    Dear Linda...Per chance do you have a video of the La Crosse Oktoberfest Maple Leaf Parade for the year when Barb Mullally won Miss Wisconsin?...she would have won Miss Oktoberfest in the autumn of 1983....I was the first runner up...I am hoping that somebody has a video of the parade in 1983....Also, during the parade, I was in two tv commercials for Kemps....thanks, Linda...

    Hi Linda, just got word from Enlightened Equipment that they dont do down refills anymore, so im on my own. Thanks for the upload! How much down did you use?

  • @numbereightyseven
    @numbereightyseven 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've added down a few times. First, I broke through the front-to-back baffles, if the bag had them. (most do). That's easy to do without any unstitching or cutting. And I prefer it that way anyway, it helps me modulate the bag's warmth on any given night. Then, un pick one entire zip seam, opening up every baffle. I hung the bag up on a clothes drying rack, with lots of clothes pegs, holes at the top of course. I added down, usually 200 to 400 grammes. I wasn't making up for lost loft; I was making the bags warmer. If it was a much older bag, I'd have emptied all the down out, into a very large box or plastic bag. Then I'd un-clump it. Anyway, after filling each baffle with down, so that they were filled up to the same level, then I'd peg them closed, and sew the seam length and zip back together. I did all this in a small room, windows closed, hard flooring not carpet. If I did all movements slowly, not too much would fly around.

    Dear Linda, I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to express my deep admiration and gratitude for your insightful video on the Superior Hiking Trail. It was not only incredibly informative but also incredibly inspiring. A friend of mine is planning to undertake the same journey soon, and while I am thrilled for her adventurous spirit, I can't help but express some concerns as well. I find myself feeling anxious about her safety, both due to potential encounters with wildlife and the risk of unwanted attention as a solo traveler. Given your experience and wisdom gained from your own journey, I was hoping you might have some advice or recommendations. Any tips on ensuring her safety, what equipment she should prioritize, or even any helpful contacts or networks she could reach out to for support would be deeply appreciated. Again, thank you for sharing your own journey with us and for any advice you could provide. I look forward to hearing your insights. Best regards,

    Im about to buy a cheap camping quilt with about 650 fill and then buy a pound of down and fill it more. This way i will spend about 1/5 of the money i would otherwise spend. I want this thing to be able to comfortably withstand 0°F or less. Im a winter camper backpacker so i want it to be lightweight and warm. Also im going to get goose down.

    Hi Linda. I've reduced my IRNP backpack weight to under 30lbs with 6 days of food by upgrading to a lighter ZPacks Ultra backpack and a Nemo Hornet 2P tent, Nemo Tensor air mattress, and a ZPacks sleeping bag. I've been to IRNP once per year since 2018. Last year was the first time hiking the Ishpeming Trail from Malone Bay Campground to South Desor Lake Campground.The Voyageur ferry boat dropped me off at Malone Bay. This year I plan on taking a water taxi to Duncan Narrows, and hiking the far east end of the Greenstone and then down to Lane Cove Campground, as that's the only main trail that I haven't been on yet. Day 2 will be from Lane Cove to Daisy Farm or Moskey Basin. I haven't backpacked the Minong Ridge Trail since 2018, so I would like to tackle that again this year.

    Great video- enjoyed your commentary! It was enjoyable to see your trip and all the little things you encountered. :) Thank you for pointing out the need to keep the trail clean, and to pack out garbage! I always bring a chair with me! It is well worth the added weight. My favorite bit is being able to take a rest anywhere I want. If I find a pretty spot for lunch then I can sit down, enjoy the view and not worry about disturbing the area. It also gives me a place to set things down when packing up camp and the ground is wet. So it's nice to see someone else enjoys the "chair-life." ;)

    I got rid of that problem a long time ago but still have the gray hair from it. lol. I hammock camp so trees are always around. They furnish the fuel I need in downed , dried sticks and twigs. I use a Firebox Nano Gen 2 Titanium wood burner. For a back up heat source I take 10 oz of alcohol to use in a Evernew titanium burner which can be used inside the Firebox Nano. I haven't ran out of fuel and can have a fire as long as I want or need it. Plus I don't have to carry an empty fuel canister.

  • @EdwardVarner
    @EdwardVarner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for doing the math! I use an alcohol stove which I love however, some places don't allow them. If you were to prime your pot by placing it on a rock near the fire first you may get 50-100% more burns out of it JIC you needed to really sip fuel or wanted to bring the 4oz can. Just a thought. Thanks again.

      Hi Amanda, It's a great hike to do yourself. Are you backpacking or hiking? If BP, you need to get reservations online. There is only one "group" allowed per campsite so that means if you are solo you will have the site to yourself. Cell service varies from site to site. Do you have a route in mind? I'm not sure if that answers your questions or not. There's a great group facebook.com/groups/1449602861877896

    • @lindahikes2760
      @lindahikes2760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chicken is a packet (kind of like Tuna packets come in) so those stay fresh. An onion will stay fresh for days and the pepper if it's not too hot out. Sometimes I bring the fajitas in and eat them on the first night on the trail.

I have the Atmos 65, and it has been by far the most comfortable pack I've ever had. An easy cornbread (Hoe cake, Johnny cake) is 2 parts corn meal + 1 part instant "Just add water" pancake mix, salt, + enough water for a thick batter. Then cook like a pancake. The instant pancake mix self rises and the wheat gluten is the binder for the corn meal.
