Some gems on this list. The Warmth of Other Suns is SO great. One of my all-time faves. I learned so much. You convinced me to add The Reformatory to my TBR. Demon's Dream, whew, lol. 700+ pages and I needed it to be longer. Love Songs of WEB is really a modern classic that will be required reading in the future. Such complex storytelling and great writing.
I just finished the Big Book Challenge that Sue Jackson does every summer. I read 6 books over 400 pages from Memorial Day thru Labor Day and it was a fun challenge. I’m mostly Mystery/True Crime. I laughed out loud when you mentioned feeling like one of the characters. I remember reading a scene in one book, the girl was locked in a closet because someone was in her house and I was right in there with her, when my phone rang, scared me to death 😅😅😅😅
Omg that’s a book you DON’T wanna be a character in 😂😩 Ah yes I did see that challenge floating around. It’s hard for me to go over 400 in the summer 🤦🏾♀️
I’m new to big books so I’m nervous but excited haha but no matter what books you talk about I 𝐀𝐋𝐖𝐀𝐘𝐒 add every single one of them to my tbr and let me tell you Honey you have not disappointed me yet. You are the 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 BookTuber I can actually do this with. We love you down in this community, always! 💕👸🏾🙌🏾
Oh wow! I feel like once you read THAT you can laugh at books that’s 800 pages 😂 that’s the tome of all tomes. I want to read that one as well and I hear that even though it’s long it doesn’t get boring which is great.
@@ChocolateCoveredPages Yes, it was a page turner. Even though it is a class I feel like it read as easily as a modern thriller. Dumas has a way of bringing the reader in, and making you truly feel invested no matter the stakes. I also read another work of his, "The Black Tulip." I never thought I could care about two people growing plants, but the rivalry between these plant enthusiasts was intense.
Commenting before the video even starts because I’m so excited! 😂 some of my faves: Demons Dream- straight 🔥🔥🔥 I finished it in a day! Couldn’t eat or sleep The Reformatory -is one of my favorite books of all time! A Piece of Cake -is an amazing memoir that’s just shy of 500 pages. It was great. The woman I hired was able to go all the way back to the 1800’s. Seeing those names of my ancestors and the places they originated before making it to New York was amazing. All I had to provide was the few names I knew and maybe a few locations. For $60 it was worth it!
Age Of Vice is also on my radar. Honoree Fanonne Jeffers is also on my radar too! The thick books that I liked reading are Babel and some of the books in the Wheel Of Time series. I only read until Book 3 at the moment. Thank you for introducing Alexander Chee.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I HAVE BEEN LOOKONG FOR THICK BOOKS LATELY.... I LOVE BIG BOOKS BECAUSE I LOVE LIVING AND REALLY SOAKING MYSELF IN THE STORY FOR AWHILE. I WISH SOME OF MY OTHER BOOKS WERE LONGER BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY HATED WHEN THE STORY ENDED. I wasn't ready....I needed more 😂
Nice selections...I totally agree with you on The Warmth of Other Suns. That is a MUST read or listen to it in audio! I have yet to read Caste' as well. I have yet to purchase The Reformatory by Due. She is such a great writer! The sizes don't intimidate me because, like you I will listen some, read some or do both. Yes, i plan to listen in audio The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois. Hi Keyona! I'm a new subscriber and I love your channel. Thanks for the recommendations. I think you sold me on the Fonda Lee book series 😄 I'm gonna get book one and see how I like it and if it can keep my attention (my attention span is a little short) LOL! Again, thanks for the recommendations. Keep them coming. Hugs and Love!
I am new to your channel (TH-cam recommended your channel to me) and this year I started reading some big books. There were a couple of comments that made me laugh, like if you don't like fantasy then don't try to read a fantasy big book. I don't know why but I found that to be funny. There were about 5 of the recommendations that I think I would enjoy.
@@ChocolateCoveredPages I have not read many big books because they intimidated me but I realized that I was missing out. Big books that I have read and really enjoyed so far Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks, Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell and Scarlett by Alexandria Ripley, A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas, A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas and A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas. I am looking forward to reading a lot more big books in other genres.
Thank you! Yes ma’am make it happen. I think this is the one that made me feel the most accomplished after. I had learned something AND it was good. The audio is amazing.
Love your channel honey! I have started my first really chunky read, Needful Things by Stephen King at 736 pages . Since I've met my reading goal already of 60 books for the year, I figured I'd slow it all the way down for the last part of the year and read my big thick books I have around the house . The first of which is Needful Things, I also have Fantasy by Stephen King, Eye of The World. I want to get "IT" to read in October
I love chunky books😍. I don't usually reach for urban fiction, but I devoured Demon's Dream in a day-it took over my whole life. The Green Bone Saga is up there with my top 5 fantasy series of all time - I'm a bit sad I only read it once. I might have to do a cheeky re-read 🤣🤣
I absolutely want to reread the green bone saga myself. I think there’s some gems dropped that I didn’t pick up on. You’re the 2nd person to say you read Demons Dream in a day 😂 INSANE
Love this! I don’t read many long books but when I do I love being fully immersed in them for a month or two. You get may more connected to the story and every long book I’ve read has been phenomenal (except imaginary friend by Stephon chbosky- that book sucked)
Yesssss exactly this. Omg I heard Imaginary friend was terrible 🤣 I’m not shocked though because long mystery/thrillers don’t typically work. How long am I supposed to be afraid??!
I think some of people that don’t read big books are the ones that prefer quantity over quality. Because if you find a good book in a genre you love, you wouldn’t mind a big book. Like you said!! But most people are so concerned with how many books they read a month instead of reading GOOD books no matter the size. Demons Dream is on my TBR for this fall. I’m also waiting on Libby to release Reformatory
Oop! 🤭 I didn’t even think of that. Oh I think you’ll love Demons Dream. Looking forward to you reading it. Do you have Everand/Scribd? Reformatory is on there.
@BrynnD 😳 It’s a ebook/audiobook subscription service. Less than $10 a month and they have A LOT of titles. lol, long books are so satisfying. These were really great recs. I’ve been sitting on The Warmth of Other Suns for awhile now…it looks daunting. I’m definitely adding the love songs of w e b Dubois to my list!
Great list. I had no idea Age of Vice is going to be a trilogy. I was hesitant to read it, but I'm so glad I did. Love Songs just didn't do it for me. I may give it a try again. You’ve convinced me to read the Jade Series & Demon's Dreams.
Finally. Someone that has read Age of Vice! It was such a pleasant surprise. I think the ending was satisfying but there’s still a few open items. I think you’ll enjoy Demons Dreams for sure!
