Actually cool fact! Freshwater stingrays excrete pure ammonia not Urea! Marine fish excrete Ammonia because of the high salt content and since freshwater stingrays are actually very recent evolution their urinary system functions like a marine fish! So thats why the filter system is so important as they, like a marine fish put out raw ammonia constantly. Check out some of the scientific research into their lineage and unique adaptations (Like the fact they are one of the only group of rays to CHEW?!) Anyway! Flapjack (My Ray) says hi to yours!
Omg PURE AMMONIA! Yeah so that further confirms that heavy duty filtration is a must, probably more important than overall tank size. It's crazy how close they are to saltwater fish, i've been reading a lot more about these fish anatomically and its just so fascinating.
@@BodgieFromStraya crazy hey! Agree with the super effective filtration. Size is super important for the animal but the processing waste is paramount. My curiosity peaked when I read an article on how they were closed in and became freshwater with the forming of the isthmus of Panama. Crazy cool stuff. Great fish.
Hello! Do you think I would be able to keep a male motoro in a tank that is 84"×24". I will stay away from female rays as I know they will get too large. I've been very interested in rays for a long time but I'm not sure if my tank is wide enough. Thanks so much!
Great comprehensive guide there Bodgie. I reckon watching this makes me fully qualified to keep these beautiful animals, although I couldn't imagine myself explaining to the emergency department nurse how I came to be stung by my pet fish.
Great video! I have a 48x48x30(300 gallon) tank with rainbow fish. Hoping to find a Mini Marble Motoro Stingray that stay under 13" one day. Just hoping my tank would be large enough for it long term
who's that little guy at 15:05 loved the stingray family introduction. they're all so yummy. IF i ever start my fish collection and get a stingray I'll come back here hahahaha
Great video mate! And thanks for the shout out! I'm glad those pups went to a loving home ❤ Although seeing them nice and coloured up now makes me wish I kept one from that batch 😅
My absolute pleasure mate, thank you for breeding such stunning fish haha. Even today I was looking at the tank, noticed the rays and went "damn, those are some stunning fish" hahaha, i'm jealous of myself lol.
I only have space for an 500-600 liter aquarium. But i really want to keep like 2 rays. The only problem is that i dont have space for bigger tanks. Does this mean i shouldnt keep stingrays?
It would be the wisest option in all honesty unless you wanted to keep marine rays. So many smaller species that would be perfect in a 600 litre aquarium as long as you have the right nutrient export :)
@BodgieFromStraya i wanted to keep black diamond rays for a while. How big do they grow and what size tank do they need? I only wanted to keep like 2 in that
Hi mate, it would honestly depend on your tank size but I'd avoid it. Murray cod can get super territorial and whilst they won't eat a ray, they will try to attack it when they ray is in their territory. probably might stress the ray to death or the ray could fully barb the cod. Just too many risks for me that's all!
That’s crazy pancake looks so different to my 50%BD 50%Motoro he’s black with orange/gold spots and his belly is white with black spots. Maple also looks so different to my pure Motoro my girl is more caramel with orange spots
Right? that's just the way the cookie crumbles with these hybrids haha. even with motoro's there's a lot of genetic variations that come into play as well.
Very comprehensive and detail info on rays. Nice work Bodgie!!
Thank you Denver!

I think you'd be okay, you have the length and the system volume, whilst the width is sort of the debatable minimum I think a male should be okay!
@BodgieFromStraya Thanks so much for your input! Happy to hear that :)

Hahaha I think you should do it mate! A motoro in your big tank would be totally stunning!

Oh that is awesome! based on the dimensions I'd say it would be okay long term actually.
That tank would look crazy though!
Thanks! ❤
