Stuck in between 2 hills rn and can not get over 25 😂 in a truck with 250+ packages
Thanks! Had one in a wood chipper wasn’t 1000% sure on timing it up but this helped a lot
Mine threw low reductent psi I’ve re gen 2x and swap nox and checked intake then made pipe white white smoke on re gen 2 now it’s hi nox egr shut down so I’m thinking it’s pump mines 15 I also swapped out fluid just in case and cleaned injector if just pump I’d rather fix it then get into any delete being it’s a lot more work and exspense and risk of legal issues I don’t drive this truck enough so I have seen tank didn’t look for the round plate but will probably have money next week so can put her on my lift bidenomics suck
What year is this
Vehicle
Complimenti:-)
How did you pull the gear off of the pump?
With a small two jaw puller. Came off pretty easily.
Good small emgines for the most part
Great video. My 3500 DEF guage is showing empty but i know the tank is full.
gr8 vid- i want to make a simple puller, can you give me the bolt thread and hole spacing for the gear? And does the gear get pulled off against the center/shaft or the block? would a small slide hammer work?
Great info...
Thanks!
Hey man! Kind of weird. I came across this video. I've got a caterpillar engine part I've been trying to identify and maybe you could help me with that? If it all possible let me know and I'll give you my email address
I have this same problem and I couldn’t figure it out man you are heaven sent
This is NOT a how to video. All the time is spent just showing you parts
Thanks!
nice cranckshaft
Those perkins 1100 series are really popular were im from. Theyre a solid engine abd ive had little problems with them overall. Most common issue us the charge alternator failure. Ive also had the seals on those Delphi injector lumps fail and filled the sump with diesel. The engine ran on diesel as lubricant for 1000 hours 😂 Im not a fan of those Woodward L series governors but tgey seem to work well
Everybody has had an IP seal fail and fill the sump. 1k hours on diluted oil is pushing ones luck.
Nice Video Dude . Kepp em coming!!
Or just change your oil
Yeah both of those look good
Straight to governed rpm!!!
Most def pumps get lost in boating accidents.
All the sounds of mechanical music
Is that a two stroke?
Yep!
Please big boss help me to send your WhatsApp Number
Good job 👍
its has a STD
بسیارعالی ودستگاه تروتمیز💪💪👍👍👏👏
NICE , Keep em coming
did it throw a P203F code?
That engine needs to be under the hood of a nice engine swap ford f-250-550
Torque control group under cover. old cat mechanic
Start it up
When you see that in a truck it's so small, great fuel mileage, I had worn in a Ford dump truck and it's only really good for flat land, we did a lot of work with that in Phoenix Arizona in the valley, you had a 13 speed Fuller are shift transmission it was awesome.
How many hours were on the engine? looks pretty new to need injectors, was it poor stale moisture rich fuel that caused the failure?
Great to hear the half a hole trick. I was taught the same thing when I was an apprentice. I rebuilt engines and fuel systems and ran the dyno at Fabick Cat before I went into a field truck. I enjoy getting to work on these older engines in the field.
I had personally never even seen a 3208 until about a month ago. Had to get the veteran to help me out, much better than following a manual on SIS web.
Hey dude, do you have to do trim files on those injectors.
For us non mechanical minded people who want to learn can you give us more detailed explanation of what your doing, different parts your looking at and things to look out for please.
Will do!
It's just two 15L inline six cylinder engines offset the distance of a single crank journal and 50 degree cylinder bank separation. The one thing I don't know is the fuel balancing strategy with those old mechanical injection pumps. If the injection quantity and timing are not uniform between banks the crank won't live long. Easy solution when they updated to common rail. Those engines are used to sitting behind high static loads all day long.
Very cool video keep them coming.
Thanks Tony, will do!
I know this is the internet... and everybody questions everything. I didn't see a hint of smoke during cranking. Leading me to believe the injectors were not firing. Leading me to question rail pressure or electrical connectivity. Your bypass volume test would have me questioning the pressure relief valve (or what ever Perkins/Cat) calls it. Short of an injection pump self destructing I never see every injector die. When injectors fail from FOD the oil sump is almost always over full. I'm guessing this is warranty or some sort of service contract? What else was replaced? You do good work man. I just want to know exact failures, not what the book says to replace.
@ShainAndrews - Thank you for your comment, I'll try and answer all of your questions. To start, I like you, fully thought it was going to be something wrong on the electrical side of the injection system. The problem ended up being one for sure but maybe more injectors free flowing fuel back to the return side. Having dismantled this engine I nor the customer wanted to replace only one injector, with it being torn apart I might as well replace them all. -I don't know why you wouldn't follow failure procedures, even if it was from a book. I followed the troubleshooting off of CAT SIS, so technically electronic. I also had a full fuel system test kit for CAT/Perkins engines. There is and was nothing wrong with the injection pump hence no FOD and a stable or normal oil level. I am not a Perkins guru as I normally work on large bore engines, but allowing almost 400% fuel return over what is recommended would lead me to believe that very little if any fuel at all was actually being injected into the cylinders, hence no smoke. As I am sure you are aware liquid like anything else is going to take the path of least resistance and expecting an injection pump to flow 400% over return and still keep rail pressure is a lot to ask in my book. -Yes, you are correct, every injector did not fail. Myself and the customer decided we were not going to take the time to run singular injector failure tests, only to be back out 3 months later changing another injector. Nothing is/was wrong with the injection pump. I've also never seen a failed or grenaded injector pump magically start working again either. When they fail and send the stripper dust they don't start working again afterword. -There was nothing else replaced, not even the sensor or valve that I pointed out at the beginning of the video. To sum this up, like I stated earlier, I did not believe that these injectors would be the issue. Some of my coworkers who work on these more than I do assured me it would either be injection pump or injectors, and if it had been injection pump I'd be replacing lines and injectors as well. I in bad faith decided to follow what they said, in hopes of proving them wrong, and tested the pump and injectors. There is an overall surface level test for both the injection pump and all of the injectors at the same time, the injection pump tested fine, the overall injector test failed. There is another test to pinpoint the EXACT problem injector/s, I did not do that and replaced all the injectors. After replacement of the injectors I immediately attempted to start the engine and it responded. There were no other parts changed or replaced on this engine. -This piece of equipment is under a service contract, no it is not under warranty. I worked on this engine in June or July of last year, making this job 6 months old at this point. This engine runs a minimum of 1 hour per week to exercise, which means this engine has at least 20-24 hours of run time after this repair was completed and that doesn't include actual power outages. -I do apologize for not documenting the process in its entirety, to include the diagnostic, this is something I will work on for future projects. At the end of the day my number one concern is getting customers equipment back operational and I tend to forget about filming.
What happened if you see smoke 💨
Skilled man...interesting job...good pay. This should be the formula for all the basement-dwelling dweebs out there playing Fortnite and wondering why their gender studies degree ain't making them any money. Good job brother.
Talk them into feeding that genset a hot supper more than once a month.
Good Work Thank You For The Tech Work & INFO
I appreciate it!
👍👍... Recently overhauled an early 3406E, (1st time overhauling an overhead Cat)...i don't dismantle/ reassemble engine's that often, but i still can't get over the fact how simple those engines really are .. the long block anyway, of the 3400,C15,16,18... Great engine's,but anyway, thanks for the videos 👍👍👊
No problem!
Would love to see a service truck tour!
Ok, I'll have to do that. Probably when it starts to warm up a little.
We’re you getting a p20B9 code?
What pump did you go with? My last one failed in 4 months
I went with an OEM pump from the dealer.
Ouch, how much was that?
Is that a generator with cover off ?
Bro, your videos are the best for instruction. Keep making more. Thanks for making them.
I appreciate it!
Do yourself a favor delete your truck! Saves you a lot of money ! I have a 2020 been through 2 def injectors no more!
This is a customers truck, I have tried to talk him into deleting it.
Delete what if you live in California
Won't it be checked?😂
Thanks for the info. I had the same issue with my international 4700. I pulled the shift column/reinstalled the shift pin in about an hour after watching your video. My shift pin came out while I was backing down a steep grade in reverse. I had my foot on the brakes, clutch engaged, and hand off the shift lever for a couple of minutes. That's when I think the pin vibrated out. The shift lever was in the up most left position (reverse) while facing uphill on a steep downhill grade. I'm not sure if this is a 4700 design flaw or just something that can happen after years of wear.
