Exactly when we need the surgery we actually praise The Lord when surgery takes place that’s how bad it gets you are right 🎉 Walk in water slow that will suffice as exercise, control sugar intake

When we get injured out of nothing and herniate that easy we must pay attention to Instability of the spine

Nerves have memory. We take discomfort and no nerve compression. Make sure when fusion gets done in the future screws do not migrate to touch layers of spinal Cord.

I just one week after my laminectomy and discectomy on L4-L5. The doctor told me that it's gonna be a small incision with endoscopic procedure. Next I came out of the operating room 10:00 am feeling fine and I was able to walk one hour after the surgery. But around 5:00 pm all the anesthetics worn out start experiencing the worst pain I ever had. I requested pain killer, I got it immediately through IV help a lot but they have to repeat it every five hour until I totally past out. Anyway after the second night I was stable enough to go home. After six days I removed my bandage and I look at the incision and surprise that was a seven centimeter incision on my back nothing like they promise. I had a traditional incision no endoscopic surgery with a less than an inch incision. I felt disappointed now understood why did I had such excruciating pain on the night of the surgery. Obviously when you have that large incision our body experiencing more pain and more trauma. On the positive side my sciatic pain is ninety percent gone around the incision is still pain but manage without pain medication. I'm walking slowly every day. Doctor advise me to take it easy up to six weeks because that much time need for the disk to heal. I'm crossing fingers to get better and hopefully never ever have to go through such a pain.

How long does or did it take for 100% of any numbness to disappear? I have surgery coming up soon and remain upset and confused why I can only walk in sandals. Upon any attempts to walk in gym shoes, the electric shock occurs on the palm of my left foot and ends at the left big toe. Have you regained full mobility of the affected leg? I want to be able to run again. For now, I'm doing a lot of physical therapy and it's helping. Please advise

Hi … my name is Jill I’m 52 .. have back issues for a while now… long story short I’ve seen 2 surgeons.. the first consult was either an orthopedic spine surgeon,, the 2nd was with a neurosurgeon. Basically both said that I need to have a laminectomy with a fusion at level 4/5. I also have faucet disease along with generative joint disease, as well as spondyolesis which means that I have a shift or spine instability with a 6 mm cyst pressing on my l5…… I don’t want the fusion because I would like to keep my mobility as I workout 6 days a week and don’t want to lose my mobility… I feel so scared… like u, I wonder if I “need the surgery” or thinking that my pain is tolerable enough. I have no one to talk to about this… not at all sure what to do at this point….😢

If I made it through 2 hip replacements I think I will be fine. I use a walker because I have no balance and impingements give you cramps in your feet and legs.

Thank you so much. I have fairly good on-site into people, and I felt your pain so to speak. But I still don’t know if I will have to go through this same surgery, but, it is looking like it from what I have been reading on these TH-cam videos. But you and two other wonderful people have dedicated their time to describe their experience with the post surgery. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your time and history post surgery. Thank you, thank you. I am just 81 y/o so I do expect things to be somewhat different, but I think I will come out the other end with no regrets. Chet Marcotti

Thanks for posting. You just about touched on everything that has been on my mind after this surgery. And yes, after watching many many others on here, I’m feeling better about my recovery taking longer than I’ve screen others results. I had an L3 L4, L4 L5, L5 S1 laminectomy, and an L4 L5, L5 S1 fusions. At his has been my second surgery in a year on my back due to congenital stenosis compounded by heavy weight training over the years. My first surgery was laminectomies and fusions of T4 thru T8, which I faired much better for recovery times. I’m told that it being on the back of my ribs areas and their relative lack of flexibility he ultimate impact was less painful and complicated than my lumbar surgeries. I’m going to take it one week at a time, like you suggest. I’m at my 4 week mark now, and I’m just now letting up on my pain meds and muscle relaxers. I’d been compressed for years, and was told that due to such a long term compressions of my spine, it’s normal to ave “Angry Nerves”, which sounds similar to your experiences. When you used that term, I knew your surgeon had told you similarly as mine. But again, thanks for sharing your experience. I feel less worried about the pace of my recovery.

I had a discectomy at 16 on L3-L4 and L4-L5 from a trampoline accident. 16 years later I had a laminectomy on both again from a trampoline accedent. 10 years later and 2 weeks ago I had a laminectomy on L5-S1 due to spinal arthritis and stenosis. Delt with it for 6 months and it makes living no fun. If I was living 500 years I would probably be dead at 16 or committed suicide from the pain.

What pain meds were you on? I’m taking 800 mg ibuprofen 3 times a day and it’s stopping me from getting steroids shots or surgery but when I don’t take ibuprofen my blood pressure shots up to 180/101 and I get shakes so bad and head banging and my heart rate went up to 150 with panic attacks

I also have right butt, hip, knee and leg pain for years. I kept getting shuffled between a hip and spine doctor. With epidural and cortisone injections that didn't work. I finally found a 2nd opinion with a spine doctor who sees some pressure on the nerves from L5 disk. He wants to go in there and "scoop" it out to relieve the pain from what he sees on xrays. First step is to get a more recent MRI and inject me with epidural in that area to confirm this is where pain is coming from.
