OXFORD v LUTON: Matt Bloomfield’s first road test - Can he end Hatters' AWAY DAY HOODOO?

- Luton Town play their first away match under Matt Bloomfield on Tuesday evening when they make the relatively short trip to the Kassam Stadium to take on Oxford United.
Kev is joined once again by The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe to look ahead to the night we hope will see an end to the dismal away run.
The lads look at the different Oxford we might see from the game against them at Kenilworth Road given that they have changed manager in the meantime and pick out a couple of obvious threats.
The attention then turns to the Town and a potential change of approach from previous away games both in formation and style and also what tweaks could be made within the setup and possible team changes.

The Luton Town Supporters' Trust was created, and initially named Trust in Luton, in 2003 to help force out unpopular former owner John Gurney.
Current club chief executive Gary Sweet was part of the group that effectively forced the club into administration and out of Mr Gurney's control, for a new consortium to take over, headed up by Bill Tomlins.
Another change of ownership again brought problems and administration followed again in 2007, until the club was eventually bought out by the fan-led 2020 consortium, headed up by Sweet, which has now helped steer the history-making Hatters from the non-league to the Premier League.
The Supporters' Trust is a democratic, non-profit organisation run by fans for fans. The purpose of a Trust is to help fans to join together and strengthen their influence over the way Luton Town Football Club is run, and to improve the links between their club and the community it serves.

Fixing our away from is going to be Bloomfield's biggest challenge and the only way we can survive this season. Can't rely on home form alone, we HAVE to start picking up points away. At the moment we're really struggling to score and I'm not convinced we're yet capable of keeping a clean sheet away from home, Preston had no intention of attacking us so can't draw too many conclusions from Sat. I'm mainly looking for a further improvement in performance today, rather than a result, to show we're heading in the right direction. Would love a result, but am thinking a 1-0 loss to Oxford is more likely, with a better performance from the players again.
Luton's form points to an emphatic win for the hatters.The new manager bounce these baffons reported on last week will continue.
Gd prematch chat lads. Worth noting that one of Oxford's best technical attacking players, Goodrham, is out due to suspension. He scored a brilliant goal at The Kenny and is a constant pest running at defenders so hopefully a big plus for us although we obv have key men out too.
Oxford also just signed Helik from Huddersfield and he played straight away against Rovers on Sat and was v gd. Their back line is huge and very physical so going to need some strength and guile to prevail.
Frustrating, as think if we'd parted ways with RE after the Boro hammering (which shd have happened) then Rowett could have been our boss and sorted out our defence a lot earlier and we really could be kicking on now.
Feel MB is a positive appointment tho, just hope not too late and his inexperience at this level doesn't hamper him.
Huge pressure for MB to hit the ground running and get results immediately with the shit we're now in and to do that as well as new formation and tactics is a huge ask.
Hopefully he's up to the task and the players give everything and learn quick!

Oxford have the manager I was hoping would be on the shortlist for Luton if Edwards had left earlier and Rowett is delivering and Oxford are massively in form. My head says we’ll get beaten, in spite of the glimmers we saw on Saturday, but of course my heart hopes for a win … I’ll go between the two and a 1-1 outcome.
Holmes yellow card was probably deserved - he got the ball but his studs were up and went strauiht through the player afterwards. As to what he should do, go with studs down - of one of our players got a broken ankle because someone got the ball but went through them, we'd all be screaming for a red. Although, I really like Holmes

Definitely feeling more positive going forward, however, it's early days under Matt, and I feel our defence will be found wanting again. Current performance suggests 2-0 Oxford.

Oxford 2 -1 Luton - I just don't see us ending the away misery yet. We're simply not good enough at the moment.
Oxford 0-1 Luton. Being brave! I would be happy with a 0-0 but I feel Matt has experience vs Oxford and I expect the defence to be even tighter. Changes, Walsh in for Krauss, Nelson in for Brown and Eli in for Morris. The subs made no impact on Saturday so that will play on Matt’s mind but Brown was also uninspiring.

Sorry lads, love the optimism and I hope the players can find similar….but one ok performance isn’t enough to convince me that we can overcome an Oxford side who are decent at home and have picked up 14 points from 18 in their last 6 games. Hope I’m wrong. Oxford 1-0 Luton and start the revolution against Millwall on Saturday.

No way would I play Walsh from the start, don't think it's worth the risk. Bring him on for last 5mins so even if he does get sent off the team won't have to play with 10 for long!

I would take a point but, as always, I am going for 3-1 to Luton.
Solyd proper front foot (not gung ho) football till the end of the season . And all will good maybe not what we desired at the beginning of the season but that's ebb and flow of things.
Hoping for a draw is not ambitious enough. If we don't get wins we are going down.

Luton win 2 nil . Once we get a bit more better service to Morris/Eli they will come good .. They aren't bad players overnight. I would like to see Zac number 10 . Pelly on sub at around 60min.
