How to find a crew then?
How to build a crew then?
Sounds good, I'm in Sweden and sometimes soon maybe back in the Philippines...
Over the years I've often come across the idea that those who keep working on creative things are the ones who are most likely to be visited by their muse (I'm sure there's a more poetic way to say it, but I should be in bed already). As someone who works in long-form fiction and who has to create around life (I'm a working mum, so all the emotional/mental labour of running a household, plus regular work have to come before my writing) I often have to create when the opportunity presents itself. Usually a burst of inspiration comes after that. The idea is that after many edits, the two states will blend seamlessly. One tries 😄 My opinion is that it always comes down to balance. Still, better to make yourself create something than sit scrolling endlessly. Better to create *anything* than sleep through a day. That being said, sometimes you have to sleep. Sometimes you have to let your mind shut down. It's all balance. But the muse is unlikely to visit while you're mindlessly scrolling an algorithmic feed of content, unless you've trained the algorithm to feed you inspiration …
You've done it again, another Masterpiece!! 🙏🏾
Thank you!
5:06 the reason old school gaffers hate LED is legit. The Sun has the highest, most accurate color rendition. The second highest is... tungsten. And this fact remains to this day. They just get insanely hot and melt off your fingerprints if you're not careful. That and they require a ton of amps to run.
This is so true. I’ve always liked the results when working with tungsten, although the convenience of LED really won out for me as far as what I use for my projects.
Yo this is so cool!!!
Thanks!
How much does one of these cost? 😮
They’re getting more expensive, but you could easily find them for under $100
I've found over the last 2/ 3 years that it has been difficult to find crew, especially when working with a budget of nothing. I think I've got lucky finding willing crew (very talented friends of mine) and actors (paying for the travel, accommodation and food). I agree with you guys, when saying you're so conscious of other people's time and when I made my first short film - I made sure to plan the hell out of the production process making sure we stay on track, so I'd overestimate some days but we'd finish early everyday so like 5 hour days, for a 4 day shoot. This was nice mainly due to me making sure I'm not wasting their time and that they still have time for the rest of their day and obviously I get to make the short film I want to make. It worked well, I'd absorb all the stress and they get to have a nice easy day, which is what I really want for them especially when they'd help out for free and it feels rewarding at the end of the day :) (Edited: I made my first short film for my final year at university, I'm 22 years old so still very new to filmmaking but I love the craft. I also primarily worked on other short films through those 3 years as a DoP and sound recordist. Then for my final year I wrote and directed my first short film)
Could you do a video on the S5 and the nikon lense I literally want to get the a same lenses
I would love to! That's been the setup I've been shooting everything with and it has been great!
This is Excellent! You've definitely got a winner with the S5 and Ninja combo. 💪🏾
Thanks, I think so too!
Yes if you have very tight budget I would advice to anyone to go s5 ( used ) but otherwise Old AF Panasonic is so chaotic. As long time gh5/s5 shooter. I mastered their chaotic AF even with my skills about it I manage to miss some shots because I was on gimbal etc and sometimes even in good lighting condition, you have no idea why the af just goes retard** mode. I have MF lenses/fd lenses , but When im on gimbal I have to rely on a good AF. I even bought the 85 1.8 lumix instead of 85 1.4 sigma because it was said that lumix 85 1.8 had a better af . All being said I saved to pick the s5II but even if the new AF is finally usable and great , the fact that it still 4k60 crop. made me wait a bit. on maybe a s1h II. Even if , If I saw a S9 used at a good price , I might jump into.
Good AF is definitely very useful for gimbal work. I would probably reconsider going with the S5 if I used gimbals more often. Also, the S35 crop in 4K 60 can definitely be a deal breaker for some. Thanks for your comment!
@@ZacktheFilmnot for me. I shoot everything in 4k 50 and use a small and cheap but good apsc zoom from sigma.. to me the s5 is a super 35 camera
Well Yes, for the right price. Maybe more for photography. But since the s5II/X are pretty cheap (for Full-frame) i would go for the updated camera.
I wouldn’t disagree actually. Especially when compared to what a comparable A7IV goes for the S5ii/x is a steal. Although I could still see a case for the S5 if you did more narrative-focused work or needed a b-cam for the S5ii/x.
Ja the og s5 is perfect for photos at an unbelivable price. Its only 1000€! Where i live. You cant get a better photo camera for this kind of money
Nice video mate, loving the production quality in such early stages of your channel! I was surprised to see you were a smaller channel. You'll go far! I've got the s5 and I absolutely love it. I always wanted a Sony A7s4 or something but right now I'm very happy with the s5.
Thank you! I’ve been super happy with the S5. It does everything I need and I’m sure it’ll be a trusted tool for a long time. You can’t beat the price either.
what i dotn understand is why people like to make youtube videos in this aspect ratio other than the fact that you want to also use it for vertical platforms. but the info here is decent
It’s just a creative choice.
Why would you use such a shitty converter? The image you're getting looks worse than what the camera can deliver.
Nice job bro! You popped up in my suggested after a Jamie Windsor vid I watched. Keep it up 💯
Appreciate it!!
Brilliantly presented - and mesmerising images. A great tip too on the smoke machine. Appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just bought one off of eBay. I bought it for nostalgia reasons. Brings me back to when my dad would video me and my sister as a kid. I want that feeling with my kids.
Nice! Enjoy your new camera!
The best part was that I nabbed the camera for $5 at a thrift store fill a bag sale
Instant subscribe from me, Zack Bro! I LOVE retro cameras. Great Work, Man. 😎
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
What model is this one? Thx
This one is the TRV27
@@ZacktheFilm nice, thanks !
This looks so good, inspiring stuff!
Glad you think so!
Wonderful piece of art! Makes me want to make more with my Digital 8 camera. :)
Thank you! You absolutely should! It's surprisingly refreshing to work with compared to using modern cameras.
@@ZacktheFilm I guess YT doesn't notify me when I get a response. I've been using my Digital 8 camera more and more this year. I want to use it more creatively now.
I prefer MiniDV
I haven't tried MiniDV myself, but I'd like to! I will say I like the analog artifacts from the Hi8. I'm not sure if I would see as much of that on DV.
@@ZacktheFilm you might not as much if you use the firewire connection, however you'd probably get the analoge noise with inproved color/dynamic range when capturing through the av out.
@@clumpyschlipz7571 MINI DV is nice but dealing with a smaller physical tape, they are not as reliable. still I tend to prefer it. look into the TVR900 mini dv camera, it has setting options for eveything youd find on a modern digital cam.
really good video man! was astounded that you didn’t have more subscribers, thought you’d be at 10k at least.
Thanks! Maybe one day!
House of leaves reference
Funny how I thought “maybe I won’t shoot film, I’ll shoot tape so it’s cheaper and it’s sort of unique in today’s landscape” ALL OF A SUDDEN this video comes out lmao. Also, nice typewriter. I have the exact same one… are we telepathically connected?
Haha crazy how that happens!
This video is very high quality! Man, now I can claim that I was here before this blew up
Thank you so much!
this was an awesome idea bro
Glad you think so!
How doesn’t this have more views?? Great video
you're scrratching the surface. keep going
If you connect the camcorder to a HDMI converter into a 4K recorder and record it tapeless, it'll look a lot more cinematic and more HQ. I've been using this method for almost 2 years now and it's shockingly really good tapeless in RAW format.
If you also set the camera to 16:9 wide it'll give you actual widescreen, and lets you record at a lower shutter making it more cinematic looking
That could be a good video idea! I wonder if I can use my Ninja V to do this.
@@ZacktheFilm You can! I use my assassin for it and it works fine, just make sure to get the Ablewe brand of HDMI converters, the other brands tend to have issues
Sounds like I've got some testing to do!
@@ZacktheFilm I actually learned this technique from Tyler MacIntyre (The guy who directed The Gawkers from V/H/S 99) so thanks to him for teaching me this method, their short was filmed on a TRV940 HI8 camera with a ninja v!
Would you consider using this camera for something?
I've used as similar camera for something already!
3:28 There are documentaries on TH-cam (mainly Shorts) that use AI generated images, scripts, and speech.
First! Also fax
It will change things big time, hopefully make shitty cgi look good at the least. It’s amazing how fast things progress
bad choice of music and too loud also, it gets in the way of what your saying. You dont even need a music in the background you have a good microphone. See MKBHD sometimes when speaks its only his voice without any track
Thanks for the feedback! I think MKBHD is an excellent reference for this type of video format.
some constructive criticism: put the mic SOMEWHERE but don't hold it. try to freshen up the 90% talk with imagery. make a bold prediction and try to prove it. the way you present it's nothing but a summary. waaaaayyy less of your face, unless there is action. not gonna debate stache and chain, taste differs. and that's a good thing. check references (like cold fusion tv). besides that? good start!
Thanks for taking the time to provide some feedback! I think you're right, this video could benefit from an opening thesis of some kind, and maybe some more b-roll.
I think you’re pleasant to look at ! Nothing wrong with anything you did actually …
These are just tools. You can be a filmmaker still but instead of camera - if you choose so - use AI to generate content. 100% agree on stock footage though, it's dead.
It's going to be interesting to see a future where you're either making things solely with these tools or using a camera and doing it traditionally. It'll almost be like two different genres of filmmaking and storytelling altogether.
@@ZacktheFilm remember how digital revolutionised photography? I think this will be similar. But also traditional cameras will start having AI on the hardware. Studios will shoot and use AI live on the previews to modify the footage on the fly.
How do you think these AI tools are going to change the filmmaking industry?
Just came across your channel when searching for Stef Zack who did Elena Danaan’s intro vids recently which are utterly AMAZING❣️❣️ I liked Dr. Michael Salla’s but her’s are even better ❣️I’m unable to find him online AT ALL but probably expensive & already had someone in Fiver trying to overcharge me…🤑 I’m obscessed with learning which one I want to use then I’ll purchase but so far out of about 7 I have not been happy with what my prompts rendered in trial mode…I will not support the ones that discriminate against races like Gemini by G and a couple of others I tried . It’s also challenging trying to do it in a phone but Shouid be easy for the developers to make equal to using on a PC. What Ai apps would you suggest to buy since none are free except with limited credits etc.? Gonna check out ur other vids too. I’m an amateur but still go in T to teach myself how to do it and it’s really not that hard AT ALL! I even watched a few tuitorial on how to write prompts . I’m excited about it and since I now have been enlightened that it’s actually not artificial I’m even more excited ! @ZacktheFilm @ElenaDanaan @MichaelSalla
A very interesting and amazingly constructive look at technology and the industry as a whole. Thank you!
You can create consistent characters, styles etc. with ThinkDiffusion.
I just found out they added this feature to MidJourney as well. However, since these generative models use noise as a starting point; there will always be an element of randomness to the result you end up with. One of the big issues right now even with the character parameter is getting consistent lighting from shot to shot. Thanks for your comment!
Your videos are always so high quality Thank you for addressing this subject from your perspective!
Thank you for your kind words and for supporting the channel for so long! It means the world!
is that Letters To The Church by Francis Chan in the background?! anyway, love the video! personally, i think filmmaking is a fantastic medium for self-expression, mostly because the limits are theoretically endless, which means it can be whatever you want it to.
Thank you! And yes, that is Letters to the church. You have sharp eyes!
amazing work, you guys! the camcorder turned out to be perfect for this project
What are your thoughts about the medium of filmmaking generally? Let's start a conversation below!
I was just looking for something to watch, and when I saw your "add" got the impression it would be Something terrifying or silly, but really without even a word I found comfort in your video, in terms of the atmosphere and the photography. Thanks.
Thank you! We were definitely going for something non-traditional with this film. Leaning heavily into atmosphere was a big goal of ours, and I'm glad to hear we were able to achieve that!
hate it when i show up to tour a house and it's one of the dadgum ones that eat again
It happens to me every. single. time.
Nice! Would love to see and full length version
This is actually the whole thing! We shot it in less than an hour after a commercial shoot at this airbnb. We thought we might as well do a quick micro film while we were at it, but he have briefly considered doing something longer with this concept.
