I struggled in the first semester because I did not do this at first, but my grades dramatically increased when I mainly focused on these strategies! #ad 🧠Wisdolia is a super cool resource you can try for free that turns your...
Week in the life of a fourth year medical student on audition rotations ~ VLOG

Hi! I'm a fourth year medical student currently traveling all around the country on audition rotations. Here is a week in my life on auditions. Great video. Very informative. Thank you!! I just heard about this program, and it looks like it's gonna be my path. I'm going to check out your channel for more on your experience so far (as the video is 3 years old now, you are probably preparing for residency). I still have 4-5 months to wrap up my B.S. in Health Science. And I still need Organic Chem 1&2 after that, so, I'm a ways out from applying to Medical School (OSU-CHS here in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a DO). I haven't even started studying for the MCAT and am in the process of gaining health/clinical experience and volunteer hours. Btw, do you know anybody who'd be willing to let me shadow and/or who would provide information/connections? I started researching on my own and first thought I needed to go through OCS to become an officer and then get a specific MOS and get trained in and work a Physician role in the Army. I was thinking I could get experience from the Army that I could put on my Med School app, basically. Today I talked to a fairly new Recruiter (on the job for ~2mos... I know military recruiters are not always fully transparent or competent... Should I seek out more connections for more information? I think I know the answer to that but what was your Recruiter experience like? Do you feel like they gave you all the info you needed?), and he was acting like the HPSP was the only way to go for me (32y/o without an intention to enlist, really, already planning to go to Med School, and earning a B.S. soon) Do you agree? Anyway, I know you are probably busy. I really appreciate what you do! Very best 🙏

    Thanks. I have a few questions: 1.The HPSP student can be a general medical officer or air doctor as you said,but can the student choose which one especially if the HPSP student has fear of heights? 2.Being HPSP student does really guarantee job after graduating? Like is it going to be a problem to have a job duo to the obligated years in military after residency? 3. Can every med student attend? Even the one who wants to be a plastic surgeon? Or to be oral and maxillofacial surgeon? 4.Will the student has time or attending university courses in non-active duty times? Thank you.

    Hi Rachel!! Thank you so much for this information!!! I'm coming off 6 1/2 years of Active Duty (AF) and just learned about the ROTC to HPSP route! My goal is dental school and I'm technically going into ROTC as a Sophomore, this is by far the most helpful information I have found on how exactly you go into the pre-health program, my ROTC commander is new and wasn't able to give me this info so thank you!!! Was there ever a point when you were signing all that paperwork to commission, that you were nervous to commit to being an officer in the case that you didn't make it into med school? Does AFROTC "force" you to accept a position in another officer AFSC?

    4th year DO student here. We take double the board of MD's. We take the USMLE, same as MD's AND we take the COMLEX, a DO specific exam. Both are ~10 hour exams. A DO is a MD that specialized in being O-vertested, O-verworked, and O-vercompensate for Program Director's prejudice.

    • @racheldoesbalance
      @racheldoesbalance 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i do not know much about what British osteopaths do! I have heard that there are osteopaths throughout the world that receive training in only osteopathy and not the basic and clinical medical foundation that we learn in medical school. if this is the case, then I would say that is amazing that they are skilled in osteopathy, but I would not consider them medical physicians, because they do not have that extra education and training in disease pathophysiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, etc. There are many people that are doctors/hold doctorate degrees/are called doctor, but only MDs/DOs are physicians. Regardless, I think that every healthcare role is important and should be respected equally. I'll have to look into it more! Thank you for your comment :)

    Every DO I've ever been to has been excellent. Superior to the MDs I've been to. I'm glad DOs are finally getting the recognition they deserve and I'm looking forward to seeing further growth in this field. Ignore the rude comments. People are so ignorant about medical school and training and what really matters. I know surgeons who are DOs. My obgyn who delivered my children was a DO.

    Thank you for your video! I'm about to enter my junior year on my Type 1 scholarship in Air Force ROTC, and you answered so many questions I had as the only pre-dental student at my detachment. However, I may have missed this, but how does the timeline add up in the end? Would HPSP add 4 years to my time in my contract, or would it cover some of my time? I also saw another video from someone who didn't do ROTC, and she said residency counts towards retirement. I'm just a little confused about what my timeline looks like beyond now.

      Not true and it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, they are all doctors. I know surgeons who are DOs. My obgyn who delivered my babies was a DO. All doctors. Same education and training as MDs. All provided excellent care. The ER doctor who take care of my daughter last month was a DO. Your comment is stupid and ignorant.
