All 4 movies are classics 1.Indiana Jones - Raiders of the lost ark 2.Indiana Jones - Temple of doom 3.Indiana Jones - Last of the crusade 4.Indiana Jones - Crystal Skull
That’s a great ranking.
I think Raiders was also influenced by Popeye, which were serials but mAybe not the type ppl think of as inspiring Raiders since they were animated.
Tot is German for dead, or death.
Thanks matey. Hope you enjoyed the review.
Enjoying!! Wanted to point out the translation as it fits with how you all were describing the character.
Yeah feel free to let us know any observations mate. Close Encounters of the Third Kind Review coming in the next few days.
This live stream was a nice surprise guys. I really enjoyed the chat👍
Hi Doug thanks for joining us. It was good fun and also a test run and we will definitely be doing them going forward. Essentially a pub chat discussing the latest news and topics.
@@Sci-FiChronicles79Nice one. I miss a good Pub chat. I will have the beers and ciders lined up for next time 👍
I thought Barbara's 'Allo Allo' accent was a necessary part of her 'rural innkeeper voice' otherwise her usual speech is quite refined and might seem suspicious to Barrass. Ian does it too.
Hey, caught up with you! 😀 People sure fall in love quickly in the Whoniverse (Barbara, Susan, Leela). Perhaps its something to do with the lack of peripheral vision that everyone seems to suffer from 😁
Warren I would be more than happy to have Leela fall in love with me 😀👍
Well done guys ! very well done indeed !! 👍👍👍
Hi Pete thanks very much for the positive feedback. We have plenty more coming so keep watching. If you have any suggestions for movies and shows you would like us to review let me know. 🙂👍
Another great chat guys. Your enthusiasm and knowledge shines through. I mirror all of your options and comments.
Hi Doug thanks for the great feedback I am glad you’re enjoying it. More currently in the edit suite as we speak and on the way. 🙂

Hey! Just stumbled on this great discussion featuring famous people from other great podcasts such as Type 40, Who's Views etc. Engaging discussion, thanks so much. For me The Aztecs, probably after An Unearthly Child and The Daleks, is an absolutely pivotal serial. Classic Who rarely did history so well! Cheers, Jon, Sarah, Paul and Gary! Rob
Hey Rob Great to hear from you and I am glad you have found us. We have been going for a few months now and many more to come. Glad to have you watching. 🙂👍
Did no one else notice the Tribble-like attachments (Bouffants) fixed to the back of Susan, Barbara and Carol's heads? Obviously a mind-control/expansion parasite that the Sensorites have placed on the women - hence Susan's new mental power (her Bouffant is far larger than the others)
Absolutely mate is it the height of the telepathic power? 😂
I thought Barbara was just so incandescently furious with Tloxotl after he tries to poison her that she just has to get back at him somehow and telling him privately she was not Yetaxa was sort of a "so there!!" moment. And sorry but I thought the final fight was a bit rubbish in execution. Slightly better than Barbara's swings and misses at the Morpho brains.
Hi Warren good to hear from you. The final fight should have been very Karate Kid or Bloodsport! 😂
Who are you? What are your credentials in this field?
A lifelong fan along with my friends on the show. If you watched the show you would get our views on the review.
Wonderful! I finished watching the stream when I returned home, and read the thread between you and Doug! Thanks for showing up to share with us! Even if we can't be there to share the discourse live, we can share our thoughts! Keep up the good work, Jon! The biggest insight I took away was the discussion of Indy's growth from mercenary to righteous by the end of the picture. I'd not made that connection before, but it does make narrative sense. Blessings!
Divining Dragon thanks for turning up and being an important member of this community. Ian’s insights about Indy was great and it’s so good to have him on board.

I’ve watched this enough times that now I look forward to all the comedy gold * the infamous cardboard Voord falls down the chute * the mere threat of violence (or the strong breeze generated by Barbara swinging a small jug about in the air) scares the Morpho brains to death * the grabby statue arms * the Monty Python judges, and * the Voord tripping on his flippers 😂😂 I’m also playing guess Paul’s name tag each week. I would have gone with the Doctor’s line “… and I AM THAT MAN!”
Warrengilson1835 definitely some great comedy moments in this story. 🙂
Oh, and why did Tegana not use the poison he obtained to taint the water supply - instead he simply drains them. Did this just get overlooked in the script or did i miss something?
That’s a great point and I suspect it was just overlooked.
One of my joys in watching classic British TV is seeing actors cameo in new roles. I hadn't realised until this rewatch that Ping-Cho was played by Zienia Merton of Space 1999 fame. I must confess I would have liked her to join the TARDIS crew to escape her arranged marriage and Susan be left behind accidentally. Imagine the impact of accidentally abandoning his granddaughter on the Doctor! …. Although something similar happens during the Chase 😉
😂 yeah Susan deserved to be married off as a punishment for stopping them all escaping in this one. I think I would fill the Tardis with loads of ladies from Space 1999 if I could. lol
I also like mystery in backstory when a show is starting out, but after a good innings like Doctor Who or Star Trek, I flip and like to see the gaps filled - like a 5000 piece jigsaw where I can insert missing pieces and admire the almost-complete picture. What I don't like is when a piece seems to fit but doesn't match the existing picture (Oh Sutekh, are you still there?)
Exactly Doctor Who has been great over the years of building on what has come before but that Sutekh incident is an example of people using the history of the show cheap results.
T.A.R.D.I.S. settings menu > emergency warning system (tick all that are required) Default settings ❌ Cloister bell ❌ Text warnings on screen ✅ Psychic attacks on crew 🤣
😂 I know keep it nice and vague Tardis
I always thought at this point the Dr was deliberately mispronouncing Ian’s name to get a little back for the loss of authority over the group. Hartnell’s line fluffs seem to have been in the middle of long sentences. Has anyone got a copy of the Titan Books script book for The Daleks - that would be interesting to compare
Interesting point Warren. I don’t have a copy but will try and track one down.
This remains a fully engrossing historical. I am not sure ending the season on an historical was the way to go, but it shows the devotion of the producers to the eductational value of the series in 1964. The story was a little mixed. I wasn't happy with Susan's role this time around. It was a step back after the Sensorites. So although there was continuity from one story to the next in this era, the kind of character growth we've grown to expect today was missing from one tale to the next. I liked the surprises this story generated. As I said in the chat, I keep thinking of Tale of Two Cities for some reason. As I reflect on the season, I'm tempted to suggest they needed to swap the placement of the stories, ending with the Sensorites as Susan's 'gift' was highlighted--forshadowing potential for the second year. Of course, by that point, I'm sure Carole Ann Ford was already prepared to leave for greener pastures...but if--IF they'd organized a powerful second year with a serious arc for her character, using the Sensorites as a springboard for her next season, then maybe she could have been swayed to stay. Maybe not. They'd already pulled a bait and switch on her, so...There were fun surprises. Reacting to Napoleon...priceless. I'd react that way. The cast is solid but the story is a bit padded and...rough somehow. Great stream. Your rankings are just right. (Wish I could stick with a live show without regular work getting in the way...) Thanks Jon, Paul, Gary!
Hi Divining Dragon thanks for your comments and your thoughts on Sensorites as the season finale makes sense and you are correct it would have been useful to build on Susan’s abilities from there into season 2. What time are you home from work? I am currently reviewing the upload schedule and I would like to update it so you can watch it when each story goes out and engage with live shows that will be coming down the road. 👍
@@Sci-FiChronicles79 That is kind. I'm not sure my schedule would readily work for you, Paul, and Gary. I'm in Texas on American Central Standard Time. I know that Paul is in the UK at least six hours ahead of me, and Gary is on the American West Coast--two hours behind me. Typically, I make it to school at roughly 8AM each morning, and make it home about 5PM. But that skewers the hours you need to work with your panel. I do practice elder-care and make sure my mother has everything she needs--which sometimes interrupts my availability. Saturdays in the afternoon I tend to be the most available. I do know that Type 40, Tzvi Lebetkin, Who's Views, The Sense Sphere all seem to have busy Sundays, so I'm thinking Saturday may be a way to expand your live viewership. But I just don't know much about how the TH-cam algorithm works. I DO know that I'm really enjoying your reviews! And I want your channel to grow!
The robot is spooky. I was just thinking I always pictured Lord Vetinari as looking like William Hartnell. I also think Denis Noble could get a shot. His frienemy Richard Dawkins married Lalla Ward, so there is a weird symmetry.
Hi Deadmab746 I hope you are well? Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂👍

Just getting over damn Man-flu , so I needed this. You cheered me up ,thanks guys👍. I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. I have vague memories of reliving the episodes with school friends. I must confess we were all about the Monsters, so straight Historicals were not our favourites. As an Adult I've learnt to appreciate them, but even now I prefer a Monster in the mix. Nice one 👍👍
It's cool.
Thanks mate coming from the guy behind Rebecca Gold that’s big praise. Anyone who hasn’t seen Rebecca Gold should check it out on TH-cam now! @RebeccaGold 👍
Sounds very fantastic😮
Thanks just something I am working on and testing at the moment. 🙂
OK so I’m starting my marathon a bit early- why not? 😊 First episode the Doctor says that he and Susan are exiled from their home planet but hope to return someday. Doesn’t gel with the long standing tradition that he borrowed the TARDIS and ran away. Perhaps he lied to Susan about why they left Gallifrey - it would fit with his character in these early episodes. 🧐
Hi Warren yes agree they did adapt this as they went along but it certainly wouldn’t be out of character for the first Doctor to lie to Susan but maybe they just didn’t want Ian and Barbara to know the full facts. 🙂👍
👌👍
Who is providing the artwork for your thumbnails? They are fantastic ;)
It’s a fantastic artist called Daryl Joyce. If you go on X you can find him and he puts up daily images. It’s a privilege that he is happy for us to use them on the show. 🙂👍
@warrengilson1835 Daryl also has a book out showing his Doctor Who artwork and has a calendar coming out that is now available for pre-order. 🙂
Just found you guys and subscribed - I'm going to start another run through classic who starting either in the new year or on the anniversary - so I'll definitely be checking in with you after each story. Treated myself to a big screen tv when I retired so looking forward to seeing them on it. Just now making my way for the second time through NuWho and its ok and some episodes are lots of fun, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the classics for me.
Hi Warren Great to hear from you and thanks for subscribing. I enjoy New Who up until the Jodie Whitaker era onwards and enjoy it but as you say it doesn’t hold a candle to the classics. I setup the channel because I wanted to get back to talking about the pure joy of this fantastic show so it’s great to have you on the journey with us. We are putting episode reviews up every Monday evening at 6pm and the next one is The Reign of Terror. Let us know your thoughts. 🙂
Another great chat guys. I love how much fun you are having. I remember watching this one recently when Britbox still showed Classic Doctor Who ( in Australia at least. I think Disney may have put an end to that). I very much agree with your views. I love the idea of the "Arse Licking Sensorite"😂. Thanks again for the invitation to join the panel for a chat. Its being seriously considered. If you haven't done so already , I strongly suggest inviting Divining Dragon to sit in. His knowledge is immense and opinions well thought out👍 ps. Oh, heck. 12 Noon tomorrow for me...I think I shall be in class. I will have to catch this on rewind! Rats! I'm certain it will be a good review.
Hi Divining Dragon no problem watch it when it’s convenient for you. I am going to be looking at the schedule and potentially putting it out later. Thanks for your support my friend and as said before we will have to get you on at some point to join in the reviews. 👍
@@Sci-FiChronicles79 Watching on replay, I'm reminded that it felt for the first time Susan was both assertive AND 'gifted' as her latent powers came into play. I know how such a gift would be played today, but it seems in 1964 they weren't quite clear on how to capitalize on such a promising element to the story. I'm almost tempted to think--since she'd be gone shortly thereafter, and Hartnell would be gone in two more years, that if they'd TRULY mined that component to give Susan more agency in other stories, that Carole Ann Ford may have been willing to negotiate to stay until the 'end' of Hartnell's run wherein an epic story that combined her departure with his regeneration could have been crafted. However, hindsight is 20-20. Ah, the lost narrative opportunities! I did love the way the sensorites were explored as a culture--just 'uncanny' enough to be disturbing, but still accessible to the audience. And the role of the humans as the 'surprise' sympathetic antagonists feels a bit original to me. Other stories in the future would play with this dynamic, but it seems The Sensorites really explored this for the first time--and the negotiated resolution speaks to the narrative resolutions that would be utilized in classic Star Trek just a few years later. It did remind me of some elements we'd seen previously this season, but still added something distinct and different. Thank you for a terrific stream!
I've always liked Keys. It's a proper "Boy's Own Adventure" episodic weekly adventure and I bet the 60s kids were hooked. Honestly the whodunit is actually pretty good too.
I have to agree with Jon, as much as I’d argue the Daleks are the all-time extraterrestrial mutant representing a fascist ideology, my favourate stories were the historical stories like, Marco Polo, Aztecs and Reign of Terror. As someone who has watched Doctor Who from the very beginning, I was hooked by An Unearthly Child back in 1963, including the early Paleolithic stone age. Like Jon I’d love to see the Doctor and companions explore the Sumerian, Akkadian Neolithic eras of Mesopotamia. For me the only Doctor who could do this credit would be the First Doctor and that’s why I like to see David Bradley playing Doctor Who in a spinoff with Claudia Grant, Jemma Powell, Jamie Glover or Anna-Lisa Drew, Edmund Short, Sophie Holt, Robin Varley and Ellie Spicer as the original Hartnell companions Susan, Barbara, Ian or Vicki, Steven, Dodo, Ben and Polly. I know this partly nostalgia because I’m 70, and I know Bradley is 82, but he was class in An adventure in space and time and I desperately want that Doctor back.
Hi @Wolfie-p7q thanks for watching and the great comment. Great minds think alike and something just worked with the first Doctor and historicals. I do enjoy the Big Finish audios with Stephen Noonan as the First Doctor so check them out if you get a chance. Great to have you with us on this journey. Sensorites will be going live Monday at 18:00 so let us know what you think and also what you think of the previous season 1 stories we have already reviewed. 🙂👍
@@Sci-FiChronicles79 As RetroDoc says The Witch Hunters by Steve Lyons is a great read, Byzantium! by Keith Topping and City at World's End by Christopher Bulis are also worth reading. I just love how you guys get the depth of the Hartnell era compared with new-Who, so it’s not just me telling myself that the stories were better. The First Doctor ticks all the boxes that Sydney Newman wanted as far as I’m concerned, I’ve had a lifelong interest in history, astronomy and cosmology and I think this is partly due to those early years watching Dr Who in the 1960s. I’ll checkout your review of An Unearthly Child, The Daleks, The Edge of Destruction, Marco Polo, The Keys of Marinus, and look forward to your take on the Sensorites.
@@Wolfie-p7q Hello love. Delighted that you are enjoying the reviews! As with Jon and yourself, I second (or third!) that opinion. As iconic as the Daleks were, the real jewels in the crown of those first 3 seasons were the historicals. They were done so well and performed excellently by Hartnell. We’re not there yet but I’m also very fond of The Romans and The Crusade. It really is difficult to imagine any other Doctor having the brass neck to March into the Concierge as Hartnell did! 😂 I thought David Bradley did an absolutely splendid job in An Adventure in Space and Time but I’ve never listened to his Big Finish audios so I cannot compare. I HAVE listened to the Stephen Noonan First Doctor Adventures and I can heartily recommend those. They really FEEL like you have been transported back to the 60s. You can tell there’s a lot of hard work and love gone into recreating that era, not least by Noonan himself. Bradley may resemble Hartnell but Noonan sounds like he’s channelling Hartnell’s spirit! It’s unfair to say that he’s merely impersonating Hartnell because it is so much more, it’s a performance in its own right whilst being as faithful as possible and he gets better and better with each story. He raises the bar every time. I’m not sure how you feel about Dodo but these adventures begin to flesh her out a lot more and her relationship with the Doctor. It’s nice to see - or hear - some gaps being filled there. The actress who plays Dodo - Lauren Cornelius - does a great job and as a Northern gal, I’m very impressed with her northern accent! 😁
@@Sci-FiChronicles79Great minds again! I’ve recommended them too! 😂 Looking forward to The Sensorites on Monday. I’ll bring my sash! 😉😁
@@Wolfie-p7qYou’re quite right. 60s Who WAS better written and acted, there’s no too ways about it. And that’s because they took it seriously and they had a strict remit to follow: to inform and to educate as well as to entertain to as wide an audience as possible. This seems to have been largely lost. In recent years, it’s moved on to preach, to lecture and to entertain an ever decreasing percentage of people and then they wonder where they are going wrong? Thank you for the book recommendations 🤗
Raiders is indeed a perfect movie. Im old enough to have seen it upon its first release. Its one of the rare occasions that I went to see a film without any prior knowledge. I was living in Sydney at the time and walked past a cinema advertising a "Special Advance Screening". All I knew was " the guy from Star Wars" was in it. I was blown away completely. Im such a nerd i own an " official" Fedora and replica Leather jacket....cheaply made in India but i love it. Eyebrows were raised by my wife when i bought a "toy" replica whip 😉. ps welcome Sarah another great addition to the team 👍
Hi Doug That sounds superb and it must have been great to have been at the advanced screening. A replica Fedora and leather jacket is awesome and mums the word on your toy replica whip mate! 😂
@@Sci-FiChronicles79 phew 😀 Display purposes only 😉
Hello again Doug! 🤗 I am SO envious that you had that first hand experience and had no idea of what to expect! That’s a very rare thing indeed! I had a similar experience when The Fellowship of the Ring was released. I had no idea what the Lord of the Rings was, other than a sequel to The Hobbit which I vaguely remembered reading. My boyfriend at the time had seen the trailer and thought it looked good. All I knew was that it had Elijah Wood in the lead role who I’d seen in The Faculty and Deep Impact and I wasn’t particularly impressed with him as an actor lol. So it was more to appease my boyfriend than anything else and oh boy, was I wrong! 😂 I love that you have your own fedora and jacket and the less said about the whip, the better! Amazing! 🤣
Thank you for being pleased to see me pop up again! 😁 I ADORE these films. This stream was such as a pleasure. It’s always good fun being on with my friends 🥰

Hello my lovely! Great to see you checking out Jon’s channel! Haha yes he swindled me into it, the rapscallion that he is! 😉 Seriously though, I was honoured to be invited on. I love classic who with a passion and I have such a fondness for the Hartnell era, from where it all began! Things all seemed so much simpler back then. No politics, no tribalism, just good old-fashioned storytelling. I don’t mind admitting to you Dough that I’ve had a real crisis with current Doctor Who. It hasn’t felt like Doctor Who to me and I no longer feel any interest or enthusiasm in covering the current era hence my absence from Type 40 for so long. Plus other personal circumstances that I shan’t bore you with! When Jon said he was reviewing classic who on his channel, I practically bit his hand off! 😂 Glad you’re enjoying the reviews and it’s lovely to see you again Doug 💙

@@starryeyedwho. Hi Sarah, lovely to hear from you . I miss our little chats. It's clear you guys are having fun. I totally agree with you regarding Classic Doctor Who. In fact I even put together a little video on growing up with Doctor Who on my channel. Very good analysis as usual! I’m reminded of cliffhanger serials from the Forties. Gary is right-there were some very episodic quests. It feels like they were experimenting with styles, with some ‘misses’ but overall possessing some powerful ideas that were not fully explored. A ‘return’ to this world under Troughton would have been the best window to see the consequences of their involvement. Great show!
Hi Divining Dragon thanks for the great feedback. We had a great time with this one and like you I think they missed a trick not going back to Marinus with Troughton that would have been great. 👍
Good bottle episode. Short, but powerful in developing the relationships between characters. But it gets eclipsed by the longer stories in this first year.
Agree completely
Good review. Marco Polo was epic as a historical romp. I do feel it was an ideal moment for a long story to explore a critical nexus of human connection between East and West. There may have been some moments that weren't explored soundlyin the given episode, but as a Doctor Who story it has reached an almost mythical status due to the length as well as being erased. (Seeing some color shots of Ian in blue silk...I'd have liked to see this in color.) There are several permutations of the story available, but I do wish we had it available. Hard to believe, but I was around when this was airing, though being in the states as young as I was, I'd not have been able to see it much less remember it. This one I had to hunt down on my own. Thanks, Jon!
Hi @Diviningdragon Marco Polo is incredible and like you I wish this one was found and we had it in colour. It’s such a good story and I would say the strongest of the historicals. I love how it plays like a Travel program with Marco Polo narrating the journey with his journal. I have only ever listened to the audio recording. You will definitely have to come on the channel when it’s convenient you would fit right in. 👍
I miss when Doctor Who was about stories and not special effects ... 🦘
Hi Roy, Thanks for the comment. I completely agree with you. During the original Doctor Who era they were limited by technology and although they still tried new things that sometimes didn’t come off they at least made sure they made they developed the scripts. I hope you are enjoying the channel? We are recording The Aztecs and Reign of Terror this weekend so a new recording will be dropping Monday at 18:00 (UK) 🙂👍
Howdy Jon and Paul! How can anyone ever dismiss this Dalek story! If the story hadn't been as compelling as it obviously was, we'd not see the nature of Daleks genuinely becoming one of three arch enemies to the Doctor. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Divining Dragon thanks for your comments. I agree this story not only launched an iconic monster/villain for the Doctor but blasted this show into the atmosphere with regards to its popularity. We are recording Aztecs and Reign of Terror next weekend and that’s season 1 complete. Looking forward to Dalek Invasion of Earth and trust me we haven’t forgotten about the Cushing movies! 🙂👍
Blessings Jon and Paul! (I'm sure there is a joke there somewhere...) This is stellar!
Hi Divining Dragon good to see you mate. You will have to come on one of our reviews. 🙂👍

Great Show Guys! You are building a nice team Jon. Apart from the ever reliable and incredibly knowledgeable Paul ,you now have Gary ( RetroDoc) onboard. Enjoying the chats immensely 👍
Thanks for the great feedback Doug. Glad you are enjoying it as much as we are having fun making them. Great to have you along for the journey. 🙂👍
Thanks, Doug, glad you're watching! These are extremely fun to do
@@gar535 Glad to be onboard I can tell you guys are having fun
Nice discussion guys. I'm lucky enough and old enough to have seen this when it first aired as a 6 year old living in a tiny Welsh village. So instant nostalgia for me. I seem to be in the minority here, but I really enjoyed ( & bought) the recent colourised and heavily edited version. However the original is my go to despite being slow going in sections. I'm often baffled by some of the criticism , particularly much younger fans than us regarding the viewing experience being a bit of a slog. They forget that Doctor Who was not made for binging ( partly because the term as such didn't exist). You would watch an episode on the edge of your seat ( I know it's a cliche now but I actually did hide behind the sofa) and wait a whole week from the next part. Every episode was savoured. I'm looking forward to more Classic Who chats👌
Hi Doug Glad you enjoyed it we had a blast recording this one. Glad you enjoyed the colourised version I have it in the collection but it just didn’t work for me. Like you the original in always the one I go to just because it’s been a lovely companion since I was a kid. 🙂 We recorded a couple today The Keys of Marinus which will go live Monday at 18:00 UK and The Aztecs that will go live a week Monday at 18:00. Our schedule will be Monday nights and we will also be looking to discuss other sci-fi shows and movies that will go out on other nights.
@@Sci-FiChronicles79 Excellent 👍
Very true. New Who misses the serialized format, where we can only digest half an hour at a time, maybe once a week. I think the binge process loses something in terms of a show creating a cultural touchstone that lasts generations. Young people DON'T know what they are missing.
This is the first regeneration that I ever had experienced
Thanks for noticing I just put this one up as a text mate! Its such a very good and regeneration. :)
Nice new channel New Subscriber. Good to see two guys I enjoy listening to on other channels front and centre 👍
Hi @Dougsims4242 thanks for subscribing and great to have you onboard. Let me know your channel so I can subscribe mate. :)

Otherwise type BOOMER DOUG......NOT Boomer DOG....which I just found out also exists.🫣 I've had some crazy views on a couple of videos. I have no idea what I'm doing, but loving people sharing childhood memories of classic shows they love
Oh! I found it today! I'm going to be following this! Classic Who!!!
@@diviningdragonwelcome aboard DD. These are nice chats by two knowledgeable guys clearly enjoying themselves. Gary AKA Retro Doc joins the team in future episodes. Well worth your time 👍
Just Subbed. Nice review. Great to see Paul spreading his wings on another channel 👍
Thanks Doug. Paul is a good friend of mine and this is a project we have wanted to do for ages. Glad to have you along for the ride mate. :)
@@Sci-FiChronicles79 👍
7/10 a little long want to see colorized/edited version. Saw omnibus versions of all of these for first watch
It’s the original broadcast version for me it’s so good but I do think they could have trimmed it down to six episodes.
