So when you change key on the voyager does that work with the darktime? How do you set that up? Synthwave style. I like it. I want to buy the dark time for my Vermona
the Voyager has a switch that is called Env Gate that can be in keyboard position or in on/external. In the second case, the keyboard is not triggering the env ( that are triggered by the dark time ), but it gives you the possibility to change the notes. I don't know how it will work with the Vermona, since I never tried it.
@ cheers. I’ve a moog sub 25. Could try it on that. Gd luck 🍀
@@d-rantz443 for example my minimoog model d, is not changing the tonality of the programmed sequence on the dark time. instead, if i use the beatstep pro, i can change the tonality of the programmed sequence, hitting the pads on it

Sergio - there are so many sound design tricks you have used in your patches. Today I learned how to make a filter become an oscillator. I've read the theory, and after exploring this patch I now hear it for myself. This is the patch in your sound bank: FMAHHHHH SYNTH1 only: Disable all Oscillators in the mixer and run the sequence. You hear a high pitched squeaky beat that starts bright and gets darker. I figured out that it's the Ladder Filter being driven into self oscillation. LFO2 (sawtooth wave, synced to 1 whole note) is moving the Ladder Filter cutoff (100%) for every note in the sequence. I got lost for several hours just exploring this technique! If anyone has this sound bank, try this: LFO2: tweak sync division (1 to 2), sync timing (dotted) and fade out (1/8) to completely change the effect of the Ladder Filter self oscillation sound.
Thanks :). By the way, besides all the technical talking, i realized that a very good sound design, starts when you manage and know so good the theory, that you don't need even to think about it, when you are creating something. I don't know if i explained it correctly... my poor English ;)
Nice job bad ass synth
Thanks😀
I had to search for Robots, but now I hear what you were going for. And you got it! I tried creating the same sound on the Moog One, but it doesn’t have that “in your face” punch. The mini Moog sounds like a hammer snapping down every time you play a key. I wonder why it’s hard to get that on the One? Anyway, I learned a lot trying. ;-)
If I remember well, I also tried to do on the Moog One and I was pretty close. I had to try again, because I did not save the patch😀. Anyway the envelopes and the filter response are different. But you can play shaping the decay shape ( exp, lin or log ) on the Moog One
I like the simple repeating sequence you’re running in this demo. Very subtle filter modulation gives a nice sense of easy motion.
Sergio, this is an awesome demonstration! I aspire to create something as beautiful as this on my Moog One.
Thanks:)
Hi Sergio. Very nice example of what one can do with three sequencers! I’m wondering if this patch is included in any of your sound banks? I have them all, so let me know which patch and I’ll go look it up.
thank you. I am 99% sure that is in one of my sound banks. I think not in Modern & Classic, but one of the others. By the way, i will check as soon as possible and let you know ;)
Great tutorial Sergio! It’s really helpful when you show the settings in the mod matrix and then demo the sound resulting from those modulations. I don’t own a Waldorf quantum, but I can apply some of these techniques to sound design on other synths.
Thanks:) Yes, when you understand the basic concepts, you can apply them to other synths. Of course you may have different responses with similar settings. You just have to find the sweet spot you want. About the Quantum, is an incredible synth that sounds great and is the sound designer dream
Thank you Sergio for this and your other Moog One tutorials. I have all 3 of your Moog One sound banks and am learning a lot from studying them. You have clearly taken the time to understand this synth! I wonder if any of your patches are using the "iterative functions"? I am trying to make them work, by can't hear any changes. I don't understand when V (function's result from previous pass) gets updated. I would expect the OSC1 Frequency to change every time a key is pressed when using this Mod. Source: Constant (40%) Controller: Mod Wheel (40%) Transform: C(V+S) Destination: OSC1 Frequency This is the explanation from the manual: ITERATIVE FUNCTIONS: For the functions below which use the letter “V”, V is the function’s result value from the previous pass. This allows for feedback and repeating cycles. C(S-V) Subtract V from SOURCE and multiply it with CONTROLLER Rick
Hello Rick. Thank you for your comment:) I spent a lot of time studying synths in general;). You can also watch my Waldorf Quantum sound banks, just to see my work.😀😀 Anyway I don't remember if I used these functions in my sound banks ( but I think yes ). As soon I will have a bit of time, I will check it. About the variables and the functions, if I remember correctly, in the manual there is nothing written. It is written in the 1.3 firmware update pdf. By the way, maybe I will make a video about it ( time permitting ).😀
You’re correct, nothing written in the manual. I only found documentation in the 1.3 firmware update PDF. A video about the iterative functions would be awesome! Thanks.
How do you feel about the Mini Moog after using? I would think it sounds better than the digital VSTs. How does it compare with the One? Im thinking the one can only replicate 80% of thevsound from the Mini but I have never used one.
I feel that is an astonishing machine!!! Before to buy, I liked it as an object to desire because of the synth history, and I was a bit undecided if to buy or not. At the end I decided to buy ( considering that I never had the chance to try one ) and.... it completely blew my mind. I am talking about the sound and the ability and the simplicity to create sounds that you would never think to design with such a simple and limited synth. And when you hear them, they have something special, organic. Something that you can appreciate just using it. I suggest you to watch this video : th-cam.com/video/tVsXLwNuZIo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=J-s-BLK8-zmiUJm4 😀
You might be able to attempt something like this on the Moog One. Synth1 for arpeggiator, synth2 for pad, synth3 to create the sounds he created using the miniMoog. It might be a fun exercise!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Sergio. I wanted to leave a comment about the Moog One patches (Works, Beyond Analog, Modern and Classic) that you created...and I bought. I'm going through them one by one, learning things I never knew one could do. It's like I'm back in school again. There are so many techniques I'm learning and I can't thank you enough for sharing these! I will be watching your Moog One tutorials again now. Rick
Thank You very much for your feedback. I don't remember if you are italian or not, and if i already asked you this question;) . By the way, yes. The One is a complex machine that deserves time and respect. There is a comment on my latest sound bank, where one person compared my OBX8 patch directly with his OBX8, and he was amazed how they are similar. This to say that the One doesn't sound cold. It just has to be properly programmed.
No, sorry. Not Italian. Please tell me where to see and send comments about your Moog One programming. As I learn more, many questions also arise. 🤨

Fantastic work. I'm a big fanboy of the MoogOne, just bought this collection, and when I reached the presets "OB-X8" I simply compared them to the real thing which is fortunately positioned directly on top of the MoogOne. Hell, yeah! It's very questionable if anyone needs an OB-X8. The Moog does the job extremely well, if not better. The Moog's SVF filter can do 95% of what the OB-X8 can do with all it's variations that cost a lot of money. Yes, the Moog costs more than the OB-X8, but it has double voice cards, Eventide FX, a cool sequencer, unlimited patches, a much better key bed, and limitless modulation abilities. Great presets, well worth the few bucks. Only the ordering process and documentation are... well... but once you're through it, it's amazing stuff.
Thank you for appreciating my work:). I think most of people think that to replicate a sound of a given synth on another one, you have to select the same waveforms, the same filter cutoff position and so on. Totally wrong. For example on the OBX8, when you switch on saw and square on the same OSC, it will give you a totally different result from a Prophet 5/10 or a Moog One. And yes... to design the OB X8 patch i had to deconstruct it on the OBX8 and slowly recreate on the One. By the way, hear also the 2 OSC Fat Poly ( i think the name is correct ). A 2 OSC patch without any fx that sounds so fat, organic ....And last: what you did not like about the purchase process? The site is not mine:( . So the process is managed by Gumroad. I am sorry. And about the documentation? I ask because i would like to improve what is not going well and make my customers happier 😀
The Moog One is a never to be repeated tour de force. I love mine. 😊
agree with you:)
I love how meaty the One (16 voice version) sounds. I mean… 🥩
Moog one is a programmer synth. muse a player’s synth. You can dial in great sounds fast. The One needs programming skills. But when you know how to program it, it can sound more diverse than the muse.
I completely agree with you😀
I had both. And sold an 8th voice Muse. I am sorry but the One oscillators do not resemble any classic moog oscillators. Great feature set and build quality but if the sound source is better in Muse and I would also argue filters, there you have it. Muse >One
Thanks for your comment. But something is not clear. You had both and you sold an 8 voice Muse? And i am not agree with you. Sure the Muse is more for instant gratification and much more easy to program. The One is hard to program, but it can sound very fat. I suggest you to watch at 15:47 2 Osc Fat Poly. Just 2 oscillators, without any effect and no unison was used. I think it sounds fat, warm, organic. By the way, time will tell if the One will be appreciated. Of course the Muse will sell much more ( almost 1/4 of the Moog One 16 price ).😀
@ sorry I sold my 8 voice moog one. I had both for about a month and decided the One was not the moog poly I wished for. The muse is. Yes the one is more expensive way more functionalities, better keybed, better finishes, but what I care is the sound and since taste is subjective I preferred the muse. Very nice patches by the way.
Also maybe better for the type of music I like. If you are into cinematic, evolving landscapes, experimental ambient, the one is great. For synth pop, 80s music the muse ticked the right boxes.
@@adrianmuller4189 yes, i understand your point of view. I own also a Prophet 10 rev 4 and an OBX8. They are instant gratification, with a HUGE sweet spot, that the Moog One misses. And thank you for your comment on my patches 😀

Muse>One based on sound. But the One obviously has a crazy feature set.
@@BullyMaguire4ever I don’t know about the sound. For sure the Muse is more immediate to use for a faster gratification. The One is not so easy to program and there are bad sounds around . But thank you for your comment 😀
The Muse isn’t > One on sound. It just isn’t. But it is true that you can drive the oscillator more so it has that up its sleeve. The one isn’t as immediate for sure. But that’s not what it’s about. It rewards the deep dives. And to use its a dream. The UI and physical design (it’s an Alex Hartmann design like all the best synths) is fantastic and beautiful. The build? Well, it’s an Asheville era synth and that will always be special.
@@final_mile_music9713 I agree with you. I remember the Hartmann Neuron, even if I could not try one, But what an intriguing synth 😍

@@final_mile_music9713 my best congrats ;) looking at it, it has something like the neuron ( I mean esthetically ). Anyway, please, let me know your impressions about it.
This sounds fantastic. I wouldn’t say the MUSE or The One is better than the other, they are different instruments. I really like my MUSE. I also have an OBX8. So these two provide different flavors. The One does sound more open than the MUSE, at least to my ears.
Thank you😀.I have nothing against the Muse. My provocation was just because the Moog One has been " attacked " for the last period, mostly by people that even never tried it. This is incredibly silly. Anyway i also own an OBX8, a Prophet 10 rev 4 and lately i finally bought a Model D reissue. These synth are raw analog goodness without any compromise. The Moog One has to be accurately programmed otherwise can sound bad, whereas the OBX8, the Prophet 5/10 and the Model D, no matter how you move the knobs, they always sound incredibly well. At the end, i love my synths as you love yours. And this is great 😀
@@smvproducer Oh, I can even make my OB-X8 sound really weak and bad, same for my Muse, my Subsequent37, my Udo SuperGemini and even my overrated (not by me) Jupiter 8. With my P5/10, my Voyager, my Omega8 or my Matriarch it's actually not that easy. Anyways: You are so right, I cannot hear that endless bashing of the Moog One anymore. It has been present from day 1, and I really can't explain it. I mean, anyone who would take your headphones and play your sequence "Gram Bite" as an example will be blown away by the well balanced, almost mastered sound that comes out of this machine. There is NO other synth that can do this. Only the 3rd Wave has the same magic to it, but the FX are not on par with the ONE. Did I say FX? Oh, this will raise a s***storm again 🤪
@@MFASonic yes... social media are made for s*** storms 😂. It seems that people are more interested to blame something or someone, rather than improve themselves. About the synth you mentioned, i also have the OBX8, the Prophet 10, the Voyager, the Quantum ( that for me is an incredible machine) and lastly i finally bought a Minimoog Model D reissue, that trust me, is impossible to make sound bad. Anyway these synths are more for a fast gratification. The Moog One needs to be programmed properly and wisely. By the way, why do you think that the Jupiter 8 is overrated? Since you own one, i would like to know your opinion, because i never heard one in real. Just youtube videos. And thanks for your comment 😀
@@smvproducer Sorry for the late reply. The Jupiter 8 is cool for what it does, and it's a go-to synth for production sounds in pop music for sure. It is also not to blame for all the noise and maintenance headache it produces, since it is almost as old as me. But it has not nearly the fun factor, the possibilities nor the features of the MoogOne, the 3rd Wave or the Quantum (which is interestingly not my favorite in terms of sound). The Jupiter is very limited. It should sell for 5k, but not for 20+k in my opinion. And it will, sooner or later. Admittedly, I would not sell it, but that's only because I was lucky and got one for 2000 EUR back in 2002. A price that it's definitely worth 😂

'll never sell my One and will take it any day over a Muse. But I have now also bought a Muse and really like it. It's definitely more for people who may not program that well, as well everyone knows it's lighter in weight and smaller. It's more hard punching and gritty. Like a poly Matriarch in a sense. But it's not as full and deep as the One. I can achieve just about anything with the One when my friends who come over to program and create. They haven't been able to create as complex patches on the Muse, as of course it doesn't have the capabilities to do so. I don't think people who own the Muse should try to compare it to the One if they've never owned a One. One users can damn near go their whole life and keep coming across new capabilities. I don't get that feeling with the Muse.
My title was a provocation, as i already said in another reply. I think that the Muse is a good synth, but i never had the chance to try one. And by the way, i agree with your comment 100%. What it makes me mad, is that many people are telling that the One is sounding bad and stupidities like this. And it comes to my mind an Esopo's fairytale where a fox was trying to catch some grape, but since it was too high and she could not catch it, she said the famous statement ^ nondum matura est" . So, in general i am talking about the bad habit that people have, to despise what they cannot have.
@@smvproducer yes I totally agree. I never understood that mentality. Just because I cannot afford anything does not mean that I think its bad. It is fun to look forward to things. Now I can buy things I could only dream of when I was younger including the One. I also do not understand why so many complain about Moog. They do incredible instruments from what I can see.
I like the Muse (which- while far less expensive- ain’t cheap), but the Moog One is a dream synth.
The Muse seems nice and has a nice sound to it. But the One has so many features, it is really quite incredible. The way you can modulate the data is extremely powerful. It also has a large array of fx that are really quite useful.

Moog One is a modern classic … I`ll never sell mine … Amazing Sounds ! Thanks !
I agree with you. The title was just a provocation, especially for people that say the One sounds bad. I will never sell mine too. Thank you for the comment 🙏😃
@@smvproducer I never understood why people say that Moog One sounds bad. I do not even think its hard to make good sounds with it from Init. It has a quite unique sound though.
Muse suona meglio?
Suonano sempre bene. E grazie per i complimenti 😀🙏
Moog One all the time, Muse is in a lower market segment
@@pedrogomis yes. Agree 100%. The title was a provocation for people that say the Moog One sounds bad 😀
@@smvproducer the "ones" that say that is because they cannot afford it
@@pedrogomis indeed. Totally agree.
Muse seems to have a bit different sound that the One. It seems to have a bit deeper more overdriven base? Or what do you think? I think the biggest benefit with Muse is that its a third of the price.
@@andreasoberg2021 I never had the chance to try it. Anyway I think it is far less complex and more immediate than the One. And it costs less than 1/3 and this is very appealing ;)
