Cyclesmith Track Days - 22 KTM RC390 - Palmer 1:52.6 - Memorial Day Weekend 2024 - Black
running palmer (in Palmer, MA) on my stock engine 2022 KTM RC390 with pirelli SC1 slicks. first palmer of the year and i'm about 1 second faster than my best time in FY23, so steadily improving (partially due to the slicks lol). considering i literally missed half my apexes, there is clear room for improvement. as expected, as speed increases, accuracy decreases so i need to focus on dialing back in.
also trying out an enhancement to the "data" i can collect without fancy ECU systems / readers. camera facing my throttle/brake hand, with a white line marker on the throttle indicating when it's wide open. interesting to see where i am WO vs. feathering vs. neutral and how quickly i get off and back to it. i think this will be a useful tool in slowly improving by making deliberate changes to my timing.

TTD Blue (Intermediate) Palmer - 1:54.9 on 2022 RC390

I finally dipped into the 1:54's on my RC390 and still had a lot left on the table (because the lap was FAR from perfect). This is just my PB. The little yelp and helmet shake at T1 was because I felt my rear coming around as I got on the gas (does not look that dramatic on the front camera).

Getting sketchy on the 2022 RC390
มุมมอง 1.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a couple short clips of me (a not very capable rider) being bad at riding and losing the rear, mainly due to bad throttle control, but also partially due to the fact that I was running ContiRoads (a DOT tire) on this track day. The final clip was my first crash on this bike. Very inconsequential for me and the bike; outside of dumping some coolant in the grass, the bike was fine and I rode...
2022 RC390 low side crash (parking lot)

par for the course for me as far as my riding ability goes. crashing, typical. i was probably asking for it because i was trying to find my lean angle limit on my RC390 by holding my knee in toward the bike more so that if it did touch, the elbow wouldn't be far behind. this comes the day after i low sided and destroyed my 2016 BMW S1000RR at lime rock, so my mental already wasn't great and i w...

2022 RC390 Track Bike Modifications

High level overview of the modifications I've done to my 2022 RC390 so far; the modifications are limited to controls, bodywork, crash protection, and tires at this point. However, I am a hobbyist and not a talented rider so I don't know how muc...
Tony's Track Days Palmer 2022 RC 390 (intermediate group)

A 1:57 hot lap I put out on the last session of the first day, I was also being evaluated for a bump to the advanced group (and I made it). This isn't "fast," but it is the fastest lap I've done at Palmer since starting a couple years ago. There are plenty of places where I can carry more corner speed and pick up the throttle sooner, and also just have better lines. Hoping to improve and see lo...

thank you (:
Looks better without the faring tbh😂😂
What’s your speed to get this low angle lean?
do they dont crash if u ride70 mph and hit bump or on really bumpy road??? i havent seen any test out there while ride
no issues with bumps, the board stays steady with the single strap setup. i doubt this system will survive a real crash vs. having the TRS bolted directly to the frame of the van, but it's a risk i'm willing to take to not put permanent holes into the van.
So this screw in to wood and not under the van frame? Does it work with out strap and use just front stand lock that thing that u have on trailer for bike to not move front or fall over they sell it in pit pull to
@@sunny7L how many meter is the load space legnt from seat to back dorr?
@@imrin4059 you can get specifics on it in my separate video talking about the TRS mounting system specifically. look for the video titled 'Pit Bull Trailer Restraint System (TRS) Mounting System for Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (Trackday).' should have the info you're looking for.
@@imrin4059 i don't think the system would be as effective without the strap. you have to stop vertical movement otherwise the bikes will hop up and down with every bump. a front wheel chock won't stop vertical movement.
What is the What are the tires
@@СвиленСтоичев-з6у pirelli Diablo supercorsa spv2, street tire, street pressures
@@sunny7L thank you very much.. i ride with pirelli diablo rosso corsa 4 but i think supercorsa is better for knees and elbows
I’m just curious why not get a truck and trailer for the price you pay for the van? Heck maybe could even get a toy hauler and a truck. If you ever get down south we ride a lot of track days with n2 and p.r.e
trailers and toy haulers are less convenient (for me) than a van for a variety of reasons. i think price point is debatable depending on what you buy. a van is not particularly expensive. i am working my way down south as i have time, furthest i've gone so far is NCBike but would like to make it to at least Road Atlanta at some point
Hauling a trailer is a pain in the a$$, and unless you have land you have to pay to store it. Also in California speed limit is 55 when towing. Sprinter van is much more convenient
Do you need super soft tires for this or road sports will do
i was using pirelli's road tire, diablo supercorsa sp v3. it's not a typical street tire, but i think the compound is still street.
lovely stuff! always looks so effortless 😅 I have been training it on a empty parking lot aswell, but on low speed turns. Left side works surprisingly well, right side im still lacking a few inches. also visibility is horrible, i can see shit when i go so far down 😂 How well do you see into the corner?
S1000RR has extremely nimble handling and it's super easy to lean the bike, it's almost effortless. R6, Panigale are super heavy and takes a mountain of effort to lean in comparison. Don't do it if you don't have S1000RR
@Denverian ive never ridden a panigale but ive ridden a few r6s and what you said is completely untrue, in my opinion. in my experience, r6 is even easier (and its definitely not heavier). the rr's electronics do help, though.
Tried this on a F850GS. Side note, my crash guards and barkbusters work.
@@EvLSpectre 🤣
@@sunny7L 45 degrees or so is at limit, but I think I hit that in a banked turn. Usually around 42ish I'm already touching and can feel the tire slipping. Adventure bike though, not what it's purpose is. Or the trailmax mission tires for that matter.
Where did you get that blue chrome mini visor??
it's an arai visor; i have the arai corsair x and i put an arai vas-v pro shade system on it. the vas-v has this small sunshade that flips down. the color from the factory is a dark tint, but you can buy different finishes (like the chrome blue) if you want.
how do you warm up your tires to stick even in low speeds? Or this was done after a high speed session? Props anyway!
@megamaster6 I just progressively lean more and more throughout a series of quick sessions. no high speed session before and I doubt my tires were at optimal operating temperatures, likely well under it when I did this
@@sunny7L tks bro, I never get confortable with grip on this kind of use, need to try harder
I do this with new tires to scuff them in at low speed
Is this really hard or ?
i'm not particularly talented so i like to believe if i can do it, most people can so long as they put in the effort to practice.
is that it, what a dick.
You have too much money. Lottery, inheritance, or daddy?
🤣
Get some retractable ratcheting straps.
for which part?
I thought he would park on his elbow a lot in this video

@@KjKase Arai Corsair X with a Vas-V visor
@@sunny7L wow nice, thanks for the reply. The vas-v visor is pretty cool, I've never seen that before.
Do you have a list of the l-track hooks and rings you used?
@AndrewBurgess000 i got them all off amazon, made by "Cargo Equipment Corp." I bought the small and x-large sized ones.
@@sunny7L Thanks!
No gravel in that parking lot whaaaatttt
Wers nicht kann, solls sein lassen.
Is it normal having grey color oil same with my rc 390 2022 tried every oil without 600kms runtime it shows grey color is it supposed to be red right?
no idea. my oil is yellowish gold when it goes in fresh, and comes out black. that's been my experience with every bike.
I tried this with my wife's Ninja 400, and I'm single now.
This is awesome.
If you’re elbow dragging to elbow drag, you’re doing it wrong.
I want to do this with my new $30k S1000RR, but my bank account keeps telling me no. Are you on street tires? What PSI?
yes, street tires pirelli supercorsa sp v3 I believe, and psi fpr both tires is around 35 here. I didnt check pressures though, but that's normally what I had them set around.
Tutorial please

jesus, if that was 54 than how insane would 68 look if you saw it with that perspective in a parking lot 🤯
I got holes in my exhaust and primary chaincase cover from doing this on a Springer Softail.
The perfect example fort all the safety-experts out there :D Good job and thx for sharing
Wish i could kneedrag on my 16"-wheel 50cc scooter but the damn frame touches the ground first because of it's geometry :D
This guy leans.
Very amazing. How fast do you think you were going?
maybe 20 to 30 mph. the faster you go, the more comfortable it is to lean over
@@sunny7L thank you much!
On my 2023 the fastest I saw on a good long straight was 103mph. I weigh 200lbs with gear on. I saw you getting to 106. Was it slightly downhill? Nice riding!
beginning of the straight is very downhill which helps, yes. im about the same as you maybe a little less. thank you (:
Looking real good Matt!! 💪🏽
I need some small bike action lol
@tgrx4 thank you, Joe and hahah get the r3 out there with me in July (:
@@sunny7L you know I love me some small bike battles
Wow, I wouldn’t have the balls to do that 👍🍻
wtf
come vanno le sospensioni originali, non c'è bisogno di cambiarle?
Are you trailbraking at all here, or just leaning it?
no trail braking, just letting off the throttle at tip in so the engine braking slows and compresses the suspension slightly). not sure if that's right or wrong but typically when i practice this in a parking lot i'm not trail braking.
@@sunny7L OK good to know, thank you
Hi Sunny! Tyres… after having installed the rear sets I also changed the original Conti Roads with Metzeler M9. Yesterday I had a track day and was sure I could lean more and more safely. It went the opposite way, the rear tyre looses traction in places where I had no problems before, I risked a high side also. Even with 1,6 bar pressure. I guess that the tyre carcass is too stiff for the weight of the bike and it did not get warm enough. Any idea? Thanks
I only have experience with pirellis at this point so can't provide insight, sorry. Best to talk to your local tire guy and see if your sizing and pressures are appropriate.
So the conclusion was dflkjk SHOULDER ';l;';' aere ere wesdfsdf

Can someone explain to me on a technical level hot do to this? I've tried, but i still can't get myself to be confident enaugh, i think i'm missing some technique tips
I didn't do anything special except film myself each time, review what I looked like vs. what it felt like, made more exaggerating changes, repeat. can't be afraid to slide your bike on the pavement though.
@@sunny7L hey thanks for the reply. I was talking more about the body position, weight distribution. I'm trying to be more confident on the bike but i keep sliding near the limit, as if tyres can't keep up but i think it's the technique i'm using that's not good enough
Your Visor is very cool, I want it
Arai vas-v is the visor system if you have a compatible model. I have the Corsair x.
Conclusion: i got overtaken by some guy on a sports tourer one day, I accepted defeat.
I never thought of going full Rossi in a parking lot but that is kind of brilliant
This should be dedicated to all the people that say you gotta gain speed to drag knee! Speed does not improve riding, technique does!
Lowspeed maneuvering is arguably more difficult, it takes much more rider control and balance, where when going fast you're just keeping the bike within it's physical limitations and kinda "going with the flow" on what it's trying to naturally do with its momentum and physics. The NYPD has some cool lowspeed training videos on TH-cam from their motorbike units.
What brand / where did you get the fairing?
