Concrete base and concrete panel garage build in UK
มุมมอง 54K3 ปีที่แล้ว

Having moved in to a new house recently, Im trying to refurb the old garage and Im currently struggling quite a bit to get it watertight in particular between the walls and floor as it has a big gap between them. Any advices there? Think I could pick your brain over it? Great job btw 🎉
So i was thinking of doing this exact same thing on my garage. It's just ... the plasterboard ... can it hold my tools or heavy equipmemt if i want to hang them on the wall ? ( workmate, lawmower, etc )
Great video. Thanks!
How wide are the concrete panel sections?
Hi, great job. I am about to start a similar project - I'm just curious - what are the dimensions of your garage.
Ps how did you fix the timber battens to the wall
i dont see any chinese guys workin out there
How did you fix the timber batons and what size are they please?
excellent, what was the total cost
How heavy are the panels
I am aiming to do the same conversion -- great idea
Looks like you take a lot of pride and care!
I'm wondering if there's a damp membrane under that concrete floor.
So we have a fairly old concrete panel detached garage on our property and wanna convert it into a music rehearsal space (or at least make it water tight at the bottom for our music equipment which is currently fighting for its life there. And there is ZERO way we could afford a pro refurb. And this video has given me WAY TOO MUCH confidence that with a bit of planning and a LOT of learning we could so do this ourselves…. My partners dad is an engineer who rebuilds cars and stuff… and his stepdad is quite handy- so at least we have some back up if we cock it up
Sounds great! Let me know if I can help!
@@No5Workshop oh my goodness if we could book a consultation or a plan with you that would be epic! The cost of getting a company to refurbish our garage is insane- I love DIY and would love to do it! Your work is awesome and super inspiring!
Cool video! Very interesting to see how you did this.
Looks brilliant - you did a great job. I have a similar garage but really old - the concrete panels are pretty uneven. I only really use it for storing stuff I'm not too bothered about. It has an asbestos roof so I'm not sure it could be turned into the kind of workshop you've created 😀
In 2021 got my old 1970s pre cast concrete garage converted into a craft room, 4 weeks from removing asbestos room , stud wall. Insulation, flat roof with edpm felt , double glazing, lighting, 3 double power sockets with usb, cat6 network, hard wired to the router. Ecotile hard wearing flooring, need pvc side door, garage is located at the bottom of the garden
Do you mind me asking how much your conversion cost? Thanks
great video thanks a lot would be great if you can make a long one with a bit more explanation :)
Hi, can I ask why you used a breathable membrane and not a vapour barrier on the warm side?
How big was your Garage looking to do the same already brought garage it 18 and half foot long by 14 and half foot wide
Mine is 3 m x 5 m
Amazing video, Are you able to share a link to the plates you used to secure the timber to the concrete section? I’ve looked on your website and it just says Screwfix but they sell multiple 10 packs of plates
Very nice build. I like it. Well done 👍.
Thanks😁
Nice. Thank you. Why didn't you put down a dpm on the ground before boarding it up?
Nice work, looks great, love the leather handles! Thanks for making the video. 👍
Do the panels bolt to the floor? Cant really tell from the footage
No they are bolted together and just standing on the floor
Very nice. Although like myself I have a precast garage. But drilling in to the walls even with one screw voids your 10 year guarantee. Also meant to be bad for the structure. Was wanting to see how you got the wood on walls but you skipped straight past that part. Precast garage you can only glue the wood beams on to the walls before hand.
asbestos ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Need mine doing 👍
Asbestos roofing? 😱😱
Just wondered if the membrane is ok a few inch from the edge like you have done, im also getting a pre fab garage and am thinking of doing what youve done, usually the membrane would run up the outer base but with the pre fab base you cant, because you want to see the concrete edge, please help
If the ground is damp for long periods then bridging will occur. However, if the ground is well drained then this may never occur - it will never be a problem. If a damp patch starts around the wall edge then a gravel filled ditch could be installed around the wall outside edge.
When you did the cement fillet did you still get water ingress? I'm still having water ingress in my garage
No. There’s no water ingress any more. 😀
@@No5Workshop thanks for the response. Did you use premixed mortar from places like B&Q?
Why would your roof panels be asbestos?
No they are cement fibre. My mistake.
HI can you just confirm where you purchased and specifically the size of the joint plates you used to fix the vertical wooden batons to the concrete panels. Many thanks Ed
Hi I just got them from screwfix. They have all the sizes that may suit your needs. But I have to drill some extra holes for the screws. Thanks
is it safe for food if you use adhesive for the lid?
Chains, in general, should have some slack in it. It will turn both sprockets consistently even with slack and it will allow the bearings in the chain to roll uninhibited by any unnecessary pressure. You will get weird wear patterns if a chain is too tight and you will have difficulty turning the vice.
Would you say this is already too tight in the video?
Hello, brill video. Now planning my prefab garage isolation project. How did you attach the battens to the roof frame? Cheers
Nicely done. Have a question about the floor board. Is it strong enough?
Thanks. Yes. So far it’s been great. 😃
are the panels solid concrete or aircrete?
Solid, but thin. They do the job and can last over 30 years.
Great job, what was the total cost to insulate the inside ?
how do attach the membrane to the wall
I used some foil tape😃
After seeing this I’m going to have ago at mine already got electrics in got tumble dryer and spare fridge freezer in there rest is selveing for all me tools and tins of paint as I’m painter decorator, but need to put a sink in and make bottom end a utility for the wife the garage is in good condition, can’t afford to rebuild in brick so will convert this one ,thanks for the vid ,one other thing my roof is metal wouldn’t be best to take this off and start again or just insulate underneath inside thanks
What a shame you didn’t video how you attached the breathable membrane to the walls or ceiling. Why skip that part? Especially as that’s the most important part of converting a concrete garage!
Stop moaning
Would have been perfect if you had used a vapour barrier (impermeable) in-between stud and plasterboard, nice job other than that.
conveniently skipped over the one part i wanted to see... attaching stuff to the concrete.
Asbestos roofing sheets??? I hope not !!!!
Great video. Did you need sign off re building regulations for this? I'm sat here with the tools and materials but stumped by whether I can actually start or not. All I want to do is insulate and floor the garage and put up an internal stud wall covering the garage door (from the inside) so it is a bit more habitable but everywhere I look it says something different!
Hi I didn't apply building reg because it's not a habitable place. To my understanding the building needs to have at least electricity and water to be habitable. But it may vary depending on different area.
Okay, now i know what a plinth is
Hi - is this you on the video? Did you do the work in the inside all by yourself?
Yeah it's me.
Asbestos?? Thought it was banned!
My mistake. It's cement fiber actually
@@No5Workshop I hope mine is. I'm going to paint it anyway, to seal it.
That turned out really nice, I'm going to make a lid for my wok out of a slice of tree I got knocking around, I have no idea what it is(possibly coconut or maybe Narra)but I think it will be ok having seen how you finished your lid. How did your turn out after long-term use?
Thanks. Its been holding its shape nicely considering all the steam it's been through.
