Hi Katherine, while using the drone, the app records audio through the app on your iPhone and syncs automatically to the video on the app. It also eliminates the sound of the drone somehow. It is really pretty cool.
Who should we stay away from? Who should we trust?
Not sure what you are referencing - just always use good judgement.
I was medically retired not 100%P&T. My military ID says Retired after reading DOD INSTRUCTION 4515.13 I think I qualify for the Space A under Category VI but I’m still a little confused. Do you have any clarification.
Where space-a flights are concerned medically retired is the same as retiring after 30 years. You and your lawful dependents are eligible to fly anywhere space-a goes. You are correct, you are CAT VI. Thank you for supporting the channel!
Oh, so you mean it's like trying to get your promised Reserve Component retirement out of the Army/DFAS. If you don't "apply" for it as of 2018, then the Govt is more than happy to forget about that it owed you anything.
Hmmm. Not sure I get you... I have several colleagues who have successfully navigated the retirement process from the USAR. As for Space-A, yes you have to meet their criteria and apply the rules, but it can be pretty easy once you fly a couple of times.
@CliffWagner That's the whole point! We shouldn't have to "navigate" anything. You can't tell me that someone out there isn't incapacitated for some reason, mentally, physically, or both, and got their 20-year letter maybe 20 years earlier. Who's helping them?
cannot get MilSpaceA on my Samsung phone, get error message?
Unfortunately, the developer of that app is not keeping it updated for Android or iOS.
So if were at Travis, do we get a choice of SpaceA or Patriot Express, is it one sign up or two?
It is one sign up. You can watch for PE on the 30 Day Schedule and as they enter the 72 Hour window they will then show up on the 72 Hour schedule. If you sign up and show up on a day that the PE is flying, you can compete for the PE or for any cargo aircraft departing same day.
okay, thanks for all the great posts. Were thinking of SpaceA to Hawaii from Travis, then to Guam, commercial to Japan. Anyone done this??
I have not done that route yet, but have heard of folks who have. Are you on Facebook and if so, are you already on Military Space Available Travel group? Check in there and get ideas. Thanks for supporting the channel!

Thanks Cliff always appreciate your Space A information 👌🏾👍🏾👏🏾!
Glad to be of service and thanks for watching!
I may try to get a flight to Hawaii out of Travis.I live in So. Calil., so Id either drive or fly to the nearest airport to Travis. Any recommendation. I am 100% service connected, is there lodging on Travis. I have posted questions to you before but did not get an answer? How do I get it? thanks, Lloyd I.
There is lodging on Travis however it depends if it’s a Reserve Duty weekend it will be tough to get accommodations. Call ahead and check for availability. If you plan on flying to Hawaii it’s very easy from Travis because there are a lot of flights to Hawaii. I hope this helps you.
Sorry if you did not get a response before. I know that you can get really inexpensive Southwest flights from So Cal to Sacramento International. Then just UBER down to Travis. As @skip2it426 indicated, call ahead to Travis to check on accomodations, they have a very large Air Force Inn. Getting between Travis and JB Pearl Harbor/Hickam should be easy and once in Hawaii, watch for return flights to March Air Reserve Base in Riverside Co. or North Island NAS in San Diego. Hope you have a blast!
@@skip2it426- Thanks for the comment!
Would Amtrak work to get to SF then taxi to Travis for you? I believe there is a taxi service that allows to be on post because the drivers was vetted
alohaairporter.com/ I have not used them, but aloha Airporter comes highly recommended. I suggest that you call them and confirm they have access to the passenger terminal at Travis AFB.
I’m an unusually tall person. Are PE flights all economy seating?
Actually, no - some of them have business class seating if you are lucky.
Hey, thanks for your great into. My wife and I just took our first SpaceA flight from North Island, SD. to Kaneohe. There we only 10 civilians on board a C10. We just registered via email, showed up and got on. easy breezy. the nightmare was getting from Kaneohe to Hickam. We arrived at 9m, great. but to get Uber to hicham took until 3pm. All of the ride share drivers said they couldnt get on to the base. The front gate was quite a ways from the terminal so we hicthed a ride from a sailor. It looks like Travis and Edwards has more flights to Hawaii, so were going to try them. We live in Orange Co. so Edwards and North Island are closest. Well have to fly to Travis. Question, you mentioned an app on one of your videos. MilSpaceA, when I went to download it for my Samsung Android phone, I got an error message, saying cannot download doe to this is an older version for Android. Is there a work around to get this app? thanks, Lloyd
Thank you for the comment and for supporting the channel! Unfortunately, the TakeAHop APP is not configured for Android and from what I understand, the developer is not keeping it updated for iOS either. I know that other developers are working on another new app solution so stay tuned. In the meantime, it is pretty easy to just email your sign up in. Take care an happy travels! - Cliff
Sorry to hear there was a fatal accident near your home. Certainly makes us think about how blessed we are. Very happy I chose to retire this year.
Ina, I am so glad you get to retire this year - I know that it is very well deserved!
I agree with your points. Life is about choices. I've been frugal and mindful of how I spend my money which now affords me semi-retirement at 58. I've lost people in my life, both old and young, through death the last several years which reminds me my time is limited too. Thanks for your content.

I do have a question about space A flights. I am a survivor of a deceased retired veteran. I would like to know when I fill out the forms to send to them to be on a flight it wants me to put my rank in. Do I put my spouse rank in? Thank you
You can if you like. It really has no application to the processing of your sign-up as rank does not influence competition within eligible categories.
@@CliffWagner Thank you
So, I have a home in the Philippines... I don't see much if any cost different than if I were to fly a cheapOOO airline to get there... and not nearly as much ambiguity as flying SpaceA. I might try it once ... just to get the tattoo.
Unfortunately, Space-a to or from the Philippines is not authorized, but certainly could be in the future. For most folks, that leg of the journey is a commercial flight. Best of luck to you and thanks for checking in!

Can I as a 100% P&T disabled veteran bring my adult son as a guest in these military facilities since he is going to be my driver to take me to these places?
Yes, in fact, you can bring anyone you want to most military resort facilities and in most cases, sponsor one or more rooms as needed. Always best to contact the facility, just to confirm their policy, but I have sponsored rooms for non-military friends at Hale Koa Resort.

I completed the registration this morning out of Lil rock. Don’t see any 30 day flights right now but I’ll keep checking.
Little Rock will only feature Space-a flights on their 72 hour report. Unfortunately, they do not serve as a hub for Patriot Express, so they will not have a 30 day report...

What are the general steps for travel
th-cam.com/video/spPZ_GaInXA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wYDnGWypbIfkExG3
Another question. On the Space A sign up form it asks you to select country destination choices. The Seattle IAP AMC Patriot Express has flights to both Kadena AB and Yokota AB in Japan on the same day. So, with that, I can choose which flight to Japan based on availability and roll call?
Yes, you can change destination choice based upon available flights.
We’re currently stationed in ND and we are a family of 4 from the SE. Can you please help us navigate how to do this?
Start by watching the Space-A Boot Camp series of videos (4). th-cam.com/video/spPZ_GaInXA/w-d-xo.html Much of your potential for a good Space-A experience rests on where you start and where you want to go. For example, many parts of the country are Space-A deserts with little or no Space-A options, so depending on your destination, you will need to get to passenger terminal that has a frequency of flights to your destination. If you were seeking to take the family to Hawaii, I would recommend that you fly commercially to Travis AFB, CA and catch one of their flights that frequently fly to HI. Alternatively, if you wanted to go to Japan, I would recommend that you fly to Seattle and catch the PA from SETAC that fly's with frequency to Japan and Osan. Alternatively, if you wanted to get to Germany, several options exist on the east coast, but you would probably need to fly commercially on the first leg of that flight.
@@CliffWagner for our journey, specifically, how would you recommend we go? I’ve watched all the videos but still confused on what to do.
@@josenrissa828 Where exactly are you hoping to travel to?
Yes Sir! Time to play!!🎉
You know it!
That bad boy is sweet!
It is a pretty cool little device.
Hello. What is the significance of the date and time sign up on the roll call list?
That is another indicator of the level of competition as it "should" reflect the date and time of the sign up of the lowest category of space a passenger selected. So if you are seeing a CAT VI passenger who signed up the day prior or day of travel, you can tell competition for seats was not very high. If everyone who showed up got a seat, then this information is less useful. I say that it "should" reflect (above) because some passenger terminals input data more accurately than do others. Hope that helps!
@@CliffWagner So do the dates of leave on the sign up form matter if you are retired?
@@jimgemelas4147 Nope.
@@CliffWagner ok. just the date and time of sign up. thanks! nice channel!
@@CliffWagner What does the “L” stand for in the time listings? I should know this….
I’m subscribed to your channel and thank you for sharing such invaluable info.
Thank you so much for supporting the channel!
Can you bring friends? Or do they have to be dependents
You can bring friends if they are qualifying veterans under DoDI 4515.13 or or lawful dependents of yours and enrolled in DEERS.
@@CliffWagner damn so basically no then lol. Sounds like it would be hard
wife and I went to Anchorage Alaska(Elmendorf) during a heat wave(June) that was going to hit the Bay area. It was a good time to get out of town. We spent 2 weeks in Anchorage and the surrounding areas, sightseeing. Even during the supposed high season of PCS movement it is still possible to get to Alaska from Travis. WE ended up taking a c17 with about 20 people and 53 seats released.
Thank you for your comment and you are spot on correct. There are some routes to destinations where, even during PCS season, there is little or no competition. So those destinations become readily accessible to folks like yourself who are willing to go there. I myself am planning a short trip up to Anchorage as well in the next few weeks. I have never been. Thank you again!
Thanks for all the info! Great videos! Do you have a go-to app or resource for booking the last minute commercial flights to get you back home in time on a commercial flight? Or just to get the last leg of travel in?
I don’t have a go to app for that, I have use Booking.com and I have used Google flights in the past. Thank you for your comment and good luck on your space a adventures!
PCS season over, now it's retiree season 😎 ✈️
Time to make a plan and catch a flight!
It's CAT VI season 😅
You know it!
Hey Cliff I’m on my way to Guam at the end of next month Space A and from there further on into Asia. Thanks for sharing appreciate your information! ✌🏾
Very cool, Guam is on my list too!
Yes, Thanks for the reminder! Any recommendations navigating departure from San Diego California? 🤔 or video reference where to start now that the season is ready for us?
Naval Air Station North Island has occasional flights to Hawaii, depending on your eligibility, Hawaii is a great jump off point with lots of flights to the Pacific Rim as well as many flights to the East Coast. If necessary, you can jump a cheap Southwest Airlines flight to Travis AFB and decide where you want to go from there.
We're getting out and it's a good thing! Get out there!
Now is the time... Let's goooo!
Thanks for the videos! Any advice for trying to get back to smaller bases? Seems easy to get to Travis but harder to get back home to our smaller space a terminal. Hope that makes sense!
Small Space-A terminals do get what I call "Unicorn Flights" that is to say, once in a blue moon, a great outbound flight pops up to a great location. The best advise I have heard is take the first think smoking going in your general direction. As a California resident, if I am in Hawaii returning to CA and if I am on a strict schedule, I will either take commercial or any Space-A flight going to the west coast. Could end up in Washington State or SoCal, then I would be prepared to fly, bus or train to get home.
@@CliffWagner cool sounds good-thanks!
What about medical retirement?
Medically retired veterans enjoy the exact same Space-A privileges as as any other military retiree. They may fly ANYWHERE Space-A is allowed and be accompanied by their lawful dependents.
@@CliffWagner well I guess I have to take the wife on the Europe tour now lol

E4 mafia Cold War. You know just enough to not get in trouble.
Ahh the lessons learned... Invaluable...
That publication doesn't even mention disabled vets. The websites put them in the lowest category, so all this info is outdated.
I'm going to assume that you are referring to my reference to Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) - you are correct, these agreements don't address disabled veterans and it is EXACTLY because they are silent on the status of disabled veterans that they can not extend eligibility to the disabled veteran community in those foreign countries. As far as disabled veterans being in the lowest Space-A category, that has always been the case since 2019. They are in the same category (CAT 6) as reservists, gray area reservists, retirees active and reserve, widows and pretty much everybody not active duty.
@@CliffWagner Understood
Hello Cliff, I watched your great video about Space A travel recently opening up to Category VI PTD veterans. I looked at the DODI 4515.13 page 49 to ensure that my particular category doesn't allow OCONUS foreign destinations. It's true as you stated. Representative Bilirakis from FL who was responsible for amendment H.R. 936 contributed such an amazing change, however that bill in the Subcomittee limited travel to only CONUS destinations for PTD's. I'm trying to research WHY in an effort to convince my Representative to advocate for PTD's Space-A abroad. Maybe you understand why they limited travel to CONUS for PTD's? I researched a bit, so military base as port of entry, without Customs Agents (is this right?) to allow entry into another country, such category as mine, without a SOFA card, might be the reason behind this restriction? Yet, Medically Retired are able to Space-A abroad, so what could be the logistical reason for this destination limitation on Cat VI PTD's in particular? I looked up SOFA, but it's application is for residence on military base inside host country. In a foreign country (on base), isn't arrival as Cat VI PTD with valid passport, and DOD ID sufficient? Cat VI Retired is able to arrive from CONUS to OCONUS, so how is this any different? I appreciate any time and contribution to this issue you have, it is be greatly appreciated! S
the greatest criminal enterprise is when the E4 mafia teams up with Warrant officers.
Never speak of Warrant Officers - only harm can come to those who do...
E4 mafia story. Bane of existence, field exercise. ALOCs are where the highest form of shamming was required, because everyone there was accomplished, and the NCO's knew it, and work extra hard to defeat conventional shamming. The especially treasured snagging an e4 to run a detail with privates. So, we planned and worked to keep a tame, about to ETS Major on hand at the ALOC instead o going to schmooze at the head shed. This guy was on his way out and dint care about scoring points. We set him up extra comfy, kept him supplied him with acquired T ration Coffee Cake and extra pogey bait so just in case a wandering NCO came through the ALOC looking for a detail, he'd come out of hibernation like a grump bear protecting his cubs and saying he needed us for immediate operations. Being a major, he didn't really give a crap about who came looking--he might have paid attention to a Sergeant Major, but it's not like they were out pounding the ground to fil up details.
Sounds like a well thought out E-4/O-4 joint plan of operations. Makes sense all around.
In 1973 I spent June and July in a palapa there when the total population was about 40 people. It’s never been a great wave for surfing but occasionally would have it’s moments. So yes Robson, the water is polluted and the reef decimated and the crowds horrendous but thatz the price you pay for progress. But I will always remember my first 2 months there when I was 17 years old. I still visit once in awhile. Cheers…….
Thank you for your comment, sounds like you were there at the beginning.
I’ve only been out of basic for a couple months, and when I got to home for the first time I decided to drive in uniform, while driving I stopped to use the restroom at a rest area, some little girl thanked me for my service and I had so many eyes on me.
