    Great video, enjoy people that hike the Black Hills. My wife and I were out there that same week. We were going to do a 45 mile 3 day backpacking trip from Dalton Lake TH to Samelius TH. Never got past the first day. It had rained the night before and the Dalton Lake TH to S Boxelder Creek TH was all mud. Going downhill before crossing the highway, I slipped in the mud and twisted my neck trying to stay upright. A few minutes later the pain to even try and carry my pack started to hurt. We stopped for lunch, just past the road crossing near Nemo. We hit the S Box Elder Creek TH and I had to call it. The pain was intense and I could not even put my pack on. Took 4 days for the pain to go away. No permanent injury. Thanks again for your videos. Enjoy them very much.

      The trail from Boxelder to Pilot Knob was terrible for me ..it was like ice skating vs hiking because of the mud. (it rained that night before) I am glad you are feeling better. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for posting! Planning a trip for early August and your videos are helping us get a good sense of the trail.

      Good luck! I would say the place to "worry" about is from Elk Creek to Dalton Lake..there's no water once you get past Elk Creek. There's also limited stealth camping there because it's fairly steep since the elevation is high. Dalton Lake CG is listed as having drinkable water, but I couldn't find any. I filtered from the Lake. I showed in my video BullDog Gultch..that showed water but it may be dried up if there's no much rain. Have a blast. Let me know how it goes!

      According to the forest service map the water spigot is near campsite #6. I made a note to look there. I’m not holding my breath for anything other than stealth camping as I believe the motorcycle rally is taking place while we are hiking :/

      @@lindahikes2760 We completed our thru-hike! We started on August 3rd and finished on August 10th. We thought the hike was challenging (I've only been on a few 2 night trips and my hiking partner had never been backpacking), but we learned a lot and had great success. Thank you for posting your videos!

    Those biting bugs are Buffalo Gnats. Permethrin treatment works well against them. DEET is somewhat effective. Not sure how well more organic treatments do. Great video. Thank you. Doing the Centennial next year.

    Giving you a thumbs up for the smoked oysters, I love them. They don't seem to be too popular in general, but I love them and just ate a tin for Christmas with crackers.

      I don't know why more people don't take them backpacking. They are one of my favorites. Clams are good too!

    This was a nice video! Planning to thru-hike in September, but worried about camping spots because I use a hammock.

      I think you would be ok...but I honestly didn't pay much attention to that. There's a centennial Facebook page..have you tried posting there?

    I always have a bit of anxiety before I hit the trail. I had planned on doing this Centennial a couple of months ago. Fingers crossed, 2021 will be better!

    Awe, man. You have to share the trail with ATV’s? There’s not a single track option?

      The Boxelder to Deer Creek was the worst part...about 10 miles. There were other places it overlapped here and there but not terrible.

    What do you think a good amount of time to set aside for a hike from end to end?

    • @lindahikes2760
      @lindahikes2760  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On this portion I show dates of 6 days..but I took one day off. So five for this part. The southern part took five also. I did Bear Butte separately.. I averaged about 12 miles per day. So 10 days of backpacking plus Bear Butte plus any days off you would take.
