I enjoy your videos and was a little bummed to see Ridge Racer Type 4 get so much focus. I have always found it a bit troubling that R4 is so popular as a "Ridge Racer" game since it never felt like Ridge Racer to me. The gameplay and music were subdued, and it was the start of when Namco games started to feel "cold" to me. Compare Ace Combat 2 and 3 as an example of this. That is not to say R4 is not without its positives, the fireworks during the final round on Shooting Hoops were memorable, and I did enjoy the track called The Ride. I did not enjoy needing to remember to select it for every race, ha ha. Anyway, I was overjoyed when Ridge Racer V returned to the real roots of Ridge and Rage Racer. Hopefully someday I will see a video from you on those titles! Have a great one and hope you can play some ICO!

Thanks for the kind words about ICO! It is one of the best games I have ever played and I am so glad I randomly learned about it from a demo disc back in the day. If you do not have them, I highly recommend tracking down the Japanese PS2 or PS3 versions of ICO and SotC. They did some nifty things with the manuals on PS2 and the Japanese PS3 versions were perfect, if not smaller, reproductions.

PlayStation just hasn't been the same since closing Japan Studio and relocating their HQ to America. Don't get me wrong. I still like Sony games like Uncharted, God of War, and Spiderman, but not JUST that style of game. Playstation used to have a lot of variety, but now they just seem to care about "prestigious" games. I miss the A and AA games Playstation used to develop and/or publish. Where are games like Parappa, Vib Ribbon, and Motorstorm? Stellar Blade kinda gives me that feeling of the old Playstation, but we need more of it.

    • @Vynsent

I gotta agree with you my friend! With games like Stellar Blade dropping recently, and with retro gaming becoming so popular, I’m hoping that development studios and their higher ups will begin to take note of that, and revert things back to a more simplified styles of games. Sometimes less is more!

This video was awesome! I remember buying The Getaway near launch. It's so good. I can't tell you how many times I played the demo prior to release. I think The Getaway gets some negative feedback because people didn't know you could lean on the wall to recover some of your health. Not having 100% or near 100% health definitely makes the game harder. I can't wait for part 2. Keep up the good work!

@@Vynsent Not great lol, those pics you showed were the early PS1 development builds before they shifted to PS2..

Something I'd love to do would be create a studio and physically re-release old near-forgotten games like "Wild 9" and/or even outright remake them. Beings *extremely* respectful and faithful the original I.P.. Be it the characters, lore, gameplay, and so on. Really something I'd personally love to do someday. There is a lot of fun, goofy, and interesting characters/art/lore of this game that is a dang shame nothing ever got done with it. And if someone beats me to Wild 9 before I ever get/got the chance, there's still PLENTY of others out there, in addition to my own ideas.

I love that idea! They could even make them into a little collection, including earthworm Jim 😅 I would buy!

Man you really put a well developed video together here. The Getaway and especially Black Monday are favorites of mine to this day. Thanks for that taste of nostalgia
