These are good tips, but the best tip is to buy these high quality guitars used. I have a couple of real beauties, but I bought them at a steep discount as known quantities, and with only a few days wait. The website Kiesel uses is all about drawing you to create a massively customized guitar, which I admit is mesmerizing and fun, but the price adds up quickly, and these aren't cheap even with just a couple of cheap optional add ons, and they advertise a warranty, but are known to deny otherwise legitimate warranty claims where the guitar would be required to be replace by the weasel clause logic that "you added too many custom options, so the guitar is too specific to you for us to be able to resell it. That isn't remotely true, of course, because they don't have options that would make an unappealing guitar; they just don't want to take a loss. They do make amazing guitars, and I highly recommend them, but again, used only; who needs the aggravation of dealing with a guy who screams at you on publicly posted videos for making a reasonable request that they replace the ugly ass neck they sold you; no company is so perfect they are above making mistakes, but some are run by children who would rather go to war against a loyal customer than allow the person to win in a small dispute that would have cost the company a tiny portion of the lifetime value he has already proven to represent to them. It's unforgiveable from the point of view of players who have plenty of great options, and don't need to put up with abuse.

Guitar center needs to train there employees better on spotting fakes. As for buying the replicas for your personal collection I think that’s fine but you should never sell it.

Yup the aesthetics of the S2 is pretty bad and yes looks count. I may buy one if I see one that looks great and is reasonable weight and rings acoustically. No way would I order one blindly. Let the ugly ones hang at the dealers until they price them accordingly. Here in Canada they are just over $3000.

I feel like it's only awkward at first coming from standard scale, all it takes is to drop the elbow and let the natural fan of the hand do the job

My experience with two indonesian ones is that they are hands down fantastic. I could of just been lucky but both left amd right handed ones I tried were amazing fret jobs. Pickups fantastic too lovely matt (not glossy) neck feel liek super super smooth and the dark wood (not sure if its rosewood) looked amazing too

Tbh, the black limba doesnt feel that heavy. I have a DC that's full black limba. It's chambered, of course, but doesnt feel much heavier, if at all, than some of my ibanez guitars. If you truly want to go lightweight, yeah i wouldnt get black limba, but if youre considering black limba, i wouldnt worry so much about weight. It's not that bad.

Builders showing process is such a good idea idk why more custom shops don’t do this. Lovely guitar btw

I did an opt50 build when they were still Carvin, a DC145 which is normally a HSH configuration but with the middle pickup deleted. This was the way to get a HH guitar with a 5way switch back in the day. Also got the "forbidden" reversed Holdsworth headstock which they will not do anymore because apparently musicman gets all uppity about other brands using a 4x2 headstock.

Ok... First, the obvious question that everyone is thinking would be Why in the hell would you buy 4 guitars if youve just gotten through sending the others back? Next. On the one you said didnt fit your idea of modern, did you not see the pictures? And finally, the neck heavy baritone. Its a baritone. Being neck heavy is a common problem. All depends on if the body of the guitar is made with heavy woods and of course the neck wood. Not a Chapman issue. You didnt do your homework before ordering it. As for the production inconsistencies go. Chapman just joined with Trev Wilkerson and has moved all production to one of the best companies outside of the US or Japan. HMI in India is the new home for Chapman. They have a long history with many great names. Fender / Squier and Dean being a couple of them. As for my experience, my Black ML1 Pro Mod plays & sounds amazing. The Seymour Duncan Sentient & Pegasus Humbuckers give amazing clarity with some really ballsy gain. And then theres Hipshot Tuners. Its not a $3000 Les Paul AAA Standard but its a helluva lot more than the $900 I have in it.

avoid buying anything with some stupid figured wood or a K series. Youll get assraped by Jeff, the "man."

Update: I actually decided to upgrade to a one piece Swamp ash body instead of the default 2 piece. This does result in a nicer more consistent look especially on a raw tone finish. Called in to place order right after this video 😀 note that the free metallic finish promo wouldn't apply on the builder for 1 piece body so good example of why calling the guys helps!

You sound like you're just poo pooing them from the start. This is new ground for them. New ownership and platform. How about buying something from them before you reviewing them?

Hey brotha, side note but just a heads up; if you’re on a windows computer, you can screen record without needing additional software. The snipping tool on Windows 11 (and 10 I believe) has video capabilities, and can capture your mic as well if it’s set to the input on your PC. But I’d probably recommend to record the audio separately on top so you can obviously do any post processing if needed. Cool build dude, I think a crazy Charizard flame top build might be neat as a theme.

Damn, that A2 is badass!! My Option 50 build is my Neck-thru Aries Multiscale 7 with Aquaburst on a mastergrade Maple Burl top and a custom blue-to-natural KTB on Flamed Maple. I'm ecstatic about the way it came out. Could not be happier.

Unfortunately, crooks are going to be where the money's at. There are so many fakes out there that you almost can't buy anything used without questioning it. Buyers be ware.

Still own the dime bolt I bought in the late 90’s and was shocked to see what they go for on reverb. The quality of the guitar was never great. Wonder how people spot the knock off since I paid about $799 if I remember correctly. Like picking one up now after 30 years of playing I would think it’s a knock off LOL

Im about to order a primal concrete sledge ML from one bilder in china , why the fuck should i give 5-15k for a overpriced guitar that some guy bought for the fraction of the price . I wanted this guitar and im gonna get it , i dobt care if its fake im not trying to sell it as a original i just wannt a sledge ML and they can make my dream guitar come true

The same thing can be said for Kurt Cobain. Not so much for counterfeit guitars but any gear he’s associated with. Take his signature Mustang and Jaguar Fender did a few years ago. I remember when the Mustangs first came out they were only $999 and now over the years people have been selling them on Reverb from $2k up $4k

7 Kiesels in, totally agree , great info for the Kiesel newbie. Would also mention that most of the colors are much darker than they seem on the builder. I once ordered a Holdsworth with swamp ash and the "transparent" sapphire blue, it was so dark as to be almost black, couldn't see the grain at all unless you shined a flashlight on it. Sent it back. (and they don't pay for the shipping to return )

I paid extra for a Buckeye Burl A7 Master Top. Was a bit skeptical like paying for 'hot wax' at the car wash just to see the light turn on. Have to say that Jeff's pick was absolutely gorgeous and do not regret the extra bump in price.

Would a Malibu stain with poplar burl and translucent black burst edges come out ok?

I requested a natural (umber) to purple burst option 50, I sent a photo. They did a great job; matched it very well. I posted it on their forum...started seeing other similar finishes on there. Sometimes you manifest well.

In a sense, all current Kiesels will have horrible resale value because of their dated designs. Eventually, the cheap formica top phase of guitar finishes will go away and you'll be sitting with a bunch if stuff nobody is interested.

Now they build them in India. No thanks… it absolutely does matter where the guitar is made.

I wish Keisel would offer veneers on some models as a cheaper alternative to a top which requires certain woods making the guitars more expensive.
