2010 Triumph Bonneville SE ownership review.
Apologies for the long video. Anyone can Google the 2010 Triumph Bonneville SE and learn that it is a 500 lb. modern classic with 67 horsepower and 50 lb. ft. of torque. Instead, I wanted to share the riding experience with anyone looking to add this little sweetheart of a motorcycle to their garage. Enjoy!

2007 BMW F800ST ownership review
มุมมอง 4.5K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
New to me 2007 BMW F800ST. While I haven't had the opportunity to live with this motorcycle for long, I have some miles under my belt with it now, and would like to share some early impressions of this underrated sport / touring machine. For someone looking to ride some longer trips without sacrificing much of the sport aspect of a motorcycle, this one just might check all the boxes for you.

    Apparently the F800GT has somewhat higher bars. I sat on that, and noticed the difference...but even still I wish the bars were higher on the F800GT as well. A Honda NT700 Deauville for instance felt immediately comfortable to me.

    The BMW F800S was my first motorcycle bike and I did more than 60.000 km (37.200 miles, approx) in less than 3 years and a half. Although some maintenance was tough (belt, plugs, and strator), the rest was superb. I did use it for everything: day-to-day trips, sport routing, and traveling. Also my partner loved to ride it with me on the back; she always said that the seat was super comfortable. 9,5/10 of a bike ^^

Staintune exhsust, Ohlins rear shocks, disconnected pollution gear, high flow air cleaner one less tooth on the front sprocket, giving it perfect gearing and fantastic midrange power and torque. The 2007 F800ST timed out at 12.1 and 3.9 seconds, respectively. In conclusion, I stand by my comment that these two bikes are very close, though a slight edge appears to go to the Kawasaki. • @berniedmj1

    My dad just gave me his 93 300e 2.8l for free! That’s because he can’t drive anymore due to being old. The car drives amazingly well & smooth. The interior is still in great condition, but the center console has little cracks. However, he didn’t bother to take care of the exterior. It needs a paint job. I’m new to the Mercedes community & I can’t tell the difference between a base, 4-matic, & a 2.8l. They look alike. I mean, is mine a w124? I read the owners manual & it didn’t tell me which one I have. I looked at the door frame of the B pillar to see if it would tell me there. Nothing. And I looked under the hood trying to read anything if it would tell me what mine is. So I don’t know.

    • @cdm121880
      @cdm121880 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is simply the chassis code. It covers this bodystyle, and it doesn't matter if it is 2wd or 4matic, both can be a 124 chassis. It will be located on a metal plate fastened to the radiator framework. Of course, it's possible that someone removed it, but not likely. There are several numbers on this plate, but the second row should be the chassis number. It will be a 6 digit number, such as 124028, as the car in this video has. That is technically a W124.028 (W for sedan, 124 for this chassis, 028 for the 2.8 liter engine). If it is a coupe, you have a C124, convertible is an A124, etc.. Hope this helps. Lol. "Back then," it was called a motorcycle 😂. I have a 2014 Bonneville that's two tone, but no Tachometer. I picked it up barely brocken in a couple years ago. The only thing I don't like is the previous owner put a 2 into 1 on it. I think they sound a little better with 2 into 2. I'm also replacing the rectifier with a mosfet as the charging can be erratic with the stock one, ala Freddie Dobbs and his hard starting issues.

      That's fair... a standard motorcycle certainly would have simply been a motorcycle before the introduction of other categories, huh? 😉 Before I purchased this one, I had looked into some of the aftermarket exhaust options and Tec made a 2 into one as well as a 2 into 2 that both seemed to sound solid. However, finding this one with the TORS exhaust was a bonus! Thanks for watching and for the comment, cheers!

      Wow! Thank you for the kind words and for the sub! I was actually born in nearby Atchison, KS, but grew up in Saint Joseph. Unfortunately, I can not say that I know Ace. As far as locating a good example of a Bonneville, I would say it's generally a bike that is well cared for. Obviously, there are always some exceptions, but for the most part, the majority of the bikes I looked into appeared to be loved. Last year, when looking for a Suzuki SV650, many of them were not as fortunate. Mine was found on Facebook Marketplace in Kansas City. Owned by a 67 year old gentleman who simply could not ride anymore due to leg and back pain. This bike was his baby. It will receive the same care in my garage as it has in his. I love this machine. Like most things, just be diligent. Look on Craigslist, (a few people still use it) look on Marketplace (by far the hottest method of selling these days). Most of all though, be patient. Don't settle for a machine that doesn't check the boxes for you. If you want a mag wheel Bonnie, find one! I passed on a pretty nice T100 because I really wanted the SE. I knew I would regret settling at some point. These bikes are a bargain in my opinion. They offer a fun, comfy, characterful, British riding experience for very little coin. Good luck and ride safe!

    • @cdm121880
      @cdm121880 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because if there is a fluid and a filter, both of those items have a lifespan. I have heard of people who have a ton of miles without changing fluid, but then suddenly do change fluid, then experience failure. Might be some truth to the theory that the clutches become reliant on the friction material in the fluid. I can't say for sure, but it seems common. However, I've never known someone to have followed the manufacturer's recommended fluid change interval and experience a premature, fluid related failure. They recommend these fluid and filter replacement intervals for a reason, and I trust the engineers who built these components to know better than the general public.

    Best bike I've ever owned. Had my 2011 ST from new. Commuting, touring and track, it's had a hard life. Crashed mine a few times on the road and track, it's robust, crashes well and is relatively easy to fix. I have BMW service it once per year and that's pretty much it, no oil, no lube, nothing, I just keep the tyres pumped and load it with petrol. 75k km now and on my third belt, and second clutch, but I'm hard on my bike and it's never let me down. Super economical, even on track, easy 300km per tank commuting into town. The only downsides are the ABS, which does give you the running on feeling when the road is bumpy and you slam on the brakes, and the forks are a bit budget. May not set the world on fire, but the torque gives a nice peak at 5500rpm.

    Been into bikes ill be a new beginner around my area there is 2012 f800 st around $4800 is that value or over value iv been really having my eyes on a ninja 400 as to contrast ....?

      It depends largely on the condition of the bike. If it has been well cared for, it might be a fair price. You can always haggle, though. ;) I've never ridden a Ninja 400, but I have heard that it is a terrific choice for a beginner. Super light-weight and easily manageable power. Can't go wrong there.

    I dislike the rust, far worse than the e34 and Audi 100. I don't like the hassel involved in changing rear wheel bearings.

      Hello. What size is your engine? Should be a catalyst sticker under the hood that tells you. 2.3 liter will be a 230, 2.6 liter will be a 2.6 liter and so on.

    The BMW F800ST is a great bike and I enjoy riding it (owned a 2008 since 2019), the only thing I think BMW dropped the ball on is the rear wheel bearing arrangement. There is no practical way to service or lubricate the bearings, and as a result - they can become lubrication starved and cause the inner race to spin on the shaft. The good news is there is a safety recall for this item, so if it starts to go bad on you...BMW will have to replace the bearing/hub assembly for free. I have heard that some people have had trouble getting the work done on the company dime. As they say - YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary). As for me, I have been keeping tabs on it...and periodically checking the rear wheel for play or roughness. The one caveat we should be aware of. Thanks for the video, and keep the rubber side down... 🏍

      I have done a bit of research and the forums mention a part number for a belt that is the same, but uses a different part number and costs much less. Worth looking into.

    You said this is where everything began, you were more right than you know, at 6:31 you can see where the highway meets the bluff, directly under there is where Joseph Robidoux built his first trading post, which would have been the first structure in St. Joe.

    Appreciated this video. Seriously considering an F800ST for my second era motorcycle. Keep having to fight my tendency to get a big bore sport touring bike. My last bike was an ST1100.

      Not sure how it would compare to the 1100, but this bike has a great power to weight ratio.

    I found the riding position a bit too much sportbike also (I'm 65 and not as flexible as I used to be). Adding a set of bar risers, a footpeg lowering kit and a Sargent seat made it just about perfect for me. The seat in particular worked wonders, the first decent-length trip on the bike was a breeze-I rode a couple of 10 hour days with no issues. When I bought the bike it had a factory low seat, which was like sitting on a cinder block. I found a standard seat used and it was pretty nice, but like you I noticed that I was sliding forward and contacting the "tank" by the end of a ride. The Sargent seat (also used) eliminates all of that, is comfortable all day and is about the same height. The bike will cruise all day at 75-85 mph (there's a nice sweet spot in the rev range there where engine vibration is barely noticeable). You're right when you say it sounds tractor-like (strangely the exhaust doesn't really sound like any other 360 twin I've ever heard and there's all sorts of thrashing noise coming from somewhere) but other than that it's a great bike. Light enough to move around in the garage, great handling, decent power, looks nice and has fabulous brakes. I love it.

      @cdm121880 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, for sure. I really like the bike, but if I'm giving an honest assessment, I have to talk about the bad too. Luckily, there's not much bad to talk about. Cheers!

      Fantastic, and hello from the U.S.! I, too didn't know anything about them, but found one for sale locally. After a test ride, I was convinced that this should be on my short list for an inexpensive sport tourer. I'm very happy with it and just purchased a set of expandable panniers a few days ago.

      Outstanding! The Kawasaki is a great learner bike, but a tourer it is not. The BMW is certainly one that I would consider "underappreciated", but it is a very versatile machine that checks a lot of boxes. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
