  • Introduction to the new video series featuring this well kept 2000 CLK430. What is it like to daily drive a 20+ year old Mercedes? Is it a good idea? What kind of issues can you run into? What does it cost to own a European car of this vintage when you use it nearly everyday? Follow along, I'm exited to share this experience with you!

I just bought a bucket list item. A 2002 CLK Cabriolet A208 with 108K. She has the same issue with the clock. When she pulls up a steep berm, there is a little, barely noticeable Clunk. Might be the seat of a ball joint. A little oil in the transmission fluid was the only maintenance defect. I did pull the original radio and cd changer and replace it with a new Pioneer sound system that hooks to my phone. She is a dream to drive. Women of all ages stop and look at this car. There more miles left on this car than there are on me.

Glad you enjoy it. I'm probably going to be needing a four-door soon so I might have to part with mine. Has been a very trouble-free experience thus far.

Hi Clint, I just found your video and thanks for sharing. I love my 2001 silver CLK320. It has 58000 kilometres or 35k miles. Such a beautiful car. Bought it 4 years ago with 35000 km for $12200 AUD or less than a tenth of its new price. Yes I had the seals issue with leaks which I had to spend $$ to fix plus a new fuel pump, crank position sensor and new aircon compressor. Apart from that it's been very reliable as a daily driver, though I'm very close to work. It just trundles around the suburbs but comes alive on the freeway. It's a great cruiser, not a sports car. I don't care that it's 22 years old. It's in fabulous condition and I just love it. Greetings from Sydney.

Indeed. The CLK430 is a bit of a mutt, as the platform is from the w202 C Class, with some massaged w210 sheetmetal. But we will discuss that in the next video. Wonderful car so far!

Just bought a 2000, one-owner Texas car with 52K miles for a daily driver.

Ive never owned a Mercedes Benz younger than a 1983. I'll be interersted in your experiences with this. I'm not a fan of the newer cars as the technological complexity and associated repair problems does not appeal. But these first Gen CLK's do look quite interesting and maybe they are something to consider.

You bet! I'm with you, though I have owned several that are newer than 1983, and just one that is older, our 1966 250s. While complexity is certainly a concern, the c208 in this video is fairly simple compared to, say, the S Class of similar vintage. It is basically a C Class with some massaged E Class sheetmetal and the m113 V8 between the fenders. I'm excited about this series and can't wait to see what this experience brings! Thanks for the comment!

Why’d you get rid of the 550?

I suddenly needed a truck. Traded it in on a new pickup.

@@CatoQassem negative. However, the cost is less than half of the E550.
