the tenor and 11th are difficult to get up wrong, you do have to actively try to get them up wrong. The 9th and 10th are a different matter altogether!

@@DavidBraunton all the bells at barrow never go up wrong for some reason. The sixth at barrow is the only one that goes up wrong easily

guess it's just the interaction of the bell and weight of clapper, I'll wait to hear from someone involved in bell hanging/clapper manufacture to explain it better/in more detail.

Well technically we have three tenors, number five is the tenor for the front five, number eight is tenor for the front eight, whilst the big bell is tenor to the lot. I'm not sure why with a peal of bells the biggest is called the tenor, yet for a carillon its the bass bell (musically this makes more sense to me). We tend to refer to both 11 & 12 as tenor bells, because of their size, 1.2 & 1.62 tonnes approximately respectively.

Its a rarity we toll the bells, but felt fitting to mark the fire at Notre Dame. I guess because we're practising methods (the English style patterns) we need the bells fully up to enable changing the order they ring in; but it's all done by humans, no motors, except the clock chiming!

@@PlainBobMinor16 it still went to up right, before the overhaul, but impossible to get it right one handed, whilst also swinging the tenor. Cant honestly remember why the muffle is opposite side to the tenor.
