I have seen many many comments online from expats and visitors to Australia indicating that Australians are very unfriendly and rude

We moved from Central QUEENSLAND to Melbourne because QLD was too hot. That was a big mistake, Melbourne is freezing 9-10 months of the year! Also biggest problem with Australia is the housing crisis. If you don't own a home you can forget it. Government only considers home owners as they are the majority voters.

Perth seems quite dry-more like Pretoria, is this tue or are there parts and especially suburbs that are more like Cape Town. I am sure the city is amazing but I reckon it makes sense to settle outside of the CBD. Again, what I‘ve seen seems dry with little greener. is there a - to put it blandly- is there a pretty suburb that you would recommend living in. I know I'm 3 years late to this... but I want to explain "tall poppy syndrome" properly from the Aussie side. It is NOT resentment about someone doing well. It IS about someone doing well AND THEN getting arrogant about it. Australia is an egalitarian society, even though we're NOT all equal, we maintain the position that we are. People who get arrogant get cut down. On the other hand, we still love Johnny Farnham, Delta Goodram, even Johnny Howard because they've stayed true to themselves.
