Squier Duo Sonic Bass (Duo-Bronco)
I modded a Squier Bronco bass to resemble a Duo-Sonic guitar. The result is what I’m calling the Duo-Bronco, and here’s a quick dirty demo. As always, audio and video are just what my iPhone could capture, and the room is rattling, so not a perfect representation of it, but it gets the idea across.

Quick little run through of my 4 basses, just trying to demonstrate the tonal characteristics of each across all four strings. No, I did not check my tuning before starting this, so I apologize for the basses being out of tune with each other. #grooveisintheheart #bass #bassguitar #guitarshootout #shootout #comparison #squier #fenderbass #classicvibe #vintagemodified #peavey #grote #precisionba...

Nice mod to do in my Bronco ... Thanks for the inspiration!! Sounds awesome!!
Great tone!
sounds good. i had wondered about these valves
Amazing! What kind of strings do you use for this short scale gem? Regular strings or short-scale strings? Thank you 🙌
How thick is the neck profile? Specially compared to a Hofner Ignition Club, which is 24,3 mm just below fret one. Thanks a lot!
Love to have one. But I am concerned about the thick of the neck , its profile (not the wide of the fretboard). From the simillar basses I know, it goes from thinner to thicker like this: Hofner Club Contemporary, Thomann beatbass (their violin shaped bass), Hofner Club Ignition (the thicker one, I have measured 24,3 mm just below fret 1). I like the neck profile as thin as possible. How thick is this grote bb2 bass, compared to those ones? Thanks a lot
Why can’t I remember this tune? Whats it called??
Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder :)
@ THANK YOU!!!
I wish they still sold this so I can pull the frets on it .don't wanna mess with my Hofner, but might have to do it.
Purchased a Bronco Bass a few days ago. Out of the box it was near perfect. Intonation on E & A only adjustment. Neck straight. Couldn't be more happy with it .. !!!
That sounds better than any squier ive heard
Stevie Wonder bass line! And you thought no one would recognize it. Good playing.Could you give me the weight(as close as possible) on that Bronco? I have back problems and it matters a lot.Good vid---I play 6-string too, Martin acoustic,Gibson Les Paul(sitting down). Thanks!
maybe if we could hear the bass and not the bass in your room.....this is pretty pointless…
My Evan Bass 60 is powered by a fantastic quad of 6P14P tubes. The overdrive clarity and tight bass are spot on. I own a bunch of quads and can’t imagine letting them go-they’ll likely outlive me! Just showcased this amp on my channel. Watch it and share your thoughts on the tones. Btw, I love your amp, great vid.
Is the pickup noisy? I want a smaller backup bass that I can use at certain shows. I’ve been thinking of getting the sonic bronco and upgrading the tuners, bridge, and pickups/electronics
Just ordered one and I can’t speak on the pickup yet. Seems to have a little hum as is normal with a single coil pickup. You should be able to correct that mostly by copper shielding the cavity and pick guard. Or upgrade to a humbucker.
@@renehammel6420 I bought one. I replaced the pickup, the bridge, the electronics, and the tuning pegs. I’d say the pickup was the most important upgrade. It comes with a single coil strat pickup. I put in a nice Lindy Fralin but any cheap 50s era p bass pickup will make it sound way better. I love it now.
bro what is your height ??? bronco bass size is fit on your body
It’s a bit of an optical illusion, the camera was at about waist height.
That thing sounds cool! Thanks! 🎻✌️🙂😎
Thanks! 🎻✌️🙂😎
I had the affinity one years ago and sold it because the lack of adjustment on the bridge. It’s great to see these new sonic series broncos have individual string saddles. Awesome duo sonic mod!
Thanks, it really should work. From the official manual: "This device is intended to be used for amplification and playback of signals from musical instruments with electromagnetic pickups". Just got a smaller one (5W) branded as Harley Benton.
I have the same bass
This should be a shoo-in for the Paranormal Series!
Broncos are a real blast to modify, and these new sonic ones are even better than the affinity series
Jesus loves you brotha 💪🏼 I’m thinking of getting a jazz master for a good beginner guitar, do you know anything about them?
🎶grooove is in the heart🎶 great playing man! Dig the mods.
This sounds remarkably good!
Nicely done!
Good stuff man!
That’s cool
Thanks!
The TB's sort of sound like upright basses on steroids!
The weight in Kg ?
What amp?
Fender rumble 500.
Is it a good bass? There's one in sale where I live. How does it compares to an Squier one?
It definitely was not a very high quality bass. Every Squier I’ve owned has been a better bass than this one was. These were kinda neat, but basically toys. I wouldn’t pay more than $50 for this bass.
Great review! I just ordered the Sonic series Precision bass through guitar center, it is a limited run surf green for $179.99. It has a jazz neck on a p body-I normally like a precision neck but I have never had a jazz neck on a p bass and this was nice deal. The bronco sounds phenomenal, excellent playing.
So wait. The CV was first, right? I couldn't really tell the difference. Which is good, because I liked the sound of the MIM in another video. So if I'm getting the same kind of sound, that's good enough for me!
Yep, the CV is the one with the maple fretboard.
Its very hard to decide what sound is better, because there are a lot of things you have to consider, like, the amp, who is playing the bass, the electronic used by the guy who is showing etc...the best thing you must to do is go to the music store and playing by yourself
That looks like a fun little rig to noodle around on in the living room. I love the short scale length. What does it measure?
It’s a 30” scale length
I'd buy it. Thanks for the review.
Not sure why I'm surprised (Squier basses always seem to be pretty solid quality), but that's a pretty great tone for $200 - cool it's a short scale as well
This is the 3rd bronco I’ve owned. I had 2 from the mid 2000s and neither of those ones sounded or played this good. I’m not sure what they changed, but it’s a GOOD change. The pickup in particular just sounds so much better than the previous ones. I have a strat sized bass (4 pole AlNiCo) pickup to put in it, but I’m not sure I will. I like the stock one fine.
@@zacharyroush1207I put a Lace Sensor pickup in mine, sounds more like a single coil should compared to the hot rail or hot stack type pickups, while also noticably quieter regarding hum than a standard single coil...used to have an older bronco that I installed two lipstick tube pickups in, they're fun basses to mod and these new ones are even better because the bridge and tuners have alot more options than the older ones
Hermosa colección, mis bajos favoritos!!
Gracias por mirar!
I have the six string guitar
Hello, how is the quality of this bass and how much did it cost you? thank you
I meant to type I love how they sound.
Good morning. I'm considering purchasing a Squire CV 50's P Bass. I love how they side as well as how the look. Do you own all 4 of those basses? Also have you had any issues with the necks getting out of alignment? Please advise. Thank you.
Yes, I own all 4 of these basses. I’ve never had any issues with the necks getting out of alignment or moving in the neck pocket. These are all excellently made instruments, especially the CVs. In my opinion the build quality of the Classic Vibe series is on par (or better) than the USA made Fenders I have played.
I'm surprised how the stock pickup on the second TB sounds very loud on the amp, my bass is a stock one and i even played it in a guitar amp (as i don't have a bass amp right now) and it sounded quite clear, didn't have that distorted, boomy sound as yours, but it sures sounds very much like the fretless one. I also agree with you on the necks, as i have medium-small hands, i like the neck a lot on mine, it feels very much like a "D" shaped one to me, also, some months ago i played a brand new Classic Vibe 50's P-Bass and i don't know if Squier are making the necks slimmer, as the one i tried was very much like the one on my TB, but with more of a "modern C" shape and it sounded to me very reminiscent of Rickenbackers.
After reading this, I went and checked the pickup height on my TBs. I lowered the fretted one’s and it mellowed out that boom significantly. I haven’t played the new Indonesian CV50s, but my CV70s p bass feels almost exactly as you described. This Chinese CV50s is considerably bulkier, but still very comfortable.
I think you know this, but I use the 70’s Pbass all the time.
It’s crazy how great those basses are! Been messing around with trying different strings on it. Haven’t found any that don’t sound good in that bass.
Nice guitar, man! What is the idea behind the angled pickup? There wasn't initially enough low end and you decided to angle it or you went with it from the get go?
Just copying the original Esquire design.
Greetings from Lebanon. Two weeks ago i found in e-shop pre-owned Squier PB VM TB. Now i am waiting for delivery. in Thomann e- shop i have bought pickup and bridge covers to make it in really 51' vibe climat. Actually - i look forward to take that Squier lady in my hands
I have a Squier Classic Vibe 70s P Bass Walnut Color in my Bass Guitar Collection 🎸
My dad has one of these collecting dust in a closet at his house, back from his 80's garage band days. I'm planning to have my mom retrieve it for me so I can do a restoration of it and surprise him. Any ideas where a replacement pickguard can be found? The one on his has largely crumbled away.
Nice - a well suited bass for fretless.
Did you ever figure out the model? I just got the same one but red. I can’t find anything at all about it.
No, I never did figure out anything about it. It’s a little mystery bass.
@@zacharyroush1207 I’m emailing Harmony now with pics. If I find out anything, I’ll let you know
@@zacharyroush1207 well, that didn’t help. Harmony said it looks maybe like the H805 that was made in Korea. It doesn’t to me at all. Totally different pickgaurd. Mine is identical to yours.
