So whether you've never experienced one for yourself, or are looking to reminisce on the times that you have. Online gaming has killed couch coop & lan parties, the internet & social media killed the magazines and the convenience of digital downloads and purchases killed the pre releases and physical media, its sad - but we'll always have these memories! Thanks for the great video (& soundtrack) hit me right in the feels!
It's sad to see those times go, but like you said! We were lucky enough to experience them, and for that I'm eternally grateful :) Thank you for watching by the way! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
No doubt in my mind I didn’t even have trouble remembering that date. H2. I miss midnight releases. I miss that part of my childhood.
It was such a fun time 😁 Kids today really have no idea!
I absolutely miss this.
Such great times, hopefully they will make a comeback!
I still have DV tapes of my weekend camp for the PS2. My buddy, Artie, and I threw down some beanbags and a cooler to camp for our console so we could score our systems. Good times. Camped for my DC and Xbox as well, along with attending just about every major midnight launch. Even showed up early for the release for Doom 3. I miss midnight launches.
That’s legendary my friend! You should consider uploading that PS2 launch footage into TH-cam, I would personally love to see it 😁 But that’s amazing man, we were definitely lucky to be gaming in that era. There was nothing like it!
@Vynsent Yeah I've been meaning to upload it to YT, I'll link it here when it's up on another channel.
@@rabbitinthem00n Please do! I love anything that captures that time period. You've got a real piece of history with that!
Yo! Just discovered your channel recently. Love the passion and sincerity put into all your videos. It didn't really hit me until watching this video that midnight releases weren't really a thing anymore. Which is crazy to think about. There certainly was a unique and magical feeling about waiting in line for a game that you had only seen promotional art or ads for, no per-judgements or critiques, only hype, and those last few moments before midnight were such an incredible feeling. Even more so, was the feeling of going home and loading up that game at 1am and discovering a new world you've been eagerly anticipating to experience; especially if it had multiplayer like Halo 2, Halo 3, MW2, etc. and you could play online with your friends and any new friends you made at the midnight release! Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Thank you so much, it really means the world to me 😁 It was an incredibly special time, I just knew I had to make a video about it at some point! I’m just glad we were able to experience the tradition while it was at it’s peak!
The only midnight launch I ever went to was for the Nintendo Wii. My two friends and I stood in line in cold November weather for a few hours outside of our local target store. My one buddy and I were fortunate to get one. Nobody had pre orders so I was so happy to get a ticket. I think the 5 people behind us got one as well but the people behind them didn't get any. My other friend didn't want one. He was there as moral support or replacement for a bathroom break or supply runner if we needed anything to drink or eat. It was such a blast. Someone inline brought Monopoly along so a couple of us played but it didn't last long. They were starting to count people in line. I bought the system Zelda twilight princess and classic controller. Such great memories. Awesome video my dude.
I love it! Such a beautiful memory :') Gotta love the energy on nights like those, everyone so excited. Brings me back! But thank you for watching, I'm very glad you enjoyed the video :)
Another great video, such a buzz driving up at 11pm to collect at the stroke of midnight. Like going to your first concert 😂.
It was another level of excitement, I swear 😅 Such great memories! Thank you for watching by the way 😁❤️
Gaming used to be so communal. Miss these days. I didn't do too many midnight releases but had to go for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 back in 2011. Great video
I have to agree! The community back then felt so much more exciting. It’s taken a much darker turn the past decade it feels like 🥲 Thank you for watching though! Very glad that you enjoyed 😁
i remember going for black ops 2 and gta5 at my local blockbuster, really was the best time of my childhood
Ahhh, the best! I miss blockbuster so much, hopefully they can make some kind of resurgence in the future, the people want it!
Last one (and only one) I went to was MK11. I'm not even sure there were any since. I still have the sick Scorpion face scarf thing they were giving away as a preorder bonus, got some good use out of it during the lockdowns. :)
...like tears in rain...
Ahhh, Was it packed?! I'm sure everyone was hype!
Let’s go!!! My sweet boi coming at us with the much needed nostalgia. Man idk if I should cry or be grateful for the experiences. Or both….
I did both :') Thank you brother!
Software Etc forever the goat!
I never was able to find one in my hometown, but they looked awesome! I can tell they really had true gamers running those stores. 😁
Unfortunately, I've never had the possibility to experience all this but it's still fun hearing about these experiences.
It was a magical thing my friend! Hopefully they make a comeback for future games. I hear GTA 6 will have one!
We had a whole ass launch party at walmart, I brought a tiny TV and we played Gears and Guitar Hero for hours
Sounds like such a good time 🥲 Wish I could build a Time Machine and be there for it!!
This video hit the nostalgia hard… Last minute release I went to was Smash Ultimate. It was just a group of ~30 people at a gamestop, there was a smash 4 tournament, and they put the game awards on the tv. People went crazy when they announced Joker for smash live at the game awards. Now I usually just download games bc even if there is a midnight launch nobody shows up
It really was a different time! That’s dope you got to experience that though 😁 Would have loved to seen a smash release! Hopefully we get a big launch for GTA 6!
The way you convey your genuine passion and overall feelings are very magic itself. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you very much! I do my best to transfer those emotions in my narration 😁 Very glad you enjoyed!
Rdr2 and spider-man ps4 were my only and probably my last midnight releases to attend
Ahh, I’m sure they both had to be pretty stacked! I’m glad you got to experience it while it was still hot my friend 😁 I hear they may possibly be doing one for GTA 6 in the future, but we’ll see!
I remember being a kid and hearing about ppl lining up for black ops or gta that sounded crazy to me back then I couldn’t imagine waiting outside a store all night camping out all for a game but honestly now that I’m older that sounds really cool finally copping the video game you’ve been waiting for, grabbing some grub, and playing all night. I miss the hype of being excited to buy physical copies of a video game I have a 360 and ps2 so when I buy games for my consoles I still get that feeling I once felt as a kid I be looking at the manuals at work just itching to play 😭
It really was so exciting back then 😮💨 I still do the same whenever I get physical games nowadays. Nothing can hype you up like a good manual read 😅
@@Vynsent for sure man 😌
Man I was too young to be part of the best generation in gaming they better make a time machine
Also I fucking love this style of content great job man
So glad you enjoyed! Thank you for watching 😁 Hopefully things will start to pivot back to these simpler times in gaming. For now I’ll do my best to cover the history of what’s been lost in time 😁
@@Vynsent you got that right
This deserves millions of views the good times man
I really appreciate that! Let’s hope it does well soon 😁 And those really were the days my friend! Miss them, but I’m just glad to have experienced them 😌
I am 33 years old and a fan of all these consoles.
I miss this because "We Are All As One." Back then.
Because of social media, fake influencers, scripted contents all of these instant gratification makes people toxic.
This is the great time to be alive, born in the 1990's.
It was a phenomenal time, my friend! I definitely can see how much we've drifted apart from each other as a society, it's very sad!
I went to the midnight release of Tears of the Kingdom here in Mexico City. I'd never gone to a midnight release before, and I don't think I will again. I waited in line 4 hours and only got my copy at around 3:00am. I drove home and boot it up, cuz I had to AT LEAST play it a little if I waited all night. However, I kept falling asleep even as I held the stick forward. I don't think I even got 20 minutes in before I had to call it quits for the night. It would have been 10 times had I simply bought the game the morning after, cuz a game like that ain't gonna run out of stock anyway.
Ahhh, that definitely is a bummer my friend! I had a similar situation at the GTA 4 launch. It took much longer than expected for me to get the game, and once I finally got home I ended up playing for about an hour and passing out on the floor by my xbox 🤣 Luckily my parents let me stay home the next day though, so I spent that whole day playing 😁
Haven't every been to a midnight release (they were rare in the Netherlands), but I have been around in the times they were a thing. It's sad these kind of events aren't really around anymore.
I have to agree my friend! Hopefully somehow they will make their way back around into the culture! 🥹
11:46 oh! a goofy Little Big Planet mascot(Sackboy) for the event!
He's a celebrity in my book! xD
Loving the content bro
Thanks a bunch! I'm glad you're enjoying! Got lots more on the way 😁
I was #114 at the Sony Metreon PS2 launch and it was so much fun! Meeting single serving friends and being interviewed by tech tv. The PS3 was equally as fun! I was even #1 at the PSP Launch. But when the PS4 launched all fun went away. PS5 launch I just waited in my car for UPS.
Maaaan, that would have been a dream for me at that time! Tech TV?! I was obsessed 😂 That’s so awesome though man, I really wish I could have experienced a console launch. I was typically about a year behind on releases, but I definitely made my way to any game launch that I could 😁 It’s sad to see them with less hype, like they are nowadays.

Really wish I could've attended the Halo 3 launch! That had to be amazing
@@Vynsent Yeah, it was quite the experience. My friends and I stayed up all night and beat 4 player legendary campaign. We all skipped school that same day and just played multiplayer
never experienced this but I experienced launch day in the morning
Aye, that's always exciting too!
since i'm not from US, games are launch in the morning. it's fun, met a lot of people! really nice video btw!@@Vynsent
@@user-gw5hb7tv5b That's pretty cool! Honestly wish they would have more things like that here 😁 But thank you very much my friend! I'm glad that you enjoyed 😄
more great videos to come!@@Vynsent
i remember when i download some days before the launch Dark Soul 2 on 360rgh, and share some pics with a DS1 chat... people on chat ... make a video about leaks...
Ahhh, you were the plug for those waiting on the game to drop!
Up until 2010 games felt less disposable. I don’t know what happened to devs and publishers, but games had something special… only a very few games nowadays have it.
In my opinion, the problem with games nowadays is that most of their creative control is ran by higher up’s. Which means the devs can’t put the look and care that’s needed to make a great game when they have some executive telling them to pump the game full of micro transactions and release it half finished. The triple A industry is suffering greatly due to those types of practices! But luckily we still have amazing studios like Capcom or Square putting out phenomenal games. Also the indie developers!
2008 I was 9 damn I always miss out and I’m from San Jose 🤣
Haha hopefully we can bring back the midnight release for future games!
@@Vynsent that would be dope honestly can’t wait for you’re next video it’s gonna be dope
@@Johndeadmen I appreciate that my friend! Can't wait to drop it 😁
Man, I will never experience this.
I pray that physical copies will make their resurgence, and we will once again stand outside of a Game store in excitement my friend :')
