Luton v West Brom preview: Will we get goal shy Baggies at the right time?
Luton Town welcome West Bromwich Albion to Kenilworth Road for some Friday night football this week as the Hatters look to bounce back from that horrible loss at Coventry last weekend.
Kev is joined by The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe to preview the match against the former league leaders, who head to Bedfordshire without a win in their last six matches.
The lads look at West Brom and what we can expect from them both in terms of key personnel and style before the attention turns to Luton.
The first questions to be answered are who will replace the suspended Alfie Doughty and Tom Holmes and do those bans mean that the Hatters will have to employ a back four?

The Luton Town Supporters' Trust was created, and initially named Trust in Luton, in 2003 to help force out unpopular former owner John Gurney.
Current club chief executive Gary Sweet was part of the group that effectively forced the club into administration and out of Mr Gurney's control, for a new consortium to take over, headed up by Bill Tomlins.
Another change of ownership again brought problems and administration followed again in 2007, until the club was eventually bought out by the fan-led 2020 consortium, headed up by Sweet, which has now helped steer the history-making Hatters from the non-league to the Premier League.
The Supporters' Trust is a democratic, non-profit organisation run by fans for fans. The purpose of a Trust is to help fans to join together and strengthen their influence over the way Luton Town Football Club is run, and to improve the links between their club and the community it serves.
In a way, we’re like a union, believing that many voices are stronger than one and that the best way to influence the club is to represent many fans, not just ourselves.

S7 E96: Season review as heroes leave, Barkley still set for Aston Villa switch and will Osho stay?
Think this match will be an ill Omen of us sinking even deeper in the relegation mire …sorry but going for a scary 2-0 defeat with nothing much to Smile about.
We've had time to rest since Saturday lunchtime and we're at home under the lights. We are capable of putting in a performance as we did against Watford, or the one we did against Sheffield United and Coventry City. West Brom sound like they're a team struggling with confidence at the moment, maybe they have injuries to contend with as well. If we can just finish the season above Stoke (15th) I'll be happy. It should be noted that for 17 months Coventry fans had been waiting for Dabo's kick to roll down from the Wembley roof and last week they finally got the chance to breath out. They were obviously up for that match, possibly more than any other match in the intervening months. That doesn't excuse our surrender, but it will be interesting to see how Coventry equip themselves going forward. They've also been pretty poor so far this season.
The hilarious charismatic duo are at it again. See how long you can stand this episode 🙀 ( I managed 7️⃣ minutes ).
No one is forcing you to watch it are they?! 😂😂
I do it to save other unfortunates having to watch this dross‼️
Were is taylor 2 players got any fight morris and kaminski
SHADES OF 1960 all over again Please players don't let it happen again
3 yellows in 20 min set the tone of the game and set the clear additional 🦓 speed bumps we needed to overcome. Not excuse for loosing but set the tone of the match. COYH! LFG
Cov fan here, I can't believe we were losing @ HT. In the end, we should have won way before injury time. Good luck for the season.
Good 'discussion' here ! I can remember a few seasons back where Coventry (UNDER Mark Robbins) came to KR and gave a masterclass in s**thousery; that horrible bloke Doyle, and all that !! I think the 'best' Managers in the world have become so, because, they are tactically 'aware' !! Yes, I understand that RE wants to play 'attractive' football, but, surely there has to be a time when 'common sense' has to 'prevail' !! You're 2-0 up in a game, away from home against a 'good' team; block the game up, time waste, 'feign' injury to stop 'momentum' (other teams do it to us, and it's good enough for Sunderland) !! I hate to criticise Rob, but I think we have a Manager who is 'naive' tactically, and at THIS level is, again, tactically 'short', and out of his 'depth' !! How many games have we lost since the middle of last season that we may not have done had we been that little bit more 'streetwise' in our approach; "we've got it, and we're gonna hold on to it, by 'fair' means or 'foul', we've done the 'sexy', bit, now let's go and do the 'ugly' bit" !! It MIGHT 'stink the place out', but, better teams/sides than us do it !! Over the years, why have so many Italian teams won what they have, probably because they have been so good at 'managing games out' !! Even, 'heavy metal' football Jurgen Klopp has said that you won't win a football match without 'tactics' !!
Why are we the only team that don’t have tactical fake injuries. Too honest.
Some of the players such as Nakamber who have had serious injuries shouldn’t be playing international games.
Listen to yourselves. You are saying what should happen and I agree with it but why is RE not doing that. He is not learning quickly enough. He will create a toxic atmosphere if he keeps on this track. You say no Taylor but we could have hooked ball behind them to chase. He would have at least kept them going wrong direction. Don't see him as goal hero but may tie down wide and central defender on one side
Should have given Osho a new contract. I think Power Court is a huge distraction for the board. Transfer dealings have been poor, Robs in game decisions have been poor. At this rate we will have a 25000 seater stadium in League 1 or 2. This squad should not be in the bottom three, and the manager has to take the responsibilty, change it, or be replaced.
I think they were trying to get him to sign but it was his decision to go
Jim's despondent "do we have to?" (Discuss conceded goals) was hilarious. I was was wondering if that's why Clark was playing up as a false #10 (or something) a few games back-- he can shoot, but limits the impact of his defensive errors. Interesting insights up until about the 53: mark. Perhaps you can't wholly blame RE, but guess what, prolly can't blame Kaminski either. The amount of time and energy put into that rant suggests you might.
to many soft players that aren't worried to lose and aren't good enough in general sadly
Hope both of you are OK 👍🏽
We steam rolled Luton from the first minute we should have won the game 5 or 6 2 can't see why all these Luton blogs saying they deserved something out of the game I stated at the start of the season Luton would struggle this season, their old Wimbledon style of hoof and hope physical game won't cut it in the championship this year Morris is well past the sell by date and Luton have very little to change or win a game
some one should step in, and give rob some help.
Only get so far playing route one football
Well done Kevin and James I feel for you having to do this after a defeat like this😢. Agree with nearly all you guys said. My thoughts: - Home or Away can't play both Clark and Chong they are liabilities when we are out of possession - Promotion season we played Def Mid Marv in front of a rock solid 3 of Burkey, Locks and Amari and another working Midfielder Pelly with one attacking Mid.... we aren't playing a clear Def Mid and we don't have a rock solid back 3 not rocket science that we concede a lot more goals and mainly through our mistakes!!! - If Baptiste isn't available my 3 Mids would be DM Marv (when fit enough) working Mid Krauß or Pelly advanced Mid Krauß or Clark/Chong. If Baptiste is fit he does the working Mid role - Like you guys Rob needs to stop taking it all on him and when players keep making mistakes not name them but make it clear they need to stop or someone else will get a chance - Feels like their has been an odd feel all season saw somewhere Rob and Pelly may have had a bust up or similar Rob certainly hasn't been saying we love him to bits if he has said it at all this season like he has done in previous, he has put Pelly on the Alan Campbell pile! - Feels like we have discarded the run through the wall/heart/character players replacing with good footballers too much... Look at who have gone in the last few seasons...Sonny, Locks, Matty P, Wee Al, Bez, Hylts, Collo, Harry C, Cam J and probably others I have missed, I know some left by their choice but that is a lot of "Lutonness" that hasn't been replaced enough for me - Agree with subs comments and knew it would be 60mins for subs hoping somehow we would get there miraculously still at 2-0 and we didn't no surprise to anybody last 18 months we seem to concede between 45 and 55 but make subs on 60!!! That is on Rob like you guys had to make a sub at HT and another at least on about 50. First 2 subs for me had to be Marv and Pelly for Clark and Chong
‘Maybe, worryingly, this was the real Hatters,’ James wrote at the end of his Lutonian article. Maybe this was the real Edwards whose footballing judgement, and not for the first time this season, is increasingly random and I’m being polite. If so, difficult decisions can’t be avoided much longer. Does a professional manager have to learn from the bleedin’ obvious? Particularly when the obvious has happened time and again. Btw guys, thanks for giving up your Sunday evenings on the podcast.
That could have been an easy 5 or 6 against Town.
Edwards judgement of players is really suspect. Clearly has no intention of playing Taylor. Clark kept in despite loads of poor performances. Surely Berry and Campbell are better than some of the current midfielders? Just can't see what Edwards is seeing
The way he treated Townsend made no sense to me either. While he was on a temp contract he was considered a first teamer, as soon as he signs permanently barely played again except as late sub. Didn't play badly, thought he was tidy and gave us top level experience which only Barkley had otherwise. Even during our injury crisis he barely played, at one point he played with U21 to maintain fitness, was ridiculous.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
About the free kick booking,,, you can see the ref tell him to wait for the whistle, he didn't so he got booked, what's the problem?
Played pelly against watford played well didnt bring him on against sunderland or coventry strange.
First half we didnt play too bad could scored four goals.cov played well derserved to win.Think Rob half time team talks are poor .Ref gave us pen then gave coventry everything.
We ARE bang in trouble, though
The referee told Alfie twice clearly to wait for the whistle, he still took it, watch it back.
Dont get booked for that just warning is normal.carlton morris yelow was clear luton corner.Ref was poor.
I commented on your post Sunderland podcast... "Bad news is that it might be mainly about the press working so well and we'll be knackered by Christmas if we play with that intensity for 90 minutes each game." I said that assuming we'd freshen up for Saturday! As for Clicker, he can't play as one in a central two. One other thing. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the coaching staff. It's easy (and lazy) to just blame RE but it's a team of people. Rob makes the final decision so he's responsible and he takes that but what is going overall because he's going on the information his team is giving him?
I completely agree about using all substitutes and using them wisely, in a game that Luton knew was going to be tough, game management was crucial, and this is where I think Rob Edwards seems to be clueless. I don't want RE to go but if he doesn't learn from this defeat we will be bang in trouble. Personally I would like to see more of Nakamba and /or 🎉 Walsh starting instead of the likes of Clarke, who for me just isn't cutting it for us this season. Why does Edwards persist with him I don't know. I hope the team can recover reasonably well in time for Friday night.
I watched parts of the Luton/Sunderland game midweek before you played us, I knew then that this was going to be a "physical" battle, Your team seam like a "brick Poop house" and a little dirty with it but very solid (the opposite of glass like Cov). At 0-2 I never thought we were going to loose that game and the last time i thought that was against Manu U in April. Like Luton does, Cov needs to be consistent, like you beat Watford the week before we cant afford to loose this weekend after our display. Good luck Luton, well done for taking the prem cash cow for what it is worth and rebuilding the foundations (the most important part of a club along with the fans) with that cash !
I would rather be a Sunderland supporter saying we are only 12 games in
This has ALL the makings of a Graeme Jones season. The problem is, as highlighted, Rob has all the tools at his finger tips and right now, he track record reflects the GJ season. Now Rob is stuck as he has to a) find a new set piece taker b) change shape. He has allowed players on the bench to sit there and not get enough minutes, so he can't complain. Also, I have to disagree about the 'too many games' - all the teams are in the same boat, they just manage it better. Coventry made 3 changes and we roll out the same shambles, they offered a variety of corners and set pieces. The ref must have had a skybet on booking Alfie before Friday's game, otherwise the booking makes no sense and there's not a law I know. He was a joke but not the reason why Luton imploded. I can't even be bothered now to listen to the excuses from Rob any longer. I cannot believe Rob is this daft. Repeating the same mistakes week in week out and not making changes, because he puts his hands together and prays the side can hang out. At half time you're both right - EVERYONE apart from Rob and the coaching staff could see how this would going to end. I just hope that this time, the board do not leave it until it's too late to let Rob go. There's ZERO improvements and I don't see anything that gives me confidence we can improve between now and Xmas and the games are going to get harder.
Andersen is a waste of a squad place. Either he gets fit and plays or we release him and get someone else in who can play. The other defenders are carrying Andersen and it is costing us points
James looks like hes come to the same conclusion that a lot of fans did weeks ago. Clear out of players or manager goes. There is NO backbone to the team. NONE
You need to keep Edwards. And steady the ship. A bit like us and our manager. Good support numbers from Town on Saturday.
Kev, we will be lucky to not be involved in a relegation scrap let alone top 6. What have you seen to suggest this group and Edwards is capable of finishing in the top six sides in this league? Any time we’ve played someone half decent we’ve lost. Edwards will be sacked this weekend if we lose to WBA
I was suprised how awful you guys were from kick off. You took your chances but even as a cov fan, i thought we'd come back and win it. Edwards killed you off with his subs and id say stick by him but that's from an outsiders perspective. Hope you stay up and recooperate, we like you guys.

You’re being naive Kevin if you think we are not bang in trouble, with the present setup.
Only 12 games in, come on, once a rot sets in it can be damaging - long hard winter ahead, playoffs is now a fantasy. We were premier league a few months ago & now we are battling championship relegation. "How long" to you give Edwards, seriously; you keep backing Edwards, when all you do in podcast videos is criticise the formation, team selection and now substitute usage. Deep down, you know he is a crap manager, read between the lines, be honest, be brave.
Rob and his team keep making the same mistakes... I dont want Rob gone, but at what point does somebody step in and get a grip of this. You'd think Mick and the board are going to start asking some tough questions of Rob. Its all too easy to beat us. James looks totally fed up!
I’m sorry, but Edwards is stealing a living at the moment, and for a while. I would love to say it’s going to turn round but at this point I just can’t see it.
Edwards needs help, he’s calling out for it. His side kicks need to step up if we get someone in who can.
Last week it was why we will make the top 6, this week its the worse referee in the world!! Luton are in a relegation position and heading for league 1.
Pelly has come on for over 20minites for Morwell, Oxford and Watford, 3 of the games we saw out to get some type of result. He makes mistakes but he runs the clock down, he runs the ball away from the danger area and isn’t scared of taking a yellow where needed. We haven’t got a better midfielder to see out a result (and he proved it numerous times for 1/0 in championship 2 years ago), history doesn’t lie
Pelly is a really good midfielder bags of experience
Edwards has shown he’s got his favourites and they have to be injured which they will be if he keeps playing them, before he uses sone of the squad players.
It's true, both Pelly and Walsh must be fresh as daisies could have played 90 no problem. Brown as well would have made more sense to start with him, although I know Morris and Adebayo scored for us, but he's risking them getting injured by overplaying them, they both started all 3 games
Edwards needs to be sacked. Not only is his win rate awful but we are playing terrible football, we’ve gone so far backwards it’s a joke. The board have also responsible as they have spent hardly any of the £180 million of the players. We already the money for the ground so can’t use that excuse. It’s all pathetic , no excuses about the schedule it’s the same for every team.
Not sure anyone can be behind Edwards at this stage. No manager has had his resources / the ongoing injury issues. Tactically poor. Time for a change and now.
Is ok backing rob Edwards and yeah he’s sound bloke but we are football team with so called better squad than 2022 and anybody watching pre season could see we where disorganised so this is been going on for about 15 games when do start thinking we need someone new to sort out the mess
Batman & Robin continue to give there delusional ramblings, “it’s the refs fault “. Talk about stabbing a manager in the back….
Stabbing how? Calling out the crap game management?
You clearly paid zero attention.
@@welcome2mytruth I watched the match, not sure what else is needed to call it. Did you?
You're obsessed with our club. Maybe you should create your own W8tf8rd vlog.
Who are you? The joker? Thought Kev's comments were spot on.
