Spoilers from ANSWER ARCS FOLLOWS FROM HERE ON (A minor scene but there's some spoiler either way): The cheese scene in Ep6 is a show of how much Umineko made me question myself and change my views. When I heard about the question my first thought was "what's the shape?" and I almost reached the true answer. But when every character clued at 3 as I was reading I assumed it was a cheese wheel. (My boyfriend reading also said 3) I stopped thinking. Why did I do that? Because everyone said it was 3. I realised that I had lost something I prided myself as a child. To always think and stand by my thoughts. I stopped thinking because I took what the game presented me at ace value. When Battler suggested an alternative I immediately got what he meant but because I stopped thinking til then, I only got it when said by Battler. I realised I need to get that back. My confidence to state what I believe no matter what.

I was so burnt out by the end of Reverie so I came looking for a recap/summary. You hit the nail on the head on how the series is so unwilling to let some of their characters just simply die. Building up scenes of supposed death just to bring them back half a game later cheapens the experience as a whole. This is why I enjoyed Sky/Zero arcs better as the writing is much more tight. That said I'm looking forward to fresh new faces in Daybreak. Thanks for the video btw!

I feel like the Quartz system was a downgrade coming down from Azure. Personally liked the puzzle aspect of learning arts. Another thing I noticed was that character balance was a bit of a mess. Doesn't get much better in CS2 but it is noticeable in CS1. Fie and Jusis in particular have difficulty fitting in the party since their niches weren't really there until CS2. Fie doesn't have her ranged counter attacks, making Gaius the better evasion tank. And Jusis lacks the master quartz that empowers both strength and arts as well as Royal Shield. There are also characters like Machias that takes a bit of creative thinking to get his playstyle going, he wants a lot of debuff quartz in his orbment.

I think Rean’s self sacrificial nature is fine even in CS3. It’s directly connected to his depression. He was improving in CS2 but then Crow died. And then he was conscripted by Osborne. And then he returns to Thors after all his friends graduated and moved on with their lives. It makes perfect sense for his depression to relapse and he falls right back into old habits. I also think his regression is crucial to his character development by the end of CS4 and Reverie.

So I'm reading the manga for for 2 reasons, one my laptop is terrible and struggles to run even basic stuff and 2 I did watch about 10 hours of a no com playthru on TH-cam and while I was interested in what was going on, my attention span is both dogwater and I was kinda half asleep. But reading it's manga, is so far I've finished episode 2 and it's just fun to see what Beatrice will do just to mess with Battler as well as the mysteries of the island itself. I may not be particularly a fan of Visual Novels in general aside from Ace Attorney and Danganronpa 2 but this is something I would recommend to anyone

I wish these games had more voice acting because I often find myself zoning out after reading all the dialogue and then having to watch these recap videos

In some of your gameplay snippets, I can see you are using turbo mode, and during the dialogue sequences when it's on, it looks like you have auto text advance on but the text boxes don't advance super quick. I am on cs3 on PC and when using turbo mode I really can't have auto text advance on at the same time or else the text boxes go by way too quick.

16:00 God, I want so much to have 1% of that type of experience on my region... Oh and the "Smash players only play Plataform Fighters" take is the most real thing in the world, I say this for myself, even though today I am able to play other FG sub-genres without finding it a torturous experience and understand the appeal, I don't find any of them that interesting as PF's.

Trails the 3rd is a masterclass in RPG songwriting. Especially the battle themes. Til the Night of Glory is the biggest standout

although far from spoiler free even on the "non-spoiler" parts, this is genuinely THE best way to recommend Umineko to laymen. VN fans generally extremely despise spoilers and i wouldn't recommend this video to the VN community because of its nature, but generally others are way more lenient to spoilers, especially if it's only about the early chapters. great video, i'll probably use this video as reference if i were to recommend Umineko to my irl friends.

Smash and particularly brawl was everything when i was young Its kinda strange how big of an impact it had I have started to play a lot of guilty gear in the past year but i dont think its comparable to smash at all it feels completely different

Man i was in the crowd by myself during that Majin match but a small group people of behind noticed. Before we knew it we were all yelling tand screaming throughout the match, then proceeded to go crazy as neegan was announced lol. Always great to see how some of players fall into the genre, thanks for sharing!

Cold steel 3 isn’t a bad game by any means but it’s hands down my least favorite. I think my biggest gripes are 1. Solidifying the cold steel problem of no one really dying. All of a sudden everyone who’s ever died is brought back and it makes me feel nothing at what should be a shocking ending. Obviously they aren’t gonna kill off three major characters if they can’t even keep the minor ones dead 2. General pacing and structure of the field studies. They just felt too long and not interesting enough. You technically only visit two brand new locations and honestly they’re not even that interesting. It also made me feel less connected to the branch campus compared to the main campus since you were there for less time then the main campus. 3. The plot twist build up. The end of game plot twists are cool but they have literally no build up to them. Unlike in sky FC, zero, and CS1 none of the previous chapters build to the curse and ash’s assassination attempt, it’s just “hey orobouros is doing stuff with aions”, something that doesn’t even get a proper conclusion and reason for until CS4. It makes the end of game cliffhanger feel cheap, rather then sky FC’s and CS 1’s cliffhanger they don’t resolve anything in this game before the plot twist, they just throw everything at you at once and then say “oh now you have to play cold steel 4 to see a resolution to literally any plot point”. Not to mention with that many plot points the game struggles to give any of them appropriate time. The branch campus and main campus rivalry gets introduced and then goes away until the end of the game, whereas the class 1 and class 7 rivalry of CS 1 and 2 felt like it got proper time to develop. Again, I still enjoy CS3 but I just can’t get past all my gripes

I didn't play visual novel, only manga... At it has been 10/10 for me in every chapter.... What I loved is that they also changes the Text Colors In the manga depending upon the statement... And art style of manga makes it quite intriguing as well.

As someone who just finally finished Umineko after trying to solve it for 16 years without talking to anyone about it or searching it on Google, etc. - Listening to others praise it makes me feel extremely emotional.

After being disappointed in cs3 hoping cs4 would be better i ended up dropping it in act 2. So now here i am watching this so i can go & play Reverie

I really enjoy your videos and speculation so I hope this difference in opinion doesn't come off the wrong way. Act 2, the way I thought of it in my head was as follows. There's a war about to start, you need all hands on deck. This is the assembling of "the avengers" or whole marvel spectrum, so to speak. But that's just my opinion. Thanks for an awesome video!

To be fair, Lloyd's route isn't the only one that is a rehash of older games. Almost the entire plot of the game is. For example, in Rean's route alone: We get tested for no reason; Olivier is missing with no evidence; Terrorists underneath Heimdallr; Border conflict in Nord; Climb Mishelam Tower for the true villain reveal; Surprise! It was Ishmelga all along; Rean confronting the same character flaws for the 5th time. I could keep going. Even the Rufus route has us find a homonculus in a briefcase, and all routes combine for a 3-pronged assault on Crossbell before the final dungeon rises in the distance (again just like Azure). Possibly the weakest story in the franchise, but fortunately the main story is only like 20% of the game (and everything else around it is fire), even if 80% of this video is the main story haha. Also, nice use of One Who Bears Fangs At God!

I don't like Rean because I dislike harem protagonists. I don't like the concept and I didn't like watching everyone throw their panties and the kitchen sink at him for bonding events instead of just having bonds that are "just friends". For 4 games they did this shit and even his students did this which felt fucking creepy. Then the other thing that burns my ass about him is that he gains the title of Divine Blade, but yet acts like the most passive jobber in the world and after 5 games still doesn't get he needs to be confident in himself or else he will always be shit at combat. Even in reverie, he jobs against Shizuna because yet again, he doesn't believe in himself. He's always bitching he has to train more, not that he can take a fight and he's strong enough. And his entire personal monolog is "I have to be strong enough to stand on my own so no one will help me" but yet never strives to be stronger or succeeds at being stronger. It's always bitching he needs to git gud, but never actually gits gud worthy of a divine blade. Then finally over 4 games, he says "I'm strong enough on my own to protect the ones I love" fails and every game there's without fail some 10 minute monologe about how Rean isn't strong enough to do it on his own and he needs to trust his friends more to have his back. Which always ends with "I guess you guys are right, I'll trust you more" to only have this same conversation and character arc next game yet again. Then in CS3-4 it goes from his classmates/equals having his back, to his class babysitting him when he goes full retard because even in a teacher position, he has to have his fucking students wipe his ass and do the emotional labor he cannot do. Oh also every time he fights anyone worth shit they keep saying the same thing "Bro stop holding back, address that shit inside of you that is cucking you from being the warrior you can be." and then he never does.

After the crossbell saga, this arc of Cold was terrible for me. I almost gave up on Trails, I could only play the first Cold, the rest I saw better on TH-cam, and I still felt like I was robbed. I can't believe Cold and Crossbell are from the same playthrough. I hope Reviere improves the thing

Took a little over a year to finish the Sky trilogy. Now my adventure takes me to Crossbell.

Still utterly insane that a fighting game _spinoff_ is still seemingly canon

Yeah, I started with Cold Steel, but I decided very early in that I would go back and play the older games after that game, but ended up having to play CS2 first, because I didn't want to leave on that cliffhanger. So I went back to the Sky games after CS2 and while I was playing them, the Crossbell games released in the West. So I played those too, before going back into Cold Steel and I feel that was the best decision I could've made, because it seriously enhanced the experience of playing CS3+4 for me. I'm in the final act of Reverie now, but I still have so much sidestuff to do, that I think I will still take 2-3 weeks, before I can finish that game.
