Like 136 for you from Mr. Garry and Mrs. Betty. We bought The Ole Church in Newfoundland with 5 Acres and yes, we live in the church. Lots happening, much like you!
That’s really cool. Thanks for stopping by our channel.
Well done sir!
Thanks!
I found mosquito repellent wrist and ankle twists that really work keeping them off.
I bet it’s great for ticks too!
@@canadianahomestead i’m not sure but I believe eucalyptus essential oil mixture sprayed on clothing keeps ticks away.
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
😄
I love your Chanel. Your house is looking great.
Thanks so much! This made us smile.
Congratulations on accomplishing the one side of massive roofing all on your own. Love that you still find time to make your build fun while finishing up the dormer. What a huge difference the completed roof makes. Especially enjoyed your muffin delivery.
Thank you so much! Yes I enjoyed the muffin too. Haha!
awesome
Thanks so much!
Thankyou 😊
Our pleasure 😊
This is why I don't care for kit builds. The instructions are never good enough. Wonder how they intended it to be done.
Just after we finished our roof we reported back on the process to Avrame and the roofing company created a very thorough and easy to follow instruction manual specific to these homes. Thankful that other people will at least benefit from our learning experience!
Looking good, but I do not envy you the amount of clean up around the house you have to go. Keep up the good work.
So much work left to do. And clean up. We do try to clean as we go as much as possible but with just one of us most of the time it’s so hard to stay on top of it!! Slowly but surely.
Awesome work as always, Rob! At 11:55, how did you cut the 2nd sheet from bottom that cuts through the dormer roof? Did you finally have enough sheets of all sizes? At some velux you had to use two shorter sheets in place of 1 long to let the velux apron come out. So you must have consumed more short sheets than what looked like by the pattern. But you had enough of them, right?
We did have enough from scraps at the very end of the roofing. At the time when we got the kit they had just hired a new material sourcing manager so we had a couple of things that were off by a small amount and Avrame sent us replacements when needed but in this case we had enough scraps at the very end to do the dormer. I think we were short by something like 4 pieces to have had the proper 10% extra or whatever. But it was no problem in the end and they worked with us to sort it out.
@@canadianahomestead thank you Rob! As a country manager I would feel awful if a customer ran out of roof sheets. Planning skylight windows is tedious both in terms of the number and sizes of steel and avoiding unwanted alignment - too close to a dormer ors sheet seams happening on the velux sides. Would you recommend doing velux installation "on the go" while putting steel to allow oneself to play a few cm/inches right or left?
I did do our skylights before steel but when I felt it was too close I stopped and measured some things and then put the window as close to the truss (away from the dormer) as I could go.

👏👏👏
You such a tallent and great design, I remember you s working during snow ❄️, but it turn out great progress, I could see there is a bright path to success, great channel , 👍
Thank you so much! We really appreciate it. So thankful to have a roof over our heads for the next snowfall!!
What??? No snow! Wow! Kidding! Looks great and I love the colour that you chose! Waited to the 4th video to comment! To not be repetitive! Take care!
Thank you!! Hahaha yes finally no snow!!! We were worried for a second that by the time we caught up on these videos it was going to be snowing again!
Great job! The finished roof makes all the difference.
It really does!! Starting to feel like a house! Even on the inside!
The roof looks really awesome.
Thanks so much!
🇳🇴👍👍
😍
I love watching your videos! Is there any reason why you used strapping on the roof instead of sheathing? Thank you!
Thanks so much! This version is the European model where the strapping allows for a vented air space to the roof. The sheathing is on the inside and holds in the insulation with the vapour barrier on the inside of that.
Your new home is looking Beautiful....I love the roof color....When you are working alone there is so much time in a day...
Thanks so much. Yes, so true! Although when I have just 1 extra person it seems to go 3 times faster. It’s a trade off! I enjoy working to music and getting in the groove.
🇳🇴👍👍
Thanks!
Great video #2. Love your approach on this build “what’s the fun in that”. Those sped up times with you scaling the roof line are very entertaining.
Thank you! Yes it didn’t feel so high when I was up there. I figured worst case if I fell it wouldn’t be much different than sliding down the stairs.
@@canadianahomestead add 25 years it feels different lol

😎😎😎
Videos back to back to back? Don’t threaten me with a good time. 😆 Nice work mate.
Haha just so much fun
I feel like a wimp now! lol I just built a small awning/roof over my sleeping bunkie door, in 30 deg C, not -16 and I found it difficult. :) Great job fellow Ontarian.
Thanks man! It wasn't easy but well worth it. I'm right there with you these days though suffering in the 30 degree weather! Its sometimes worse and sometimes better than the cold.
awesome guys!
Thanks Maxim!
That is -a lot- of horizontals. Why so many? I can see near the bottom where you could get a large snow load, but once you’re up a ways…
We were thinking the same thing, but the instructions for the steel roofing showed strapping this close together. Plus, there was more than enough strapping in the kit.
Can you build the doom to the other side , that ‘d be great, beautiful house .
Thank you! Sorry I’m misunderstanding, what are you meaning by doom?
Ya skylights are notorious for developing leaks.
Hopefully not for us! Haha
ohhhhhh yummy thumb
looking amazing guys ..... gonna be nice to get all that snow out of the house eh?
Well in real time the snow is gone!! We were going to rent a snow melt but the sun did the job for us! You’ll see in a couple of videos!! Playing catch up on our footage!!
Wow! Those skylights will make such a difference inside with the light they will provide! Can’t wait to see the metal go on! Wondering what colour you chose.
Currently editing that video!! Its pretty! I can tell you that much :)
Looking great
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi awesome guys!
just a small correction: weather barrier not vapour barrier. The latter will go inside at a later stage.
Hey, thanks!
Weird to watch this snowy scene in June! It’s looking really good and look forward to seeing the upcoming videos! Take care!
Thank you!! Yes. We underestimated how difficult it would be to build and produce videos at the same time!!
Great video ! Man you have came a long way even with all the snow to sweep every few days, wow it's been a lot of work but looking great 👍So nice when it's all closed in, that's a lot of wood !
Thanks! You too! So thankful that in real time the snow is gone!!
Looking terrific ... lovin' your channel!
Glad you enjoy it!
Really Neat!
Thanks so much friends!!

"What a Genius" 🤣 Love it!!
😂
Just discovered your channel. Have watched the first six. Nice to see a couple of young people working so hard for their dreams. Best Wishes for the rest of your endeavor and for the growth of your channel. We are in Northern Ontario as well, an hour west of Sudbury on a 140 acre farm!!
Awesome! Thank you! Welcome aboard! We’ll be in that area this summer for camp ABK with our kids!
Yes Mother Nature waits for no one ! But the timing was good for all the ground work it went pretty well, I watched you struggle when all the snow came when you were trying to build, A lot of cold fingers but you got it up :) With spring here it will come together so much faster !
Yes! Actually timing works out to be doing outdoor finishings in the summer and leaving all the inside stuff for the next time it gets cold haha. Hopeful to be working indoors next winter!
I’m so impressed what you did during cold season , the house look beautiful surrounding with an amazing view , could you make another doom from the other side ? It’ll help you more comfortable, great channel ❤.
Thanks so much! What do you mean by another doom? We appreciate you watching along!
Beautiful Family
You are so kind. Thank you!
It’s great to have winter behind you and to be able to get the house dried in! Looking forward to your future videos! Take care!
The snowy season is over, now for a season of mud!
Yes thank you both! Definitely thankful to be out of the snow! 😊
We did move all our OSB and anything else by hand anyway :) You were lucky with the pipes. I like the building in the snow shots. I'm wondering which is worse, to build in the snow or to build in the sun with 30+C degrees
We’ve heard that there’s often times a lot of moving stuff by hand. And yes, very thankful that our plumbing wasn’t broken. I’m sure it would have been repairable, but really glad we didn’t have to go through it. The snow build has had positives and negatives. We will see how the summer months treat us soon enough. Hahaha
Ah the joys of building in the winter. Moved to New Zealand 10 years ago from Ottawa and have not seen ice or snow since then. Don't miss it one bit, and about the only good thing about winter framing is you don't have to put up with mosquitoes or black flies. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much! You’re right about the bugs. We’re about to hit that season and I can’t say I’m looking forward to it. But New Zealand… now that sounds ideal!
That was your best video yet! Loved the spring opening sequence! Happy to see it all worked out after that osb dumped! Looking good! Take care!
Glad you enjoyed it! Trying out longer form videos because it seems people are willing to stick around. We appreciate it :)
Great! Very lucky on that OSB. 😅
So thankful it wasn’t worse!!
