    As many of you im confused with what I should get. And talking to BC office doesn't make it any easier. They told me there's not 2 but 3 options: std, -20mm and -30mm extreme low. And also thay added that those low models will be proportionally 20-30% stiffer. That sounds like a LOT. Such a dramatic ride quality compromise is a huge price to pay just for making sure I can get properly low.. any idea how to navigate this jungle? cheers P.S. car is bmw z3 coupe

    • @satisfiedincorporated
      @satisfiedincorporated หลายเดือนก่อน

      The shocks don't really to be built stiffer and you can tune them to be less stiff but the catch is.... The lower you go, the stiffer the shocks have to be. Why? Because if you're 1inch off the ground and have a soft suspension, you're going to be bottoming out and also hitting the ground all the time. To prevent that, you need to stiffen up. Also, you're asking a car that has very little up travel to do the same job as a car that has a ton of travel stock. A stiffer suspension is the price you pay the lower you go. Another way to put it, if you raised the car way up, you could make the suspension ridiculous soft because you would have tons of room for movement. I personally would get the lowest setup possible. You should be able to adjust higher if needed. As for the stiffness, you should be able to tune most of that out unless it's the springs and they are easy to change if needed. Hopefully you can adjust mostly thru valving.

    Hey Eric, thanks for the tip! I have a question, I had all my blinkers fail and indicator no longer clicks or lights up in instrument cluster…I wanted to test this type of relay to see if it’s faulty to confirm before I buy a new $200 one haha. I’m not savvy enough to do this process I don’t think. Let me know what your testing process is.

    • @satisfiedincorporated
      @satisfiedincorporated หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could test the relay by checking for power, ground and an input signal from the signal stalk. If they all went out at the same time though.... my bet is on the relay... One thing you could do to check is you could get my LED relay. They are pretty cheap. Then you could hook it up like my video (about 6min in). You just leave the black/white wire disconnected. This should give you functional turn signals, just no dash indicator. This will tell you if it was your relay and also get you up and going until you get a new relay. IMO, I might even check into a shop to do this for you. It would cost you but maybe they would do it for less than $200? Even if they did it for $200, then you have an easy to find relay that you can swap out in the future and save money in the long run. I dont think any new relays are available unless you get lucky so you would be rolling the dice on a used one. I hope that helps. Good luck!

    I hate to be critical, because there is hardly _anyone_ attempting to cover this complicated topic, so I'll mostly just say that there is more to it. The info presented here isn't exactly right, though it _does_ point at some of the right geometric characteristics involved, and it _is_ right in some ways. Long-form sources (as in books or video series) related to the _proper_ engineering and tuning of automotive suspensions will cover suspension geometry thoroughly and accurately, and I would refer interested people to look in that direction. It's just too big a topic to cover in the comments below a video.

      to my knowledge on these early motronic cars all sensors need to be functional, but you could also have an ignition switch issue. to check the switch run 12 volts from positive of battery to term 15 on coil (positive), then briefly jump pins 11 and 14 on your diagnostic port sticking off top of the motor. in a very similar boat with my 84 633 right now this shit is frustrating

I've got an '83 320i with the sport package that I'm bringing back to life. 3-spoke, leather wrapped wheel, 5-speed, Recaros and LSD. I like restomods and I may engine swap it at some point, but I really like the idea of having the pure, analog BMW experience, even if the engine is underpowered. I'm in the SLC area and know right where you were at. Would love to see this in person.

Enough to fit a battery and oil accumulator. Yeah, this car was built before I had any other BMWs. I know what you're saying about the stock motors. I now have a couple m30 cars and a m20 car. I love them! Not sure I would feel the same about the e21 and it's fuel system...I would probably go to carbs but again, I get your point. I moved away from SLC a couple years back. I find it so stupid that every coilover company sells coilovers that pretty much go higher then stock height and when you lower them all the way you barely lower the car by not much. Then you have to take preload off to lower it more. Im pretty sure people wouldnt be mad if the shock at full height and have enought threads is already lower then stock. And when you lower it you can actually get 3-4 inch lowered. Idk anyone who puts coilovers on to go stock height or only 1inch. Shit standard lowering springs start at 1.5 inch pretty much
