G'day Bodgies and Widgies! I finally converted my 6 foot native Australian aquarium into a planted paludarium which was something I really wanted to do. This adds such an awesome dynamic to the aquarium and really makes this an ecosystem. I also did get an absolute tonne of new Australian rainbowfish for the system too which add so much life to this tank.

I keep mine in a no heater tank. Temp between 16-22c
Omg is this Dempsey in a community tank ?!
Some native Australian blue eyes (pseudomugil) species would look amazing and would fit the theme very well! I'm excited to see this setup as it grows and the Aussie lung fish too!
I believe you have the yellow tail chalceus (Chalceus erythrurus).
Here in America they are just as rare. I saw one at the hidden reef (largest fish store for the New York area) 5 years ago. I saw the second one yesterday when I bought it, however for us they are VERY cheap compared to what you said it’s like for you. I bought mine at 5” and $20
Thanks! ❤
Very helpful.
Hey mate , how do you adjust the night light colours ? Mine seems to be stuck on green ive played around with it but just cant figure it out cheers
why did the tentacles of your elegance retract as compared to older videos? Is it because it's irritated by the hosting of the clowns?
Yep, I wouldn't call it irritation per se, more so adaptation. The elegance was still fluffy as ever, big, eating and growing but it definitely knew it was being hosted so it basically spread itself out more creating a wider, smoother surface rather than ruffles and waves.
Spanish Ribbed Newts or Lorestan Newts would do well if the water temp isn't too high. Would have to buy adults though, as the larva are quite small and probably delicious to an archer
Unfortunately neither species is available in Australia but we do have a few native skinks that may work. I’ll possibly skip the archer fish since they may be too predatory with the rainbow fish too
Nice one mate, hey how're the rays going?
Thank you mate! Unfortunately I had to rehome the rays during the house move however they’ve been upgraded to a much larger tank. Rays are on the cards here though :)
@BodgieFromStraya cool, excited to see how the room develops
Nice one dude!
Thank you sam!
ay fix the spinning thing
hahahaha I love how you picked up on it. I cut the pipe too short but ordered more pipe of the same colour. It shall be fixed sir.
I only have space for an 500-600 liter aquarium. But i really want to keep like 2 rays. The only problem is that i dont have space for bigger tanks. Does this mean i shouldnt keep stingrays?
It would be the wisest option in all honesty unless you wanted to keep marine rays. So many smaller species that would be perfect in a 600 litre aquarium as long as you have the right nutrient export :)
@BodgieFromStraya i wanted to keep black diamond rays for a while. How big do they grow and what size tank do they need? I only wanted to keep like 2 in that
have you ever kept redfin?
Unfortunately not just due to the legality of it. I do think rules have changed now but I just haven't gotten around to keeping one.
@BodgieFromStraya I saw that if you get permission from the vfa or if you prove you won't release them it's legal now. I'd love some aswell they have beautiful colours. What size tank do you think they'd need?
Yo bodgie, unfortunately I wouldn’t be adding any fish or reptiles into this aquarium. You’ll find the archers would smash any small frogs
I had that concern too, especially with archers predating on smaller fish so they could be out of the picture entirely.
Very cool. I can see some archer fish shooting bugs off those leaves.
exactly the idea! Thank you Gil!
I’ve set up my first aquarium today, just a 20g long and after cycling I finally added 6 Guppies and love watching them swim! This is the food the lady at the local fish shop recommended, I asked about frozen brine shrimp and she said to start them with this, I mentioned that I want to add Corydoras next and she said I could fed them the same, fed the Guppies earlier and they loved it! Even my little guy who was struggling to get to the food was actively eating these flakes
Great to see the progress 👍
farm dams are so tricky. good to see you got an expert… we had a dam done a few years ago and it is a joke. only fills with water after heavy rain. wrong location, bad build, not clay soil base. wrong soil. fortunately we have good ones built properly so we don’t need it. Never have a dam built by a non-dam builder. They were road-builders looking for dirt😢 we were the suckers I had started stocking another dam with baby Aussie Bass (highly recommend this fish) but had failed to notice a large population of long necked turtles. Dam dried out completely last year so they would not have survived anyway. Dams drying out from time to time is common (every few years in a dry spell). Even with a solar pump and constant water supply this large dam went bone dry. Some dams can last out a dry season, but some don’t. Sooner or later you will probably discover the curse of Australia. The mosquito fish. And the carp of course.
Dude this is epic!
Would certainly want to watch your farm build …
I was concerned when I saw the thumbnail containing you and an excavator. Looks like you are going to need a butload of gypsum.
hahahaha the concern with chaotic bodgie in a vehicle like that. I'll get in it soon enough!
Sounds like you guys need to talk to an agronomist about your soil. And seek some advice on your desired animal stocking, 8acres is really only enough for 1-2 cows or a couple of sheep or goats ect especially with poor quality soil and pasture.
Oh yes, it's actually booked in too. There's a lot of soil work we are getting done before animals or even all the trees we have go in. Thank you Dave!
How are they doing now?
These were one species I unfortunately didn't bring over to the new fish room because of the lack of tanks. I got an offer I couldn't refuse for them but I'll absolutely be getting more soon!
How to buy in india ??

@@Gilsfishroom woah! I didn’t even know variegated peace Lilly was a thing! I need one now haha
Heaps of different varieties. Domino is probably my favourite. Looks like it's back to Bunnings for you!
Love it mate, love these little indoor pond builds are just beautiful indoor art pieces. Great work!
@@jonathankool1997 thank you mate! Idk if mine qualifies as an art piece right now but I’m hoping it grows into one
I can pat and hand feed both of my rays
that's sooo cool!
That’s crazy pancake looks so different to my 50%BD 50%Motoro he’s black with orange/gold spots and his belly is white with black spots. Maple also looks so different to my pure Motoro my girl is more caramel with orange spots
Right? that's just the way the cookie crumbles with these hybrids haha. even with motoro's there's a lot of genetic variations that come into play as well.
Hello! Do you think I would be able to keep a male motoro in a tank that is 84"×24". I will stay away from female rays as I know they will get too large. I've been very interested in rays for a long time but I'm not sure if my tank is wide enough. Thanks so much!
I think you'd be okay, you have the length and the system volume, whilst the width is sort of the debatable minimum I think a male should be okay!
@BodgieFromStraya Thanks so much for your input! Happy to hear that :)
So sad to hear about Neo bro. Good to hear you are recovering well. Looking forward to see more videos soon
Thank you mate, I love seeing your fish room updates too!
Really awesome aquarium setup man. I enjoyed the dive into your epic filtration system and that yabbie is so cool he’s putting in the hard yards helping out in the engine room :)
Thank you man! I’m glad you liked the deep dive, I’ll admit I did get worried it was too deep haha. Every sump needs a yabby now hey😂
Looks awesome man!
Thank you Aaron!
Put a sweet potato in your tank so the bottom of it is only in the water and it’ll grow heaps of roots which is good for getting rid of nitrate etc and the leaves grow like a crazy vine
A great idea! I may end up doing that in a few future set ups coming soon too haha
Great tank, you will find it hard to move things around the bottom of the tank being so deep, yes real plants will make a massive difference, some plants growing out the top of the tank would look cool, I'd also loose the plumbing tube makes it look unnatural.
Thank you mate, it’s surprisingly been not that bad since I have a 4 foot work stand that comes up pretty high, I can touch the bottom without getting too wet. I’ll be sure to add the plants in now and yeah, the spinning return isn’t for everyone haha. I quite like it but it does add a very different feel
I'm so jelly of your set up. As for growing plants out the top of the tank, oh please do! I plan on setting up a (much smaller) tank in that same way and I'd love to be able to learn how you'd do it.
Thank you so much! I’ll for sure go with the emmersed plants now!
@@BodgieFromStraya ❤
Neo may have given you a reason to start, but I hope he's the reason you continue with your passion :) He's proud of you up in fish heaven! Glad everything's alright - looking forward to more videos <3
Awww Carla thank you so much! And you’re so right, he’s left me with a lot to work with in this new fish room and I’m forever grateful ❤️
OMG. I just noticed a small editing error during the fish introductions. Sorry bodgies and widgies
Maths is wrong, 6x2.5x3 is 1274 litres or 337 gallon
You just made me have the biggest OMG moment haha. My maths is very wrong. with the sump volume as well the system is 1500 L so near 400 gallons. Good lord I got that very wrong hahaha
Looking forward to following the progression of the new fish room 👍
Thank you Tony!
Bodgie keep looking to the future good luck buddy 👍
Thank you for the support mate!
You will have to stretch your arms to reach the bottom of the tank HAHAHA,Love the tank.Try some lights from MAKEMYLED i run their pendant lights on my 6ft.They do panel lights as well.
Hahaha oh man, I need to stretch my whole torso! But I’ll for sure check out the MAKEMYLED lights since it’s an Aussie brand as well! Thank you mate!
Great work mate, always love a bit of a simpler scape! It show cases the fish better! Love the logs coming down from the top its awesome!
Also LOVE the paladarium scape, will really suit to bring plants and scape to the tank but not take up to much if any space from the fish can keep the water area simple and clear for big fish but have a glorious riparian ecosystem up top!
Thank you mate! I’m thinking to just let the plants and fish do the talking without making too many changes. I also do like the idea of keeping the aquatic area somewhat minimally planted since the roots of the sub aquatic plants should be crazy
@@BodgieFromStraya mate, I did a simple Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum sp.) at the surface of my Fahaka Puffers Tank and the root system now spans the back wall of around 4 foot and has grown into the substrate. Can tell you from my studies of freshwater Australian habitats and research majority of vegetation in them is riparian not aquatic. P.S giant valisnaria would be crazy amazing looking in the tank 🌱
@@jonathankool1997 Awesomeeee! okay I do want a fair few peace Lillies, and was it fine with just sticking the root end at the surface of the water with no substrate or anything? Giant val is also on the cards!
@@BodgieFromStraya absolutely mate, peace Lily's don't need any substrate you can just keep them at water level with their roots and they go nuts if food and water is there.
