Yes, I saw that video. It was fun to watch!
@@ErikCalderon definitely a interesting series.
Rokas has come a long way since he started posting videos!
As a man I have no shame in admitting that I don't think I could take Ronda Rousey or Angela Lee in a fight... 😮🎉❤😂
Totally agree with you!
I hate buckeys! Clean bathrooms, but always packed. Almost always better to find a Mexican restaurant or bbq a mile off the highway - probably cheaper too
It's like Disney land! Not sure what kind of secret sauce they use......
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing Sensei 😊
My pleasure!
yes, nobody touch or miss the target completely
Not sure I understand…
If you HAVE to just choose one for JUST street fighting, I'd go with combat Sambo because it gives you a bit of everything and like wrestling actually gives you the grit and pressure of a real fight.
I need to look into Combat Sambo...Maybe I can do a Aikido vs Sambo video......
State/physiology/body-language are crucial, not just for martial arts, but even business and dating ...
Yes, I totally agree with you.
I've only taken one aikido class, but seriously what is the chance of using martial arts in a street fight unless you're a cop or bouncer? By being aware, avoiding bad spots, and de-escalating the chance of being in a fight is low. Plus you can get taser or spray as precaution. If the bad guy has buddies or weapons no martial arts will save you. If you do get in a unarmed fight most likely it will be against some untrained guy throwing haymakers. Trained martial artists are smart enough to avoid street fights.
Very true!
By mixing.
Aikido training is really helpful with aging issues. Looking forward to the next training session.
Protip: ya cant
Ha, loved that!
Unless you are a against a toddler , you should literally avoid any fighting if you coming in with Aikido. Lol
You think so?
Really helpful Erik. Thanks
I'm glad you thought it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Great suggestions
Thanks for watching!
Do they know ahead of time when to fall, or is there a signal?
Not sure I understand your question, can you elaborate?
I about 2 weeks into Aikido and how they do it is Sensei and a senior student demonstrate what you will be doing in a move.
Yes, that's the paradigm of the class. The Sensei will demonstrate a technique in front of the class and then everyone will work on that technique. The Sensei will walk around and help students understand the particular movements they are working on.
And aikido does not use your opponents force against them requires your opponent to flip himself and be super compliant matter in fact you could learn to flip people without even touching them just pull out a gun and tell him to go flip them self if not you’re gonna shoot Not to mention the founder of aikido had dementia and was suffering from severe brain damage Just like One of his students a.k.a. Steven Seagal
Thank you. You made me laugh! That was funny!!!! But so true, well, I didn't personally know the founder, but knew people that knew him and said he was an amazing individual. Steven is surrounded by a lot of controversy. I did almost quit Aikido because it was too complaint and I was asked to flip for people....until I found a man that was a true embodiment of the techniques that worked....
Aikido works on petite women and on children and the elderly it really works wonders on the terminally ill so if you work in a daycare facility or an old folks home this martial art would be for you it really works wonders if you mix it with hula dancing
So True!
Awesome video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. My next video is titled, "How to Avoid a Street Fight." I think this topic is interesting and something relevant to everyone that needs to be out and about...
Unfortunately dealing with my personally I will cross train in Aikido and MMA
I sometimes train mma to cross train a bit.
@@ErikCalderon And I am finding out Aikido works if a person goes over why the founder became a pacifistI it easier for me to learn stuff if I reject competition
@@AlphonsoFrett-xz6pi I heard a story from someone that knew the founder that he became a pacifist after a good friend of his was stabbed to death from bar fight. But totally agree with you, if you reject competition Aikido tends to work better.
I have see the " problem with Aikido" 🤔 however when I am on the B.J.J mat I learned the philosophy works for me a lot " hard practical karate philosophy did not" so I cross train in both
I believe if one learns kickboxing or wrestling then Aikido it will work
Focus on everything you do and every moment of the practice.Observe yousellf-your body movements, your balance, your partner. How he(she) interacts with you.Focus on distance, position.Fill the difference between the different partners.
Very nice advice!
I trained in Okinawan Karate for 22 yrs. overseas, stopped training over a decade. I'm 51 and I enrolled in Shotokan and will start on the 3rd of Sept. Shorin ryu and shotokan though are both Karate are both different. It will be challenge... challenge accepted.
Exciting! Enjoy your journey.
Thanks for this honest assessment of how aikido can help with self-defense, and how to look for more well-rounded approaches. Awesome!
I’m glad that was helpful. When it comes to self defense I really think everything should be taken into account. It’s not a simple matter.
@@ErikCalderon You are so right
My next video will be, "how to avoid a street fight with Aikido in your 50's"
MMA actually has a good deal of rules, the NJ state athletics board helped draft them after PA banned the events in the 80s over the lack of rules in toughman competitions....
Yep, I do remember the very first UFC fights. They said they had no rules, Even though, then, they had a framed setting that was very controlled. It was very interesting to watch though.
I love using Tai Sabaki while navigating among people on a crowded train. It's not a street fight, but a real-life application of Aikido ;)
I used to do that on the crowded Tokyo subways when I lived in Japan. It was fun!
as a woman, learning martial arts gave me a ton more confidence, but I agree, the best advice is to avoid fights and de-escalate as a first approach
Yes, it's best to avoid, but the confidence is a powerful tool that helps avoid fights.
Plus I am learning B.J.J and Judo and the principles overlap
Idk. You definitely have stories where aikido has been useful.
Yes, I sure do, maybe I'll share some in a future episode!
Knowing how to defend yourself makes you confident
But you need to be careful because confidence can get you in trouble
Hopefully, I will never be in the situation of a street fight. I can use the awareness to avoid conflicts or being targeted.
Me too, I hope you'll never be in that kind of situation!
🙏🏼
You're welcome!
I love this motivational tony Robbins style videos 🎉❤
Thank you, glad you liked it!
I've heard that Chuck Norris is still training frequently and he's in his 70s I believe...
Yep, I've heard the same. I'm hoping for the same thing....
I believe it is a therapy technique called exposure therapy which slowly desensitizes people over time to their phobias...
That’s how I overcame my fear of heights.
I started Muay Thai at 38 and a few years later I am thankful to say I am serious injury free... 🎉❤
Congratulations! Please stay injury free.
Great video. Focus is super important for bouldering too!
Absolutely! It's helped me a lot on Top Roping as well!
Thanks Erik. Such a good reminder
Glad you enjoyed it
Good advice
Thank you!
lol good thumbnail
Yea, right! I had fun making this one!
Concentration is one of those things that, if you can build will help tremendously in life!
You can always come to my class and work on your concentration with me!
Very important skill
Yes, I hope I’ve done a good job developing it.
That;s interesting Erik. Thanks!
Yea, right! It's amazing how patience can really help us be more calm and centered in life.
@@ErikCalderon I am so learning patience right now!! Yes, I agree
Its is a very undervalued skill
Yes, thank you!
Sir, You said that this work out should take approximately 30 minute. Are you sure about the above?😊😊😊 After doing the routine for a time, 30 minutes may be enough time. For me, 30 minutes is not enough at this time. Eventually, I will do better ! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!
For me this is just a warmup, after my warmup I usually train Aikido for 90 mins. For a total of 2 hours.
Excellent......thanks Great Sensie.......ouuusss.
You're welcome. I hope it's helpful!
great video!!
easy to understand
@@AnnSearsOfficial Thank you!
This is a great warmup!
To do everyday!
You can expect -Bullshido - Ineffective moves - Getting beat up in real fights.
Yep, you can probably expect that in any martial art....
@@ErikCalderon i agree no martial arts is perfect or complete every martial art has its good points and bad points..
@@richierich107 I'm actually working on a new episode called Aikido vs Street fight. I talk about some of those bad points.
Thank you senpai, it’s meaningful
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful.
you never know how you will react to change. It's good to have a sport to fall back on for the endorphins and routine!
So true!
Nice video! Being adaptable to change is such an important skill. No one knows what will happen in their lives
Whether it's good or bad, we just don't know and even good change can be very stressful.
I am trying to accept changes in life. For some changes, I can feel myself resisting. it is not always easy, but it may turn out to be a positive outcome.
Yea, I don't think it's ever easy, that's why Aikido training can help!
