I've been on TH-cam for 4 years now and I've learned a lot through all the ups and downs. There are some things that I wish I knew or that someone had told me back when I started out on TH-cam, which is the subject of this video. A lot of people struggle to keep themselves happy when making videos on TH-cam, so rather than covering the usual stuff, this "TH-cam Advice" video is focused on how you can stay happy whilst creating videos in a healthy and sustainable way.

How this YouTuber turns every video into a movie
มุมมอง 1.1K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Better Ideas, a TH-cam channel run by Joey Schweitzer, has over the years become one of my favorite sources of inspiration as filmmaker. Although it's not a filmmaking channel, the outstanding quality of the storytelling and cinematography makes it something I think a lot of filmmakers can learn from. In this video I break down some of the key video storytelling techniques used in one of Joey's...
Trying to be cinematic is ruining your videos
มุมมอง 7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
How to be Cinematic has to be one of the most searched terms when it comes to filmmaking. Everyone wants the cinematic look - it's a key component of what makes a good video. But focusing solely on cinematography could be ruining your videos in the same way it's ruining Hollywood movies and TV shows... Let me explain... มุมมอง 6617 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a short film about the longest walk of my life. Lately I've been feeling as if technology is taking over the world and also my own life. So for a bit of a dopamine detox, I decided to turn off my phone, pick up my camera, and go for a walk... for 12 hours. We completed an ultra marathon in the process. I worked hard to film the entire thing throughout the day, although keeping my filmma...

I've been using my creativity, working as a freelance filmmaker for a while now and I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on how a beginner can start doing this themselves, and get paid for being creative. I never thought this was something I'd be able to do years ago, but now I literally make money from creating videos for people, which feels insane at times, but it's awesome! Cameos & Assis...

A cinematic short film about having the courage to break the mold and pursue what you're interested in, rather than taking the easy option and copying what everyone around you is doing. My plan this year is to create on my own terms and I'm looking forward to seeing where that takes me. My hope is that maybe this can motivate whoever's watching to make this year the year they also take a leap o...
A new camera won't change anything

Does a better camera make you a better filmmaker? In this video I reflect on the cameras I've owned and what they've enabled me to make, but also what I've learned through using them. This, all in an attempt to answer the age old question - does gear matter? Things have been slow when it comes to making videos lately due to my old camera breaking. Hopefully now that I have a replacement, this w...
The reality of being creative

A casual BTS video of how I prep for a video, what's going on with me right now, and how I try to combat becoming overwhelmed and a disorganized mess creatively. I'm making this as a sort of interim video, just to give a few of my thoughts on how to organize your creativity - while at the same time trying to get my life together. Alphabet Superset will hopefully resume next weekend. Thanks for ...

YouTube's authenticity problem (and how to solve it)
มุมมอง 631ปีที่แล้ว
TH-cam has a problem with authenticity. It's become filled with copycats and unoriginal video concepts. Ever since the Mr Beastification of TH-cam, real authenticity has become rare. Although it's true that pure originality is probably impossible, I think there is a way to make sure that creative people remain authentic. Consuming less and living more. This video is an introduction to a new ser...

มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
Running a marathon was something that, until recently, I'd always thought was unachievable for the average person. In this video I challenged that belief to see if I could run a marathon without training. We're all capable of so much more than we realize, and it's my aim with the videos that I make to both push myself and help others realise they're capable of the same. I hope that this video g...

This is very true need to be authentic and enjoy what your doing to some degree for sustainability.
Actual level headed, down to Earth great advice. I don't want to make money from 'the tube' but I would like to see people enjoy what I do. Thanks!👍
I like your visuals. I just started my own vlog channel and bought a dry erase board for it 👍 now to actually shoot the video
It's like I spoke to TH-cam Jesus...Be nice and be happy, or tear people down and be happy cause you a sicko, the choice is yours, but be ready for consequences...
I’ve been doing this all my life.
Loooove this video. Easy to follow, educational and applicable. Thank you!
Love this sort of video!
solid takes, completely agree. freedom vs growth is the biggest challenge I face as a creator. I typically can't have both. I think growth is more important for me (focusing more on videos people wanna watch to grow and eventually monetize) than my own passion videos, but I also need some sprinkle of that from time to time so I fuel myself. I'm thinking of creating 3/4 videos for "others" and 1/4 for myself.
Seems like a good ratio
We shall make it
Good Video!
Well good info, I'm going to send it😅
I'm just starting out as storyteller narrating my own content. My first video bombed (31 measly videos). But...I am doing what I love and will keep tweaking the content and learning to get to a place where I have a format that is sustainable and meets the needs of my target audience. It's a long term journey and you have to grow a thick skin, believe in (and most importantly) enjoy what you do. This is a great video and really lifted my spirits. More please...
Great video! I’m 4 yrs in and just hit 5k subs. Thinking a lot about sustainability and growth, vs being normal and free. Great thoughts, thank you!
Incredibly insightful video, thank you for sharing Tom! ❤
That was educational and fun. Thanks
Cracking advice mate. Actual advice and not what some people on here advertise as "advice" and make a 20 minute video without saying anything at all!
Very refreshing advice. Be yourself and your people will find you 😊
Freedom.... for me always. 💪🏻👍🏻🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻
Quality video mate. I took the leap 6 months ago as I absolutely love Minecraft. Almost at 2k subs, all organic, creating stuff that I like!
nice vid :) all you’ve argued is proving true thus far
So much truth spoken in this video. Very enlightening.
KEEP GOING LITTLE CHANNELS
great insight. I'm currently living in the normal/freedom realm right now, would love some of that growth though, time to become delusional
superb video my friend!
Great video Tom, you’ve articulated a lot of the thoughts in my head and brought them all in line. I’m at the Freedom vs Growth fork in the road at the moment. Thanks for the video 🙏
Can you please share which camera and lens you've used to film this video? I see your description mentioned a few options :)
I love the drawing! You should make it available for download, it would be a nice addition to a vision board or general reminders :) (ok I came to the end of the video now, you've made it available and I just got it, thanks!)
I like this, just straight talking, honest youtube. You are not special, but that doesn't mean you can't be successful.
I've been making my videos for myself for years. I just like making friends and family laugh at our adventures 😂
Thank you for being real. Meant the world to the real people. I'm just starting my TH-cam channel about 1.5month a go.
This has to be the best advice video about TH-cam that I have seen, Thanks for posting a realistic honest video, just do what you enjoy and be yourself 😊 Thank you for sharing an honest video about TH-cam 👍🏻
Thankyou for sharing 👌👌👌👌
HOW TO GO VIRAL FAST 😕 SHORTS ?!
I operate two channels. One where I try out all sorts of things (my playground) and one where I work hard. Let's see how it goes...
It’s been hard asf hahaha
Hey Tom, could I please ask what happened on day 4 after you released this video? What changes did you make if any? Did you share it else where, did you add Chapters, did you change keywords or the Category? I am very intrigued. Congratulations on making a living out of TH-cam, you seem like a good dude who has worked hard to get where he is.
Great advice - we just do not want to make our channel about us but about our channels subject/ all this egotistic influencer crap turns me cold and I can’t understand who would watch then but I’m in the exception
Binged a few of your videos after seeing your latest TH-cam advice video. It saddens me that sacrificing my creative freedom, making whatever I want, might be the only way to grow. I am growing slowly but posting everyday and having fun. It's hard to give that up for views. I think I'll just keep having fun making whatever I want.
This was a really great video - needed it going into the new year as I aim to grow my channel - thank you for sharing! 👏👏
Wow, i just finished the whole vdeo-excellent message at the perfect moment i needed the reminder of what i believe- Its aboit giving! Not taking!!!❤❤❤❤
Small channels stay strong 💪 ❤
Loved this thank you! Deserved a new follower❤
Great news for a burnout 😅 Ill have to take a break from my work to let this sink in ❤
This is a really good video, with some great advice. I have had a channel for over 5 years and was doing all sorts of random stuff. It never really went anywhere as I probably didn’t focus on the right things. I’ve just launched a new channel that is finance and business focused as I have years of experience doing that. Probably not as much fun for me, but certainly more use to the world.
Which camera do you use?
Great breakdown of the journey on TH-cam. I think you've found a great way to demonstrate and articulate the experience of a lot of us content creators. Thank you.
Bro how do you only have 2k subs, the quality is insane
Nicely explained, man.
Great insight! Will apply
To all my small creators like myself, keep your head up, keep it fun, and continue grinding. The numbers will come ❤️💪
