Hello my name is Nathan Andrew Davis; I'm an elevator filmier, an artist, an expert on CGI, etc., and I live in Butler, PA. I am probably Butler's second elevator photographer and this is my channel and I hope you enjoy it. I have been making videos since I can remember. I started my company Nathan Davis' Videos back in 2007 when I left Tommy Studios which was a film club group back in middle school. I have also developed an interest in elevator filming all thanks to Pittsburgh's first elevator photographer and Butler, PA native Patrick Ned. I don't know how it really took off but that was one of the people that inspired me as well as arguably the grand father of elevator vloging and filming Andrew Reams AKA TH-cam user DeselDucy! Most of my videos on my channel are of elevators but sometimes I'll throw in some other stuff. So I hope you enjoy my channel!

So did this elevator have a roof, it look like there was grating on top. Awesome find btw, that looks fun to ride.
Thank you! I'm kinda shocked and glad that I'm getting a lot of comments and views on my videos. It's not everyday you get to see a gated manually controlled Otis, let alone, one with a "pull-the-rope" controller.
@@NathanDavisVideos yea that is a fantastic piece of machinery. I am making a horror game so I was doing some research on old elevators and found this. I didn’t realize how cool these older elevators could be.
There are three elevators in the lobby. The elevator on the left is the only one with the side door. The side door only opened on the "G" level, the "M" level, and the "L" level. The "G" level was the lowest level where the housekeeping department is. The "M" level is the Mezzanine level which leads to the loading dock and the food store rooms. Then at the "L" level, the side door opens to the kitchen service area and was used for the room service carts. The side door elevator has been out-of-service from about 2020 to the present. All of the motor assemblies on the roof are all dated 1973. The hotel used Otis Elevator repair until 2022 when they switched to Schindler. The reason for the switch was because Schindler was able to provide more spare boards and parts to keep the elevators running. The buttons on the elevators were changed, but the cars themselves are original to the building when it opened in 1973 as a Sheraton Hotel. Just wanted to share a little info. I worked there from 1985 till 1988 and then again from 2016 till 2024 when the hotel closed.
Oh... Thanks for the information. I assume these might have been Otis with circle touch originally.

NEW 2024 TOUR OF THIS _JCPENNEY_ *PREMIERING SOON!* (6/3/2024) What has changed within the past 6 years? I'll post a link to that video below: th-cam.com/video/Y7d7GzP12vs/w-d-xo.html
Is this JCPenney store closing?
As far as I know... I'm not sure. Probably not. I haven't really seen any news on this store being among one of the JCPenney stores that are planned to be closed. Hopefully it won't because this actually happens to be the one I used to visit when I was a kid. It also happens to be the ONLY ORIGINAL anchor tenant left in the mall that actually dates back to when the whole center first opened nearly 50 years ago.
HEY NATHAN , I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU UPLOAD MORE VIDEOS OF YOU REVISITING THE ELEVATORS HERE AROUND BUTLER AND THE PITTSBURGH AREA. I WAS A HUGE FAN OF THOSE AND STILL AM. "SAID IN SQUIDWARDS VOICE"
Cool vid nate d!!!🤩🤩🤩
Get a job and maybe you would use the credit union back for a real reason. Like banking money.
i just heard that macys is gonna be closing soon!
Well better NOT BE! It's like one of the more busier stores in the area. If any Macy's would be closing, it would most likely be the one at the Mills.
i think i went to its macys a few times while it was active and i also when in there when it was abandoned i like it
The Premier Imaging store where the Ritz used to be is actually a really cool store. They're in North Hills Village now, in the part of the mall that's still enclosed. You should take a look at it sometime, it's pretty interesting. I don't remember the mall being this crappy. I understand why it's such a strange layout with the history and everything, but it's still really weird. Guess that's what happens when you're in pittsburgh lol.
Actually about the Premier Imaging store at North Hills Village, I ACTUALLY DID checked it out, and it is pretty interesting. Matter of fact; I actually did a quick video on it as well which I'm going to share the link to below: th-cam.com/video/HBUysRngbU0/w-d-xo.html
@@NathanDavisVideos Sorry, I didn't see that on your channel? I have a few questions about that video: 1. You mentioned a train at around 0:35 . Was that like a little kids train ride, or something cooler? 2. Is the premier imaging studio former storefront, or is it former hallway? Are the walls there modern after the building of the exterior only tennants, or were they there before? 3. Do you know of any old floor plans or ariel footage or something of the mall? I'm confused about the layout. Thank you so much!!!!!
Thanks for the memories. I used to work on the A/C at the Montgomery Ward store for its last decade of its existence.
Glad you liked it. I'm shocked that I'm beginning to get comments or views on my OLD videos on here. Thanks for commenting.
Say do you got any photos of the former Montgomery Ward store just before it closed by chance? Especially ones of the interior of the store? I vaguely remember some details of the store like the old HVAC vents on the ceiling (since you used to work on the system there) and that one little random enclosed glass section by one of the exterior entrances of the store, which may or may not have been a storefront display window. I would REALLY LOVE to see those photos! Let alone... Any of the mall itself.
@@NathanDavisVideos Sorry, I don’t have any photos. To be honest I almost forgot about the mall. When I went there I used to enter the store in the rear where the beauty salon was which would’ve been the rear left of the store which would’ve shared a wall with the mall. The HVAC units were on the roof. When you entered by the salon, you would make a left towards the side street. This was a hallway that led to the stockroom where there was a set of metal steps that led to the roof hatch. About 1/2 way up there was a landing where we kept spare parts. I also remember there were these white structures on the roof at the end which I guess were supposed to hide the HVAC units so you couldn’t see them from the ground or that side road. Or maybe it was a Montgomery Ward sign? I also seem to remember that the front part of Wards was added on sometime after the store’s initial opening. There was an expansion joint on the roof that you had to walk over about 2/3 of the way across the roof walking towards 356. The units on the front were slightly newer than the units behind them. I remember my boss telling me they did expand the store early on. I would guess this would’ve been in the late 70s or early 80s. 99% of the time I spent there was on the roof so I don’t really remember a whole lot about the interior of the store. Perhaps the enclosed glass section you’re asking about was the original front entrance to the store prior to the expansion? I used to take care of a couple Wards stores in Western PA. I lived in Pittsburgh at that time. I remember the Butler store was the biggest of them. One thing I honestly can’t remember was the auto center. Was it a separate building or was it attached to the store? I remember having my company van serviced at their auto center a few times. They had a guy there that was excellent at alignments on the Ford vans I used to drive back then. Part of my job was servicing the heaters in the auto center which I remember had about 10 or 12 service bays. Just can’t remember if it was physically attached to the main store or not. It was at the other stores I serviced but this one is just unclear to me. I want to say it wasn’t. I still occasionally pass by there. I’m going to have to stop and take a look around there to see. I haven’t stopped there since they tore the Wards down. I do remember those yellowish tan bricks that are the only remaining part of the Wards store. Also funny we used to call it Monkey Wards too. I wish I had pictures to share but hopefully some of this information will somehow help you in some way. If I remember anything else that may help I will certainly share it with you. Maybe I’ll remember something when I stop and take a look around.
@@mikee2923 I wish somebody could dig-up old photos of the store. I would REALLY LOVE to see them.
@@mikee2923 Also yes; the Auto Center was a separate building. It was located in the parking lot of Target next door to First National Bank on the side where 356 is. I remember that place as well.
That store must have been struggling even while it was open because parts of the upper level were walled off
Yeah it kinda seemed that way. TBH... I'm not sure when they started closing off sections of the store. Maybe around the time when Macy's took it over? That's what they did to the old furniture gallery and parts of the former Kaufmann's at Millcreek Mall.
Also, never sell yourself short. I would avoid doing risky stuff just for views. Your content speaks for itself. You could also always revisit some of the elevators or locations you did. For example, the current state of the clearview mall.
Yeah... About that (regarding the Clearview Mall). I might try to do an update video on it, although in the past, I did get banned from it; and they kinda have a beef against me up there, with security.
@@NathanDavisVideos oh man, that’s rough. Sorry to hear that.
Sad to hear that you are struggling a bit. I really like your videos. You could always do video game videos or also review local businesses, kind of like your old videos. It would also be cool to see you and Patrick reunite. Wish you nothing but the best Nathan.
Yeah I'm hoping I could reunite with Patrick. I also did a couple days ago (instead I ended-up going with someone else). I'm going to ask him in a bit if he has any days off this next week.
This is fantastic! The Kaufmann's store in Downtown Pittsburgh was superb!
This is fantastic. I remember shopping at both Macy's and Kaufmann's when the stores were in Downtown Pittsburgh. I ate at the Tic Toc Restaurant a few times in my younger days.
I remember Kaufmann's too. Although I didn't visit the downtown store when it was STILL a Kaufmann's, I still liked Kaufmann's WAAAY BETTER than Macy's.
The Kaufmann's store I'm familiar with the most was the one at Ross Park Mall, and the one up in Erie at Millcreek Mall.
This hotel just closed without any warning
Yeah I just found about it a couple of days ago. I think one of the possible reasons behind it's closure was the convention center shuttering by it. Fortunately I just got word that the convention center will NOT shutter thankfully.
As for the hotel which benefited mainly off of the convention center, I'm not sure what will happen to it. Maybe new owners will take it over? I could see maybe Hilton buying the place; but I'm not sure either.

Otis is now modding these.
They did not replace everything. They just slapped-on new fixtures & re-did the cab, the controller & motor are still original. It still has that lobby bell, still has character, & runs the exact same. It was Schindler, Hadfield has never worked on these.
Great video

This elevator still exists in 2023, although the buildings never opened.
2:04 That's a code violation.
Yeah I think that would be an actually violation to elevator codes. At least the alarm still works (as far as I know); so maybe they found a loophole there?
There's a code somewhere that says a phone is not required if the alarm works, but if there is a phone it needs to work.
This would be nicer if it had the dinnerbell.
I believe it did have the dinner-bell originally. However I think it hasn't been working in YEARS.
I love how he just tries to explain why he’s recording 😂

Thanks for the behind the scenes of the mall look.
I also have another video of another freight elevator in this mall, and one that may or may not have been featured in a scene of the original Dawn of the Dead movie. That video will be coming soon.
Could you film the platform elevators at the North side train station?
In my recent video I also said PPG paints instead of aquarium
You should go do Sears I heard the doors are unlocked
The Kaufmann's design is identical to sister store Hecht's design in Virginia and Maryland which were also May Co. stores acquired by Macy's.
Nathan, you have a nice little piece of history here-century 3 mall and the Macy’s store intact. Have you seen the current condition of this abandoned mall? It’s heartbreaking.
Yeah I did... It is sad. And I could kick myself for not returning anytime sooner before it closed.
@@NathanDavisVideos just be grateful you were able to see and document it as well! I’ve never been there and it’s videos like yours that helps us look back at what it once was.
If this was restricted she did have a right to tell you not to go up there. If there was no sign she had no right to say that. Either way she was quite rude
I doubt it's abandoned, more like disused. It looks like it's still being maintained.
Looks more like it’s mothballed
