You’re making my dream happen right in front of my eyes! Hats off to you man, I admire all the work that you’ve done🫡🤝
Hey, thanks so much!
I have an SPX I’m about to do this to, in fact, it looked like this 10 years ago. Been sitting up by the barn since then. I’m inspired again!
Excellent choice of winter project
VIDEO SUCKS ALONG WITH reed k h
Wow! Amazing job and a lovely bus and story. Your parents are totally adorable 😊 Thanks for sharing your work and story.
They're a couple of good folks for sure
Nice film and interesting to see how it developed to solar, your parents seem real nice folk. I'm about to buy my first bus and looking forward to tinker sundays!
Very cool! Should make for a lifetime of tinkering
The friends dad who leaked the goods here. Loads more in the area just need to go find it after looking at maps to locate the promising areas. The more northern exposures of all the ridges in the area all contain open lines if you go look. Skin up them first and then at least you can follow your tracks out. I have 50 years of skiing in this area and it continues to deliver. The 2023 season was dismal in a lot of Vt areas. My woods lost base three times right down to nothing. This area was consistently skiable the whole season. Being retired I broke trail 50% of my ten trips in there last year mostly mid week. It snowed up there many times when nothing was forecast to.
I'm in love with Vw... Awesome VIDEO
Those ol vans will always hold a special place in my heart. It's pretty amazing how rust free it is! Safe travels!✌️from Ohio
They certainly have some personality. Doing what I can to keep the rust at bay!
What a great watch.... I've had VW campers for over 35 years and still get excited camping in one.... I love the stories to be told and the wonderful people you meet..... Loved hearing your parents memories and seeing yours.... Thanks for sharing 🙏
They are certainly ripe with nostalgia! Thanks for watching!
I never comment, but loved the refurbishment and the story. I'm a fellow Vermonter, also with a 78 Sage green Westfalia--maybe I'll see you on the road. Enjoy!
I'll keep an eye out for another green bus! Glad you enjoyed, telling this story scratched my nostalgia itch.
This was truly amazing to watch. Thank you!
Right on, I appreciate the kind words!
Dude your attention to detail and documentation of the process is outstanding. You're funny as hell too. I also really loved the little montage of that sick graphic job you did and the music that went with it. Chefs kiss bro.
Hey thanks, I appreciate it! Gotta make this stuff entertaining somehow...
Can’t watch. The excessive jokes are driving me nuts man
What a cool video, I like your parents
They're pretty dang great if I do say so myself.
In the mid 70s I had a 69 bus. it was kind of fun to drive like a really tall go cart only slower. Half of it was gone due to rust and it was on it's second motor... the brakes kind of works as long as you didn't really need to stop. It had a top speed of about 56 back when the speed limit was 70mpg everywhere. I later learned that the Germans tried to put my grandparents into an oven... since than I have a hatred for over priced over rated german cars... but I do have fond memeories of my old slow rusty bus.
Fantastic video mate, great to hear the stories from your folks.. Priceless memories..
Thanks for watching! It was nostalgic to hear their stories, and I wasn't even around during that era!
It’s cool how they had a picture of the two dudes that fixed frog. 🐸
Agreed! They look exactly like two dudes who would work on VW buses.
all these holes and screws through the floor and wheel case just in the roadspray will ruat as h.... not the wisest decision - can kill your rather fine bus in a jifffy.
Hi, Where did you get the purple paint?
I think I got it at an auto parts store.
Love the series I have 2 myself pretty close in years wondering a guess and what you would say cost wise was for the parts on this and if you have any recommendations on sites
It cost a little over $2k, including the $400 for the ski itself. If I remember correctly, Watercraft Superstore was a valuable source for parts.
Nice 👍
Dude this was great. Unexpected hilarity is much appreciated
Always happy to provide surprise entertainment
@reed.k.h i want to thank you for this in-depth rebuild. You have encouraged me to not try the same, as I am without a basement nor a winter season.
@@paulmryglod4802 Excellent, mission accomplished.
The amount of education and brain rot in these videos have canceled each other out and now I feel dumber and smarter at the same time. But thoroughly entertained.
I'm glad something positive came from this jumble of senseless chatter
I really enjoy the process from the first second of your video until it last, most of the times camper only took a shoot on how the camping journey, you build it and remodeling the van from the scratch. Seeing your parents eyes, I know there much fun stuff and hapiness they're shared each other in the journey you bring it back the joy for them, really love the way you do. Sorry my english is bad.
Thanks for the kind words!
I’m 3 years late but how do you remove the drive shaft?
From what I remember, you have to remove the pump, and then the driveshaft just pulls out.
Hey from Milwaukee Wisconsin!!!!!
Well howdy, nice state you got here!
Very likely that something else caused those capacitors to blow like a bad diode/ a shorted circuit. You’re better off replacing the whole unit. Unless you have something that’s better than just a soldering iron and flux. I tried that replacing a couple transistors in a 7.3 IDM back in the day. Worked for a week and they blew again.
Yep I ended up ordering a replacement unit, got the old unit repaired as a backup
At 20 years old things fail randomly. I had to bake an ECU from 96 that was only like 15 years old at the time because half the solder joints had cracked from thermal cycling for over a decade.
The question is can you drive it without that unit until you get it fixed
you can't its literally the brain of the car.
Haha the engine won’t turn on without it
That’s funny! I’m in lacrosse just to your west, you get it fixed?
Yep just got back on the road, I ended up ordering a replacement unit and getting the old one repaired as a backup. I should have posted this sooner to take you up on your capacitor offer! Much appreciated.
Those MIGHT be bad, but the gunk is almost certainly glue. The crosses on the tops are the blowout points, and the telltale is them doming up like a coke can in the freezer. Intermittent issues are usually grounding problems somewhere. Good luck and hope you get it fixed asap
Thanks, I ordered a replacement unit and got the old one repaired as a backup
Dang man, very relatable, weird how life tends to kick you while you’re down sometimes. Prayers for you homie
Much appreciated!
Hope you get it figured out
Thanks, we have some progress!
Good luck
This is amazing. I have just bought a 1973 T2 for my 30th! It's been the biggest adventure and I haven't even slept in her yet 😂 she's in a garage now whilst I prepare to move into her with my 2 house bunnies over winter 😅 I have been told I am a bit mad but I've never been more excited in my life
Sahweeeet! Old vans are always an adventure, whether you want it or not. Hope she brings you to some cool places!
Brilliant!
Agreed!
incredibly funny and nicely done.
Many thanks!
What an excellent video. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Thank you.
Thanks for the high praise!
I really like the way you put this video together. Great scenes, very good commentary. Excellent!
Wonderful!
What about the seat!?!
Do you ever shut up?
I really enjoyed your video. You put a lot of work into the camper and the filming/editing. I'm working on my 1971 Typ2 and sometimes I look for inspiration to get me through some of the more mundane jobs. It can be a lonely journey working on a bus for months, but nearly everyone gets joy out of seeing one drive by or being invited in for a drink.
I can certainly empathize with the loneliness aspect of working on an old vehicle. It's a never-ending project, but every small step is rewarding!
Cool video, wish you actually provided better info about how you refurbished the ski such as what you used to clean and how you went about removing parts from the ski. This is more for entertainment than informative video.
Agreed
for the water pump being loud you can try making a little insulated half box around it maybe
I considered that, it doesn't bother me too much fortunately.
Inspiring video. Gives me some inspiration on my vanagon build. I've been afraid to drill holes in it and "depreciating" it until now. But it's a van and meant to be used and the more creative the better. After seeing you do this its inspired me. Awesome and engaging video.
Hey thanks! That's always been my perspective on possessions: they're meant to be used! Glad I could provide a little inspiration.
Did I just hear a leytress on the menjay?!?!?
Yes indeed
@@reed.k.hsick. I will see you there or I will see you on another time.
You can only discharge and use 80% of a lithium battery and only 50% use of a lead acid battery
I enjoyed this thank you.
Thank you for enjoying this.
My humor is broken😂
Yeah same.
Brilliant just watched your videos. I have this same ski out back. Makes me wana keep it and fix her up after seeing this 👏🏼
That's what I'm here for, offering inspiration
