On Earth, SpinLaunch spins a rocket up in vacuum as a first stage, and may turn out to be very useful in the small-sat market. On Minmus, rockets are just spun up and chucked. I remember suggesting something to a different youtuber and he responded with "That would be pretty great, but KSP physics are a tree model so I can't connect children back up to an ancestor." but this mechanism clearly demonstrates it is possible to do that so...
The trick is there are two parts that can break the tree model, struts and fuel ducts. The fuel ducts don't help, but struts... those let the top platform fully connect to all four of the supports.
Make a vehicle that has this on a snail-like belly.

Building it only took ~2 hours or so, but programming the robotics controllers took about the same since it greatly slows down after adding ~32 to a given controller, and each controller needs to control all 64 pistons, so ~4 hours to get the final product.

Thanks! Surprisingly, I managed to get it working in about 2 hours, with the hardest part being getting the gear pattern for the floor and the door meshing properly. Once I got that, everything else went pretty smoothly!

James Bruton's version, when you lean to one side it will accelerate you in that direction to right itself, so the whole thing is really capable of moving in any direction. In my version, I've got reaction wheels that just keep me pointed up.

This one is! Well, I started it when the sun was directly overhead. And the sun was directly overhead when it hit the same position again. But yes, the hour hand rotates once every six hours, the minute hand every 60 minutes, and the second hand every 60 seconds, which perfectly matches the 6 hour Kerbin day.
Wicked cool.
