Chains, in general, should have some slack in it. It will turn both sprockets consistently even with slack and it will allow the bearings in the chain to roll uninhibited by any unnecessary pressure. You will get weird wear patterns if a chain is too tight and you will have difficulty turning the vice.
There is a way out of first annoyance: two extra nuts placed just in front an a bit ahead of standard nuts will provide for extra support for axles, preventing them from leaning down when front jaw is fully open
Hey No5, I'm considering buying this vise for my new bench. At the end of your video you mentioned the vise screws bind when you open it too far. I just watched another video and the bloke solve the problem by attaching a board to the underside of the bench, between the bench and the screws, thus preventing the screws from racking. Here's the video if you haven't already solved the problem. Oh, and how do like the twin screw Veritas?
Thanks. I remember seeing this solution from the instruction manual. Overall it’s a very solid and beefy vise. In practice the only downside is that it doesn’t have a quick release mechanism and it takes a lot of turns from wide open to closed up.
👍🐯👍. Good job on the installation. Can you do a review of the record jack plane you have? I'm interested in one and wish to know how much work goes into getting it ready to work properly.
I got it ages ago. Apart from sharpening the blade, I don't think there's a great deal needed to be done. The sole is flat and the depth adjusting wheel is smooth as well.
just found your channel today, good stuff. I look forward to seeing more. How are you finding the cork on both jaws of the vice? I found it would tend to be a bit squishy and some things would slip in the vice, after removing one side of cork this solved the issue for me. Keep on Keeping on man 👍😁👌 New sub here
Sorry, not sure if I missed this information in your video, but, how long are those screws? Considering buying this vise, but not sure how long of an overhang I need to have for the screws under the table top. Thanks!
Great video. Thanks!
Thank you for the clear and concise instruction. I agree the instructions are quite verbose.
Great channel, keep up the good content! Looking forward to what you'll make :)
Thanks man. Appreciated that.

Would you say this is already too tight in the video?

@@No5Workshop Mine is in the mail. I've bought an older screw vice for the side, which has quick release. Thanks for replying. DD

Thanks. They do compress a bit but also provide more grip than the bare plywood I think.

Hi I can't remember on top of my head. But I think it's definitely in the veritas manual which you can find online.
