What about a wind and solar setup? Those days or weeks without much sunshine might be windy days, as well, you may have windy conditions at night and can be storing 24/7.

So far we haven't been able to find a good option for wind because our clearing is only a few acres with trees surrounding so we'd have to have a really tall tower which.... is not currently in the budget. But we're working with the company who is doing our solar and they're just getting into wind energy options so maybe in a few years when the budget is there we'll be able to do something with wind!
I found mosquito repellent wrist and ankle twists that really work keeping them off.
