    Great video. After watching your last two videos Im wondering what the advantage of the trem system is on this guitar. It seems like a nightmare to use properly. Looking forward to video three.

    • @j-man9457
      @j-man9457  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@BUCKNUT1919 hey thanks man, much appreciated... We'll the advantages (in theory) are as follows:
      1. Trem allows for extreme up and down movement because it's floating and never in contact with the guitar's body.
      2. The strings are locked at the bridge and at the nut so it will never go out of tune.
      So on a typical guitar, the string is wrapped around a tuner post, routed under a string tree, passes through a nut and at the other end is wrapped around a ball end which is typically inserted in a string through the body ferrule. So here a string can stretch at the wraps around the post, and at the wraps near the ball end, it can get pinched in the nut and / or under the string tree, all of which cause some tuning issues if not properly set up. The Floyd Rose term eliminates all of these issues. Strings are locked at the nut, and also at the saddle and the ball ends are cut off prior to inserting into the saddle. So in Theory since there's nothing to interfere with the string's pitch between the nut and the saddle, you have a guitar that is always in tune!
      However for that to be the case, everything from neck relief, fret heights, action, intonation, and spring tension, need to be perfect. If not it's a nightmare!
      For me give me a simple Tele any day of the week and I'm happy hahaha!

    Just wanted to let you know that I watched both videos, and even though many may not "agree" on your methods, you are doing it right. The only way to fix that floyd is to dowel and re drill. Then tap in the posts with a rubber mallet or hammer (preferably). The issue is, that body is probably basswood (weaker wood), and the inserts on a floyd special are made from cheap(er) metals than an original floyd. I've done probably a hundred of these repairs over the years, especially on older guitars (Kramers and Jacksons, etc) where they used the larger wood screws instead of the inserts. They almost always fail and push forward towards the nut. Also the tension being off on the springs didn't help the issue. While I may have done things a bit differently, I know you are probably doing this for your friend, and trying to not spend money or just use what you have, which I totally understand. As long as you drill it out straight, it should be as good as new, and last for quite a while. With the shim in, your action will be better, but keep in mind, now you have to play with string height (and more tuning, especially with new strings). Tip for you, if the screws are wobbling in the inserts, wrap some tape around them to tighten them up. that will help with tuning, as well as the posts and inserts moving. Usually I would replace them, and buy the original hardened steel posts, but that will work and should last a while. You also should have enough play in that neck cavity to align the strings, if not, check to see if the nut is on straight and level with both sides of the fingerboard. I've seen these come installed uneven from the factory. If so, dowel, re drill and set it back in evenly. Best of luck, if you need any help let me know.

    • @j-man9457
      @j-man9457  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@jjcollins hey thanks so much man! Much appreciated! Posts are redrilled and re inserted and all good. These have extremely fine threads and therefore have no play unlike the many Gibson TOM posts with the coarse threads that seem to rattle to no end hahaha! Yes I use plumbers tape on those and it works well. Goes in smoothly, with no play and is still thin enough that the threads slice through it so you still have metal to metal contact for the ground wire to do it's job haha! Nut is on straight. Issue was the screws holes in the body were off by a hair and also too small. Screws were threading into the body eliminating any adjustments at the neck pocket. I drilled them out and it's all good now. Perfect string alignment.
      Vid 3 tonight. If Intonation goes well I'll have it dialed in with super nice action!
      Thanks alot for the advice and for the offer for help!

      @@Johnny.D most times, the body holes are too small and the screws bite into the body as well as the neck. Just drill out the body holes to a size slightly larger than the diameter of the screw and then you'll have adjustment options to line up the 2 E strings

    • @Johnny.D
      @Johnny.D 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @j-man9457 Yes, as a guitar builder, I am aware of the issues. I always make my body holes the overall size of the thread the screw clears the Dia.
      When the pocket is designed and routed correctly, there is zero side play. It is critical to be aligned straight with the neck from the start.
