    Hi, I was about to give up about making a character. I was lost in a lot of questions. This whole tutorial series is helped me so much I can't explain it enough. Thank you so much for creating this tutorial series. I almost finished it all but i had to add some accessories to my character that i forgot to do. I couldn't figure it out how to add new meshes to my existing uv map/textures. So i am redoing it. If you have any knowledge in that i would love to hear. I have a one more question, my AO map turns out all black on the body. Just the body not anything else. I couldn't figure out why. Mine doesn't have hardsurfaces like yours maybe thats why idk

    !DISCLAIMER! - This is not an easy tutorial by any means. I have been following the tutorial for about 2 months now, nearly daily. I am stuck on part 7 because you have to use Adobe Substance Painter for textures and baking which is 200 EUROS. You are going to encounter many many roadlbocks during this tutorial, however, if you persist you WILL get better and gain more knowledge about blender.

I have a hard time making sure details don't clip inside the character mesh. I do have two texture materials, one for the character and one for the details, is it possible to have a mesh with multiple materials in unreal?

    Why isn't armour a seperate mesh instead of being an extrusion, what if you want to swap the armour with another

    • @ironbarkgames
      @ironbarkgames หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is entirely up to your use case for the model. For an RPG type game where you need to switch between different armour sets, then you would likely model the different parts of the armour as separate meshes (like the helmet is a separate mesh). For a game where the character is not going to be changing appearance, then modelling the body armour as a single mesh is likely better (this will help alleviate issues in the future with the body clipping through the armour during animation). There's always more than one way to do things, so choose the method which is easiest for you and best for the project.

      Hey there, if tools such as "Loop Cut and Slide (Ctrl+R)" are not working, then it is likely you are still in "Object Mode". Just press "Tab" to toggle into "Edit Mode" and then all of the mesh editing tools should work. It is also possible software outside of Blender is affecting the use of shortcuts (like GeForce Experience or OBS). Do be aware that saying something is "absolutely useless" is not very conducive or helpful for others who may be experiencing a similar issue. What the problem was and how you figured it out should be presented in your comment for it to have any value.

    Wow! Firstly, what a great video. Definitely an amazing study of topology. Congrats and thanks for the content. I ve always heard, (also from you) we should focus on creating quads, however, you created some faces with 3 vertices. That won't be a problem?

    • @ironbarkgames
      @ironbarkgames 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! So a bit of theory on polygons, say you import a mesh into a game engine like Unity, Unity will triangulate your mesh converting quads or ngons (polys with more than four sides) into tris. You don't want ngons because Unity might triangulate these faces in unexpected ways and ruin the shading, quads will triangulate as expected, and tris won't need to be triangulated. The downside of modelling with tris is that they break your edge flow, e.g. you won't be able to add edge loops around the whole mesh because the end will terminate at the tri. This just makes modelling a bit harder at times, but if it's necessary than a tri can be used.
