    I have a DVP-CX995V which I believe is very similar to the 985 plus the addition of a HDMI output (which I don’t use). I changed the belts in the rear (which I did once before successfully) but this time the player says CANNOT PLAY on every DVD. The only thing I can think of is that I messed up the ribbon cable that attaches the the laser drive unit, but it looks OK to me and I can see red light (I assume from the laser) when the disc spins. Any idea why I might be getting that error message on every disc?

      @@Mark-rw3kw If you're seeing the red laser, then it's working at least. I'd try cleaning the laser lens first. Use a Q-Tip and a little 91% isopropyl alcohol. @@terrylockwood9176 I tried cleaning the laser lens, first just vacuuming any dust from the area (didn't work) and then using Zeiss eyeglass cleaner on the laser lens. No help. As far as lube, I can tell that the laser assembly has some grease on it already, so I don't think that is the problem, especially since the problem occurred before I disassembled the laser unit to clean it. I also removed and reinserted the ribbon cable, and no help. I don't know what the problem is, but since I bought a used unit on Ebay (a DVP-CX777ES model) I will probably just junk the DVP-CX995V. I got a good deal on the 777ES since it had no remote (but my old remote works) and I bought it locally so didn't have to pay shipping. As I mentioned before, I had replaced the belts once before on my 995 without any problem, and I also replaced the belts on a Sony CD-only changer CDP-CX555ES without any problems.

I played with the potentiometer dial to set stitching slower however the speed lever starts abruptly with an already fast speed (even when using the slowest speed dial). Which one did you replace it with in order for the speed to drastically slow down from the factory's slowest speed?

    I happened to come across this video purely by accident. It blew me away as this instrument was one of my designs during my tenure at Sencore, along with the follow-on improvements to the Z-Meter. That high voltage power supply later moved to an extremely high dynamic range flyback converter that became the standard in their instruments for years. One thing that would soon disappear in Sencore's line though, and that was circuit boards taped by hand--they moved to a CAD system in 1986 or so.

    Hello, I have a D-VHS JVC 30000 have been using for years now, but I noticed some tapes were not playing well, the picture was fragmented so took it upstairs to clean the heads, I had done this before years ago with a piece of paper and rubbing alcohol and it worked last time I did that so felt confident doing it again. Earlier today I used a cloth similar to what you`re showing. Isopropyl microfiber lense cleaning cloth for Eye Glasses. I could not find a bottle of rubbing alcohol. First time I cleaned, I did it gently and more towards the top on the drum. I had thought the Drum WAS the head. I put it all back together and went to play a tape that previously would not play and it was playing perfectly, so I was all happy. I then popped in another tape that also would not play previous and nope, it was all fragmented and breaking up. So I put the 1st tape back in and sigh, it was the same. So I went back to cleaning again but watched where the tape was actually making contact and realized it was more towards the bottom ( Where the heads actually are) only I could feel a bit of friction and noticed part of the cloth was tearing away which I figured was not good since this is why they tell people not to use cotton swabs/Qtips. So I hooked it all back up and the 1st tape still would not play so I figured I must have damaged the heads. I then took it to garage and blew out with compressed air in case any small fibres had worked its way into somewhere they shoudnt be and still not working. So I was ready to give up and look for another unit, but fast forwarded to about half way through the tape and then put it on fast play where its like 3-5x the speed but you can follow the picture along and the picture was clear. I assumed because the heads are moving faster this is why you can see the picture okay, but also assumed once I pushed play that it would not work again, but it actually was working again. I rewound the tape all the way and started from the beginning and its working perfectly? Did I get lucky here? Any idea how it corrected itself? Is it a case of maybe the heads have been used so much already they might be wearing out? These DVHS machines are a bit pricey these days so just buying another is not something could easily consider right now.

    • @iRepairElectronics
      @iRepairElectronics ปีที่แล้ว

      so i would never recommend removing the head drum to clean the heads. you can also use a chamois cloth with the alcohol. i think you are luck to have a picture at this point. One thing thats wierd on JVC machine that happened to me in the past was a bad capacitor on the PG shifter part of the circuit. Now DO NOT go hunting this down unless the following symptom occurs. When you insert a tape it may play fine, eject the tape and re-insert it, then you get noise on top or bottom, re-insert again and the noise is either less or more severe. That was the cap in the PG shifter problem. if i ever find a JVC with that problem ill make a video on it. but is was only a few in a series of VHS machines made in the 90's. i have no idea if your DVHS is the same circuitry . my guess is probably NOT.

Going to throw out the Motley Crue DVHS tape that is corroded and hopefully will be trouble free from now on, at least I know where the heads actually are now and if I do attempt cleaning in the future will do the paper method again.

      It is a crossflow radiator, so the the water is always going to be hotter up the top on the side of the top hose and it cools down as it moves across and down through through the radiator. The bottom hose should be substantially cooler, because the radiator has performed its task.

    You should read the manual before posting a video like this, because you don't know anything about it 🤦

    How did you get the puller behind the cam gear hub? I have absolutely no space and I have the exact same puller by coincidence. I am currently cutting the cam gear hub off a little bit at a time because I have not had any luck pulling it or heating it. I tried heating first FYI. Your cam gear hub looked to have space behind it and I just find that highly curious compared to mine. Definitely looks exactly like the same cam gear hub I have.

      At 18:55 he explains how he wedged the prongs of this puller between the circumferential ribs in the hub itself, rather than going behind it.

      240,000 miles over 40 years is pretty decent service. In my experience they last a bit longer than timing chains. In any case, they don't 'suck' as claimed.

    I've been trying to find a real tutorial on how to use my 333A. I'm just a hobbyist, but a pretty serious hobbyist. Anyways, this is by far the most accurate and helpful video I have been able to find. Thank you!
