy hiking!
Interesting to note how the former reservoir bottom has brushed over except for the active river channel. A few more decades and it will transition to valley bottom forest, as it was before the dam was built.
Thanks for bringin us along. Our neck-o-the-woods is kinda beautiful, isn't it?
Sure is! :)
Awesome journey! Thanks for taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it!
0:42 Looks like someone painted a picture and hung it up for you to see.. breathtaking!
Treated to orange orbs out there? Adams, Indian Heaven?
I missed where you set up camp on day 9. Somewhere before "the bench"?
Yes, really big flat spot before the bench. I cannot remember how far it was.
It’s so cool seeing this. I’ve hiked little portions of this.
Nice!
Glad you found it helpful! Happy trails :)
Love the little creeks and mountain tops.
I enjoyed all the greenery and ferns.
Thank you for these videos. I just hiked a 100 mile section from White Pass to Crest Camp and your videos helped me replan my mileage per day. There was no way I could have averaged 20 miles a day through Goat Rocks. Cheers!
Kara you r a total babe ❤
You would purposefully adventure to a creek named after Mosquitoes? BRAVE!
Lol!
That's some pretty good mileage per day.. trooper!
