Our daughter, grandson, and myself took the boat from the resort to the Desolation trailhead two summers ago to hike up to the top of Desolation Mountain. Unfortunately, we ran out of energy near the tree line and turned back. I have a fond memory of this lookout having read Jack Kerouac's Dharma Bums book in which he worked as a lookout at Desolation back in the early 1950s.
Great trip Kara! Beautiful views along the trail and awesome views from the Lookout! We did the hike up to the Lookout a few years ago… it sure is a steep one! You had great weather… nice to enjoy the views on the way down. Fun that you saw a few deer too! 🩷💕👍👍
You said 'bear scat' in the cutest way I have ever heard :P One interesting thing about this trails are above you in the mountains are the famous Pacific Crest Trail hikers looking down upon you. They are all thirsty looking at those lakes and postholing through snow while you see them all close and personal! Thanks Kara!
