Congratulations on accomplishing the one side of massive roofing all on your own. Love that you still find time to make your build fun while finishing up the dormer. What a huge difference the completed roof makes. Especially enjoyed your muffin delivery.
You such a tallent and great design, I remember you s working during snow ❄️, but it turn out great progress, I could see there is a bright path to success, great channel , 👍
So much work left to do. And clean up. We do try to clean as we go as much as possible but with just one of us most of the time it’s so hard to stay on top of it!! Slowly but surely.
Awesome work as always, Rob! At 11:55, how did you cut the 2nd sheet from bottom that cuts through the dormer roof? Did you finally have enough sheets of all sizes? At some velux you had to use two shorter sheets in place of 1 long to let the velux apron come out. So you must have consumed more short sheets than what looked like by the pattern. But you had enough of them, right?
We did have enough from scraps at the very end of the roofing. At the time when we got the kit they had just hired a new material sourcing manager so we had a couple of things that were off by a small amount and Avrame sent us replacements when needed but in this case we had enough scraps at the very end to do the dormer. I think we were short by something like 4 pieces to have had the proper 10% extra or whatever. But it was no problem in the end and they worked with us to sort it out.
@@canadianahomestead thank you Rob! As a country manager I would feel awful if a customer ran out of roof sheets. Planning skylight windows is tedious both in terms of the number and sizes of steel and avoiding unwanted alignment - too close to a dormer ors sheet seams happening on the velux sides. Would you recommend doing velux installation "on the go" while putting steel to allow oneself to play a few cm/inches right or left?
I did do our skylights before steel but when I felt it was too close I stopped and measured some things and then put the window as close to the truss (away from the dormer) as I could go.
Did you get any troubles getting permits to build an AFrame in your area? We also live in Ontario and in our area we cannot find a drafter/designer that will draft an AFrame Plan. They all want to overengineer it with extra beams that are absolutely not necessary and put pony walls up etc. I looked at the AVRAME site - unfortunately their plans weren't exactly what would suit our family, which is why we wanted it custom designed. We also worry that with kits, the quality is not the same?
Hey! Sorry just saw this. If you want to email us it might be easier than talking via TH-cam. The quality of our kit was 10000x the quality of building materials available in Canada! The European limber is so clean and perfect. No cuts with bark or edges of trees unlike what we find here. Additionally the windows and doors are all triple pane and very high end design. Our stairs are custom oak. We’ve had many people come and look at the build and be blown away by the quality. The way we see it, the word “kit” might be off-putting for some but think of it more as a custom European home package. 😊 Additionally, because these kits have been put up dozens of times in Ontario, there are a few vetted engineers who stamp the drawings and approve them easily. Hope this helps! You can email us at canadianahomestead@gmail.com and we’d be happy to have a call with you if you want more info!
Great job! The finished roof makes all the difference.
It really does!! Starting to feel like a house! Even on the inside!
What??? No snow! Wow! Kidding! Looks great and I love the colour that you chose! Waited to the 4th video to comment! To not be repetitive! Take care!
Thank you!! Hahaha yes finally no snow!!! We were worried for a second that by the time we caught up on these videos it was going to be snowing again!

The roof looks really awesome.
Thanks so much!
Looking good, but I do not envy you the amount of clean up around the house you have to go. Keep up the good work.
