KSP Holotile, inspired by

  • Out of Disney Imagineering, the Holotile is a proposed system to allow for omnidirectional movement in AR/VR environments.
    I just think it looks neat.

    I remember suggesting something to a different youtuber and he responded with "That would be pretty great, but KSP physics are a tree model so I can't connect children back up to an ancestor." but this mechanism clearly demonstrates it is possible to do that so...

      The trick is there are two parts that can break the tree model, struts and fuel ducts. The fuel ducts don't help, but struts... those let the top platform fully connect to all four of the supports.

      Building it only took ~2 hours or so, but programming the robotics controllers took about the same since it greatly slows down after adding ~32 to a given controller, and each controller needs to control all 64 pistons, so ~4 hours to get the final product.
