I'm so glad there's a video of this! I've been experimenting with water marbling and stamping techniques on minis too! Stamping works best with uv gel cured polish rather than mini paint for sure. Needs a thick consistency and something that doesnt dry too quickly. Nail polish on minis is also a cool way to get some awesome effects.

Was checking out actual nail polish videos. 3 things. First, wash the metal stamp plate bc the blue sticker leaves a residue behind. Two, I wonder if ink will work better. But the best and final thing, you can allow the actual stamp to dry and put a polish or gloss film on top to make a transfer. I’m excited to try all this stuff soon.

We have been using nail art for a long time. Sorry nobody told you. We use everything from tattoos on action figures to tiles in dollhouse kitchens, the tiny rheinstones are brilliant as are the studs which have multiple uses.

My son is just getting into painting miniatures. I do my own gel nails and have a massive set of all the great stuff. I automatically thought that gel nail art supplies would be what he should use until I found that no one is using them in the miniature painting world…I am wondering why?! This is the first video I have found trying some. Is there a reason gel nail polish with an LED light isn't being used? Or even just mail polish and all thendifferenr options, colors and designs? Is it just that you don't mix boy Toys with girl toys? Is there an actual functional reason why? I’m wanting to buy him a whole set of paints, brushes and supplies for Christmas, so I am honestly wondering?

I would love to know the answer to this too! If using gel paint would we cure the same? The thought of a hole mirror or a chrome hole mirror for my daemonettes is just too much!

I know that I am very late to this video, but for the stamping (for anyone interested), I tend to find that gently rolling the surface of the stamper picks up the design much better than pressing it down. It does also help when you use a paint/polish that doesn't dry too quickly, and do one quick swipe of the scraper (don't worry if there's a little excess, the stamper probably won't pick that up) :)

Can't believe there aren't more videos for this. Saw some nail art plates the other day and through they would be perfect for painting super intricate patterns you sometimes see on space marine chapters like White Scars or Charcharodons. Thankyou for this tutorial, never even picked up nail polish before :D Did you ever figure out a way to get the really detailed ones working?

I know this is a bit old but I think I know why the stamped patterns aren't transferring/picking up well! Stencils tend to perform poorly with polishes/paints that air dry or dry relatively quickly, I think using an oil based paint as you said would get much better results and a matte gel polish might be worth a try too (although I'm not sure how gel polish would react with the other paints and plastic)

For anyone who wants to do stamping: works better if you use thick nail polish or a similar paint. If you want something specific for minis try the enamel ones (I'm pretty sure it's the same broader paint type), but tbh you can often find a better color range for cheaper if you use nail polish. And remember you're not using acrylic, so be careful with it, and test on bits you don't need too much.

the sponge tool would make adding pigment powders for weathering sooooo much easier and would probably save a lot of the extra pigment you waste with a brush application

And there I was, thinking I've discovered something amazing by using fine-powdered Chameleon type nail pigment with a warpaint medium to make magic, color changing weapons and shields. That first tool almost feels like cheating when thinking about doing color transitions, Imma get me one, if I can't get that effect with a makeup brush.

I was at element games on my way to Warhammer Fest. I don't know why I bothered because I was having such a mental hobby overload that I didn't even know what to do. I think it took 20-30 minutes of looking around before my brain started processing things again, and even then I didn't know where to look.
