I love being out in the Landscape with my cameras and filters, so thought I would share it with whoever is watching, a few hints and tips on the way that may be of interest too.
If you have 5 minutes pop along to my website and have a look around.

Sometimes you have to Underexpose the SHOT, Landscape Photography
Sometimes I will underexpose a shot on purpose to retain a little colour in the sky but at the same time use an ND filter to give me a long exposure across the whole scene, have a watch and you will see what I mean.

I've got an EOS-R like yourself, and I've been lead to believe that the Canon sensors retain a lot of detail in the darks, better than other manufacturers, so allows you to shoot darker to retain the highlights then can bring back the darks in processing.

Hi Sebastian. You damaging one of your filters reminded me of a very expensive and heartbreaking experience we had. We don't have a lot of money but managed to save up for two lenses from MPB, a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for me, and a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 for my wife. So I'm using HER new lens to photograph a Devon cream tea (for microstock), using my camera on my tripod. Whilst I was arranging the scones the camera tipped forward on the tripod and smashed into the ground completely destroying her new lens! We'd only had THEM for 2 days 😫. So I returned my 70-200 to MPB for a refund, so that I could buy her a replacement 24-70. P1ssed off doesn't do it justice. That was 18 months ago and I still haven't got my 70-200 😅😅. Oh well, you live and you learn I guess 🙄😅

ps - I'm no expert however i'd say that every single pic you showed, to me at least, ONLY work because the subject is in the middle !!!
@@marktotnesthat’s what I thought 🤣🤣
And just one more thing. I've just watched episode 5 of National Geographic Photographer (highly recommended) and it featured the work of Krystle Wright who is a world class photographer. It showed one of her favourite pictures of a dust devil (basically a small tornado) and guess what was in the dead centre of the picture... A solitary tree surrounded by the dust devil. No rule of thirds, no Fibonacci composition and not even a leading line to be seen. Just dead centre. But what does she know, she's only a world class photographer for National Geographic FFS!!
@@basilboris great series that is mate, yep, great photographer she is, love her work 😃👍
Blimey, there are plenty of idiots around who have no idea what they are talking about. The 'rules' are to be taken as guidance and where necessary or appropriate, you have to take the photo to what suits what's in front of you or what you want to portray. As they say on Pirates of the Caribbean, 'more a set of guidelines and than actual rules'!
So true mate, social media can be full of plebs 😃👍
Mate I’m no expert I just like what I like. And I love your pics keep doing what you do and stuff these so called experts who know it all ..I didn’t think it was in the middle but if it was who gives a shit ..don’t let the trolls get you. You got a growing following now who love what you …there always be people finding fault and trying to drag you down f**k em and have they had there pics published in a magazine like you ..chin up mate looking forwards to next week vid .
@@ivorwindybottom77 ha ha cheers Ivor, cheers fella, appreciate that, some people can be right dicks 🤣🤣
@@SebastianBevanPhotography stuff the haters mate keep doing your thing
Without a shadow of a doubt you nailed the composition. The person who criticised you has no idea what they're talking about, they are just quoting the basic rules of composition because they know no better. Their criticism is more of a reflection on them as a person than as a photographer, and that's saying something! Just look at the work of Ansel Adams or Dan Winters and you'll see the rules being thrown out the window at every opportunity. So, we love your style, love your composition and love the creativity. Keep the videos coming 👍.
@@basilboris thank you so much my friend 🙏👍😃 videos will keep coming 🤣🤣👍😃

Glad it’s not just me cuz 🤣🤣👍😃
Blimey Seb where do you start. Right at the beginning when you said "make yourselves comfortable, make a cup of tea or poor yourself a beer". I was pouring my pint of Abbot ale just as you were saying that WOW. Ok seriously now ALL those images you showed were spot on, great comps, beautifully executed and yes BOTTOM THIRD , NOT BANG IN THE MIDDLE. Jesus Christ what's wrong with these so called experts. If we all followed the rules then half are images would look crap, but the experts can't see that. It's your image, your way of seeing things, and that's photography. Just because they went to college and studied photography dose not make them any better. Get out and experience it. Apart from that have a great week Seb and see you next week.

I love your images and haven’t thought twice as to why you put your subjects in the middle of the image. In my opinion, you shouldn’t have wasted your time giving this slug air time on your channel. You don’t need to explain to anyone why you do what you do. Keep moving forward.

@@anthonyross-fallon9624 cheers Anthony, you are so right mate 👍😃
Some times you want the simplicity of the subject and the middle of the frame is perfect. Why would you want to fill the side of the pic with uninteresting stuff just to meet a 'rule'? I really enjoyed your rant. It seems that when hiding behind a keyboard certain people forget any common sense or manners. In my humble opinion every one of the images that you shared is perfectly composed. I have never stood in front of a scene with a camera and fretted about the rule of thirds. It all depends on what you feel looks right and what feeling you want to convey thought the image. Rules can be helpful if you are struggling with an aspect of photography, but with experience, they are made to be bent or even totally ignored! One complaint - I now have an ear worm. th-cam.com/video/ln7Vn_WKkWU/w-d-xo.html 🤪
@@suerowlands1457 ah, cheers Sue, so true, I don’t even think about the composition rules anymore when I stand before a scene, great song 🤣😃👍
I just think you need to follow them as they clearly know what they are on about .......... @@SebastianBevanPhotography .. I'm always getting wound up by the keyboard warriors who think they know everything. If it pleases you, and gets you a cover shot it's a win win mate. I'm in it to please myselfand will use the rule of thirds or any of the other so called ""rules" if I think they'll work. The placement of the main subject at the bottom helps with a cover shot layout anyway. Loads of my shots are on the thirds, but centre is fine with me. I shoot 1:1 99% of the time, not because I only post to IG, it's because my eye sees in 1:1 and it pleases me .. Carry on sticking it were it suits you.
