How to use a Polarising filter, Landscape Photography
The Polarising filter for Landscape Photography is a must, I went so many years without one but not anymore, I don't know how I lived without it.
Especially now I am using the MAVEN filter system, it is so small and quick.

Get Motivated, Landscape Photography

Just get your camera gear, get into the car and go shoot, even if it's just a field close to home. I know what it is like, trying to get motivated sometimes is hard, especially after a day's work. Put the comfy couch and cold beer on hold for a couple hours, you won't regret going out with the camera. A last-minute dash to a local field hoping to get a nice warm sunset was the plan but as alway...

How often do you use a Neutral Density Filter and a Polarising Filter, if you are me that is quite often, well, not any more because MAVEN filters have combined the two filters to make what is called "ND DARK CPL's". I cannot believe this hasn't been made before, less to carry and less chance of vignetting. Only a quick trip out because as of late, it started raining. Affiliate link for MAVEN f...

Nice informative vlog Seb, interesting tip about checking the histogram to see if the polorisor is taking effect. Great location and loved the final images
Cheers Jim, not a bad spot is it, little gem, cheers fella
Another cool video to learn from Seb - nearly 1000 !
Cheers mate, I know, crazy init, nearly there 😲😲😲
Very informative mate, always learning.... The value of the polariser is just so apparent.
Cheers Scotty, great bit of kit init 😃👍
Really nice seb I normally go Shaugh prior around the corner will check out dewerstone next time
Cheers Ivor, it’s well worth a look, crackin little spot
@@SebastianBevanPhotography try to get around there next week…finally got to veniford brook thanks for your help in finding it
@@ivorwindybottom77 how did you get on, not bad is it.
@@SebastianBevanPhotography brilliant got the shot I wanted but almost walked past it lol
Always learning off you Seb. I didn't think about using the histogram to check the CPL amount. I usually shoot open landscape, so go off the colour of the sky. Time to shoot some moving water and use the histogram 👍
Ah cheers Pete, if you are a windows wearer like me 😂 it helps
Once you get out it gets better. That looked like a barley field you were standing in, rather than grass, although barley is a type of grass. Once they have their seed heads in, barley looks amazing with a breeze. You get waves just like on the ocean.
Maybe I’m just getting old mate 🤣🤣 hoping to get a nice warm sunset when the seed heads pop out
Another top tip, thanks Seb!
Cheers Pete, as always I’m late to the party but this tool is so good, I just wish Lightroom had it, cheers mate
Nice shots mate ,,your right I need to shake my ass been so lazy this year I blame the rain 😂😂..might try veniford brook again this week take my wellies this time .

@@SebastianBevanPhotography 😂😂😂thank you mate
That was brill Seb, yes just getting out really drives the motivation, even a simple field can make some dramatic images especially when you had the right light. Have a great week and see you probably on Saturday

@@SebastianBevanPhotography PS mentioned you in my latest one right at the end 😁😁
Motivation is hard to keep up but once you get your camera out, I find it hard to stop taking photos. A couple of years ago I started taking a picture of a tree once a month, so if towards the end of the month you hadn't taken it I had to get my camera out and go shoot it. I then found I got excited again and took loads of pics. Been doing that for a couple of years now.
Good shout Pete, likin that 😃👍

personally I like those Maven ND filters, No color cast.
Best I’ve used I reckon, very happy with them 😃👍
great vlog as always Seb the only thing i can see with a circular grad is you can't utter where it blends but you have to alter your composition instead.
Yep, completely agree with you Richard, I’ve just got a third and a half grad hoping one of them will do the job at the time , failing that 2 exposures it is 🤣🤣 cheers mate 👍

As always a great vlog
Cheers John, hoping to get back there asap as it should be covered in Bluebells
"Hasn't been made before"? Dark CPLs have been around for at least 7 years.
Even better is the Haida 3-7 variable ND plus CPL. Been using one for over a year now
Cool, any colour cast or banding
I have a K&F Concept 3-stop+CPL. Brilliant product and I find it's just the right level of attenuation for waterfalls and seascapes. Lets me use 0.5 - 1.0 secs and cuts out the reflections.
Hi ya Terrel, they are so good arnt they, I’m well impressed and as always I’m late to the party, I thought it was a new thing 🤣🤣
@@SebastianBevanPhotography Well, I've not seen a 6-stop one before. Could be tempted to pick one up. I shoot ultra-wide a lot, so it's the reduced vignetting that I find really handy.
@@TarrelScot ah right, The MAVEN filters do a 3,6 and a 10, going to treat myself to the 10 at some point, like you say, brilliant if you shoot wide , no vignetting
Cash is king and always will be. Great pics and hopefully it has stopped raining now for you!
So true Pete, give me the cash any day, yep the suns out mate 😃👍
Brilliant Seb, great filter system you've got there, well proved the worth, lovely images to Seb.
Cheers Jim, apparently other filter systems have done this before but as always I’m late to the party 🤣🤣

The trials and tribulations of the lone landscape photographer. Weather and parking, that is so me. 😊. Thanks for that great tip about watching the shutter speed when adjusting the polariser in AP. Never thought about that before but so obvious.
Cheers Alan, weather and parking the two pains in my arse 🤣🤣
Yes good tip on using exposure reading to see the effect of the CPL. I’m new to electronic viewfinders and struggling although I like all the info you can bring up like the histogram.
It’s obvious you’re loving the Maven filters Seb and they certainly suit your genre of photography. I’m finding the optical quality is excellent with no noticeable colourcast and the new LPL is fantastic. Nisi introduced the combined CPL+ND 2 years ago, Kase launched theirs nearly a year ago so Maven have followed suit. The Maven colour coding attracted me on Wave 1 Kickstarter but by the time they arrived Kase bought out the Revolution system with colours. It’s a very competitive market which is great for the photographers. Btw, I noticed you’re carrying all the filters as a large stack. Nearly all my standard NDs and CPL Mavens are redundant now and are basically spares. I just carry the LPL, 3 and 6 Dark CPLs, 4 stop and 10 stop with front and back caps.
No way, am I that far behind, I thought the DARK CPLs were a new thing, shows how much I pay attention 🤣 yep, I’m well impressed with these filters Chris, I had a play with the graduated ND filters last week , they are impressive 😃😃
Good to get out, but the weather has not been great! I have a Nisi ND6 with CPL, but not had much chance to use it recently.
No way, I thought MAVEN were the first to bring out the ND with the CPL, yep the weather has been horrid
❤❤ i need one now

Only a matter of time Panda 🤣🤣
Nothing like checking your calculations time and time again. As my mate, who's a carpenter says, 'measure twice and cut once'. Best to get it right 1st time around.

Thanks again Seb, I had mine set to C2 but what I didn't have set, and have updates my C2 now, was the 2 sec timer. I mainly shoot handheld and had to keep the button pressed for the 3 shots. With the timer, even handled, it just feels more stable.
Ideal, Cheers for watching Pete 😃👍
Are you sure you need to do noise reduction before HDR? My understanding is that DNG is equivalent to RAW, except it is an Adobe RAW file rather than a camera specific raw file. And that all RAW processing options are available on DNG just as they are on the camera-specific RAW files.
In my version of LRC I can not apply noise reduction to a HDR.dng file, the little box says “Denoise is not currently compatible with this photo format”. So fingers crossed we will be able to in the future 😃👍
@@SebastianBevanPhotography oh. I realize now you were referring to the newest AI version of Denoise that Adobe introduced. I’ll have to test on my setup to see if I have the same experience. I always copy RAW files to DNG when I import and have been able to use the new Denoise on them. However, perhaps this does not work as you suggest after doing an HDR process on them first. If so, it is because of the HDR processing rather than the fact that it is DNG. I will test on an HDR image and then let you know what I find out. Thanks!
@@apeel2008 sorry chap, my mistake, I should have said AI Denoise, let me know how you get on 😃👍
@@SebastianBevanPhotography OK. I just confirmed that you CAN use AI Denoise on DNG files, even if they have been processed. However, if a new DNG file is created as a result of an HDR Merge (or a Pano Merge), then you can no longer use the AI Denoise. So Sebastian was correct and I just learned something new! Actually, I learned 2 new things. 1) about the AI Denoise limitation and (2) 1st time seeing Sebastian's channel (now subscribed!)
