- The Town made it seven successive away defeats on Saturday when they went down 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Kev is joined by The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe to look back at another afternoon of the same old same old on the Hatters’ travels.
The boys reflect on the 90 minutes and discuss the main incidents from the game as well as the reaction during and after the game.
The boys then look towards the future both on the pitch and off it ahead of what could be a massive week for the club.

The Luton Town Supporters' Trust was created, and initially named Trust in Luton, in 2003 to help force out unpopular former owner John Gurney.
Current club chief executive Gary Sweet was part of the group that effectively forced the club into administration and out of Mr Gurney's control, for a new consortium to take over, headed up by Bill Tomlins.
Another change of ownership again brought problems and administration followed again in 2007, until the club was eventually bought out by the fan-led 2020 consortium, headed up by Sweet, which has now helped steer the history-making Hatters from the non-league to the Premier League.
The Supporters' Trust is a democratic, non-profit organisation run by fans for fans. The purpose of a Trust is to help fans to join together and strengthen their influence over the way Luton Town Football Club is run, and to improve the links between their club and the community it serves.
In a way, we’re like a union, believing that many voices are stronger than one and that the best way to influence the club is to represent many fans, not just ourselves.
Back to business as usual then, as all the optimism from Tuesday evening quickly evaporated. Strangely we used no subs in the 2nd of 3 games in a week, particularly with the final game of such a sequence traditionally seeing us run out of steam and get soundly beaten.
I think we all knew that an in-form Blackburn away would be a far more difficult proposition than Stoke at home, however we effectively committed footballing suicide before a ball was even kicked. The writing was on the wall when we named the same starting 11 from Tuesday, with the same formation and players out of position again. To compound matters however Hashi had now been moved to the left of the back 3 where he always struggles. This was no less than professional negligence from not only Rob Edwards but Kyle and the Trollope. We are too open and predictable and the 2nd Blackburn goal was the all too familiar ball over the top of the exposed wing back and there we are 0-2 at half time and game over.
To be honest Myself, Kevin and James could do better, even without the entourage of so-called Analysts. Switch the formation to 4-4-2 away from home with Johnson as a natural left back. Two banks of four with Hashi at Right Back and Moses at right wing where he won a Premier League winners medal ! Incidentally all 3 of those have represented their country at various levels, but in their natural positions !
My patience has run out with Edwards now and I am even starting to think he is purposely setting us up to lose, so that he gets himself fired ! Yes its that bad ! Lots of decent replacements available right now in Cooper, Robins or O’Neill.
January transfer-window wise we need to recruit in weaker areas, such as left-Back and a Premiership loan of Harry Toffolo would be a good place to start. I Just hope a new manager is in place to make these calls.
It's Christmas, so it feels like Groundhog day - the footballing version. I'm going to take the view from our players. The ones who are being forced to play out of position time and time again, to satisfy a Manager who wants to play a system that the players clearly aren't comfortable with but have to accept it, or probably not play, rather than play to the strengths of the team he has. We're yet to see him do that at all this season.
Chong, as bad as he is, isn't a Left wing back and he was out of position so many times, coming across to the middle and then the right side of the pitch so many times, leaving us exposed on that left side. Speaking of which, the second goal exposed just how bad Rob's tactics (I use that word loosely) - Hashi gets pulled out of position due to the crazy system man marking, the ball goes into that space as the remaining 2 centre backs are overloaded by their midfield and attack which leads to another goal. The only key take away was that Blackburn took their foot of the gas to keep it 2-0.
Teams around us have sacked their Managers, Rob and the coaching twits continue to blurt out the same excuses when it's blindingly obvious that the 3 centre back system doesn't work, the man marking doesn't work and the high press has delivered dozens of injuries. If fans can see it, why can't Rob and the coaching twits? I find his stubbornness shocking and 2020 need to stop twiddling their fingers and put fans and the players out of their misery by firing Edwards as he won't change.
Teams below us have the odd game in hand and win those, means we will be just 1 or 2 points above relegation which is a worry. On the subject of the PL money - 100% agree with everything said and I can't thank 2020 enough for saving the club. As for transfers, I totally get how difficult it is but again, I agree, some fans might believe it's like playing Football Manager. However, we didn't have an issue bringing players in before and now a few have turned their noses up at the club - so what changed? Is it Rob and his crazy system not selling that dream?
Talking about the stadium, I am a supporter who lived through the ID card period, Pete and the club shop in the portacabin, the Kholerdome and endless chatter about a new stadium - but finally, some good news and a massive victory for the club but I will be so sad to kiss goodbye to the old girl but oh boy, I have so many great memories but the club need this to drive it forward for the future.
Anyone seen Garry Sweet recently? When the team were on the rise, he was all over the media. Now you've more chance of seeing a Yeti. Yes, Power Court is important of course, but what league will we be in by then? If there is any sort of strategy for the playing side of the club for Gods sake communicate it. Is he backing Rob to change the results, with some January investment, or is he making a managerial change? Most fans I know have lost patience with Edwards inabilty to offer any alternative to his 3 at the back nonsense. Come on Garry, put Power Court to one side for a week, and give us some insight as to your plan to keep us in the Championship.
Straight to the point !
Thanks for that, it is the only podcast I bother with. Kevin's comment regarding the Manager's possible problem with Pelly is a question that needs asking. The fans deserve an answer. It would seem that the tea lady would get on the pitch before Pelly. Number 1 question at the next press conference please and don't allow a change of subject or pointless waffle.
The last time we were in the championship players hated playing against clarke and Campbell now we got no one like that
I think that lack of organisation is the key - when we miss Lockyer or Andersen we start to make those mistakes at the back. It was pretty evident last year and confirmed this year. We need one of those to get everyone else in line - Mengi and McGuinness haven't been doing it (fair enough they're young players) and Burke's been on the right when fit.
spot on Kev
An inevitable result, thought that even after Stoke win where it was a better performance but hardly 1970 Brazil. Thought for some time the board does not want to pay off RE the estimated £7 million as they feel we will finish 4th bottom at worst. Sad thing for RE he has lost most of the goodwill from his first 1.5 seasons.
Absolutely agree securing a ground for the future outweighs what division we will be in over the next few years. Saying that with wise management of finances and personnel LTFC in the short term can secure Championship football now and have Power court in a few years time . COYH.
Personnel including manager, medics, coaches and of course players. Some will have to go and others brought in. It won't be easy to do this well over the coming weeks though and may take longer 😕
league 1 is one of the hardest leagues to get out of. really super tough division, you dont want to go back there.
So here we are again watching you lads, Deggy and Lewis etc and the reoccurring theme is also the elephant in the room. The Manager! This team on paper looks good? Obviously that’s a perceptive rather than factual observation. The team is awful and the results clearly show that to be the case. Injury plagued and reaching critical levels yet the question of why we purchased or contracted so many injury prone players remains. Walsh made a terrible decision yet again and Edwards says they need to work with him! No he’s a liability and needs to be offloaded. 3 at the back and they weren’t even in their respective positions yet Matts sits on the bench? Wolves, Southampton and most surprisingly Oxford have sacked their managers! It’s time and I’ll make it perfectly clear that I take no pleasure saying so but it’s now or never. Funny thing about that game was our passing accuracy was 83% one of the if not the best for the season. Just to be clear I’m not having a go at you lads or any other commentators and these thoughts are my own offered freely as part of the conversation. COYHATTERS ❤😊
The table doesn't lie. We have a poor selection of players to choose from. As a squad, they are not good enough. We look like the team that has just got promoted from league one with the majority of the squad not good enough at this level. All the players we brought in in the summer came in on a free apart from McGuinness and Fanne and that shows. We brought in players that other clubs simply wanted to unload. Most these lads would have struggled to get on our bench two or three years ago.
See, I don't think we have a bad set of players. Moses, Krauss, Clicker could boss midfield - the problem is, none of them have been given the chance because we play 3 centre backs and Edwards is more than happy to play them all out of position, which is the daftest thing I have EVER seen in Luton Town FC history. I cannot for the life of me understand why he refuses to change the system and formation to get the best from the players he has, rather than be the ONLY manager in the entire league to play with 3 centre backs.
The truth is we have an awful set of players which is down to awful recruitment. On top of that we have a totally inept manager. 2020 have let us down badly since promotion to the premier league with lack of investment in the team.
I'm over, so will be at the Derby match. The lastatch that I was over for, was the Derby match (as in the match against WFC), so let's hope we put on a display of Pride, Passion & Belief, like we did against WFC.
As I for people calling for PRM... have they forgotten his poor passing ability (the majority of the time).
I still stand by my thought, that Morris & Taylor should start & play the majority of the match.
Prediction for Friday = 2 - 0. 🥃⚽🥃
Can we all agree that Moses and Chong are not wingbacks, Hashi is not a centre half and cannot cover left side, and "tricky wingers" especially those on loan from PL clubs are our Achilles heel?
We will not get in any loan players unless we have an agreement with the loanee club to purchase them at the end of the loan spell. That is why we have no Premier Leaguer loans. We have Krauss on that kind of deal. I heard that direct from a Directors mouth.
Played 21 , Won 6 and lost 11 !!!.
Relegation is a real threat but hey, if we all stick our heads in the sand, we can, like the board and manager, all pretend that " we're too good to go down "!!
We will get relegated if Rob stays, that's certain
The one thing that can sum us up over and over again the past 11 and half months.....
tactical ineptitude from a manager who has proven he can not out manage any opposition manager of championship level.
Its got to a point where alot of fans are now no longer excited to go to football matches and that's the saddest part.
People are getting VERY frustrated by a manager who, personally, I think has lost the 'plot', and keeps wanting to 'persevere' with something where it has been shown time and time again that it does NOT work !! I just CANNOT see why ANY manager would want to play a natural 'right' footed player LEFT of the back three, and visa versa !! A person who keeps making bad calls/choices time and time again in the hope it will eventually work, when on countless times previously it has NOT is just a FOOL !!
Another good listen. Just again too long tk listen in one go
Has it been explained why we didn't get 2 PL season loans as we did last season ? Other Champ teams have done this successfully. If we have to pay a fee so be it. May have been wiser than overspending on McGuiness as we did.
Robs refusal to change tactics and/or formation is just annoying now, to be honest! The rot has well and truly set in, for the love of God, we need a massive reset.
Decided to look back at my TH-cam comments for the first time and found comments from September 2023 (that's 2023!) saying we'll need to go to a back 4 with 3 in CM including a 10.
How we've not learnt is incredible but it seems that managers (and others) are now taught to have a 'philosphy' and stick to it come hell or high water. See Pep... When it's also, I assume, RE's coaches too, you can't help but think they're willing to die on that hill.
So the board need to communicate what they want. Are they happy for Rob to stick to this system or not? Because if they are, then maybe that will take some heat off Rob and the squad as whatever system we play, it still needs the players to get their confidence back. In the end 2020 are responsible.
On CM, I thought that was poor. Have it out away from public eyes. A captain has to lead and that's not the way to do it.
Can someone please summarise for me in a few words what it took these two guys 90 minutes to say. Take off the 37 seconds for time added on for the intro if that helps !! It is a tad same old same old I'm afraid, but skip to 1:30:00 and the only positive is a decision on Power Court this evening.
If Edwards plays that shockingly daft defensive formation again (which has NEVER worked) he needs to go. He never seems to learn from mistakes. I’ve been an Edwards supporter up til recently, and I’ve been to almost all these pathetic away performances, but having driven all the way to Blackburn to see us basically gift them the two goals was the final straw
He’s had to go since plymouth, he’s been doing it for a year straight
Edwards out, I’ve said it again for you Kevin.
Can James please ask Rob, why he does not pick the life and spirit of Luton Town. Pelly Ruddock Mpanza. We badly need his spirit in the side.
graham jones is wondering why he got sacked.
Can't agree with Morris's reaction to Walsh being sent off. That isn't leadership it's intimidation and bullying and if the Blackburn Captain hadn't pulled him away might have led to a red card for him as well. Speedy return please Locks.
We’ve got super Robbie Edwards, he knows exactly what we need??? Really??? A message to all Luton fans who are plugged into the Matrix and who thinks Rob Edwards should stay and get us of this mess... Come on guys let me be the first to tell you that NEVER happens and hasn’t happened EVER in football, otherwise we will be the first team to do so, once it’s gone, it never comes back, as with most things in life!
Rob Edwards’s last game in charge should have been against Sheffiel United away... He is a tactictess manager who hasn’t got a clue what to do with this team. He is inept in regards managing a football team, and was fortunate to probably get the job in the first place, and for sure he was over the moon when he got the (unfortunate for all Luton fans) four year contract, and now Scrooge Sweet won’t give us all a present and sack him! Sweet by the way is just putting off the inevitable, because sooner or later he has to come to his senses and realise we need a change which for all who are not plugged into the Matrix realise that was months ago!!!
To support Edwards is just ridiculous, the only place he is taking us is back to league 1 with him in charge, a lot of you celebrated the last win as if we just had 5 wins on the bounce. Reality Check the team is in a crisis, Edwards can’t do anything about it, and the coaches must be supporters of the other team up the M1 by overtraining the players so they constantly keep picking up injuries!
By all means keep supporting nice guy Edwards and revel in his nice qualities, and keep yourself firmly back in the past by look fondly back at all the nice memories, whilst at the same time overlooking our beloved team that keeps getting dragged further down the table. By the way, by supporting Edwards through thick and thin, you are also inadvertently welcoming in league 1 football in for next season. To all the fans that clap to show support is simply actually a paradoxical action, and in itself is actually a negative statement as yet again you are prasing yet another poor performance without any points to show for it with all the players and manager hiding behind those claps...The elephant in the room is being ignored once again, but not by the comments.. The fans have spoken..!!
Edwards out - No Doubt !
Let’s hope Wolves take Edwards and give the board the opportunity to continue to sit on their hands. I’ll pay for the Uber. And the board will make money on the deal so they’ll be happy. In answer to your question Edwards has shown he’ll never learn and doesn’t want to. I rarely use this word but I’m convinced the guy’s a fool. That can be the only explanation.
lol no chance wolves take rob, the wolves fans would explode.
@ miracles sometimes happen at thus time of year
Remember that backstaff of rob Edwards they looked so good back in the day have they left the club if not why not ,as for the team well there doomed
Still think edwards will be gone in the new year
So when they said power court was fully funded before we where promoted to the prem, they where lying then?
No, they weren't lying. They got the money from the sale of the Newlands Park land and there is housing, retail, commercial space within the plan to help pay for it too. Getting to the Premier League just meant they could be more ambitious with the plans, redesign and go straight for a 25,000 capacity instead of the adding more capacity as they went, which was the original plan.
Walsh and Baptiste - 2 of the weirdest, poorest signings of the last decade. Injuries helped cost us last season so we sign 2 more injury prone players
there proven good players, but managed very poorly, walsh was coventrys player of the year, they rated him highly, and never got a red, our coaching staff need to go.
Walsh is a total liability
But along with Baptiste he's the only creative midfielder we have.
Both free for a very good reason sadly.
Not that long ago Walsh was player of the year at Coventry. Makes no sense.
Get Edwards OUT
Why are you so convinced that Power Court guarantees financial stability for years to come?
There are plenty of clubs for whom a new ground has become a millstone.
Don't get me wrong I absolutely support it, but am not sure it's a saviour of our financials forever.
Because it's not just a stadium, and they will own everything. That includes shops, bars, restaurants and commercial space that will be used all year round, not just on match days. They will own the music venue and, probably most importantly, will own the homes that will be built there too. They may sell some of those things, or they may not, but if they do, you'd imagine they will bank the profit. And they've more than doubled the capacity of the stadium. Of course, there's no guarantees to fill it, but we're maxed out at Kenilworth Road most of the time at the moment and there's a multi-year long wait list for season tickets. Nothing is guaranteed, but they've done a tremendous job of future-proofing the whole site.
We are never going to get two points per home game from rest of season! So based on that we are in big trouble if not changing this mess.
I refuse to go down the line we have a high amount of players that don’t care enough. This is totally down to tactics and setup.
Imagine being plucky Luton and not the mighty magical Forest 🤣
Imagine being a troll !
Still upset that we made you all cry a couple of Easters ago? Rent free in your head 😂
Have you now jumped onto the Notts Forest bandwagon because they've won a few games. Give it six months and you'll be back to supporting Wolves.
We had roughly the same stats as Blackburn. It's the stupid mistakes that we made. We need a leader on the pitch. The only away game we have won this season was when Morris was not the Captain. I was disgusted by his bullying of Walsh when he made his mistake. Lockyer would have put his arm around Walsh and said "hard luck son, these things happen but get off quickly please". What Morris did was the reason why he should never be the Captain in my opinion. The only players that passed the ball properly were Clark and Krauss. I predicted that it would be the same team. Pelly is not an answer to anything. Taylor is on his way out due to his earlier fight with Doughty. With Troloppe and Kyle giving their flawed opinion RE wont play the correct team. Tell RE to sack Kyle and Trollope and bring in a Big Mick or Paul Hart type of person we need the experience to support RE. Make MCGuiness or Knowles or Bell or Burke the Captain. Only a world class striker like Jamie Vardy can also be a Captain. Morris 100% can't.
Rob needs to go
hard luck son, you did not break his leg in two.
Knowles? Is he going to be a January signing?
