Hi - yes, I highly recommend this guitar. It is an older model, which we bought used for approx AU$150. Per my comments below, I highly recommend buying a quality used guitar over a cheap starter instrument in the same price range. Most of the base level beginner instruments are horrible. …. And if playing isn’t for you, then you should be able to recoup the cost of the better instrument on the used market.

I'm not familiar with the Prado air boxes, but Safari has never disappointed me. If you choose TJM, just make sure you don't get the wedgetail tip. They are junk.

They are a great boat. Extremely capable hull from when Chivers used the Pacemaker moulds. You must be looking at the one on Gumtree with the 115 Yamaha ? Mine originally had a 115 4-stroke Johnson (Suzuki) which went ok, maybe a little underpowered. The 150 is great. The best upgrade you can do for these is trim tabs, especially with the added weight of a 4-stroke on the rear. Trimming the nose down a little to get the nice sharp bow entry to carve choppy conditions makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I should have. My main aim for this was to demonstrate the flawed design of the wedgetail tip, as it’s position exposes it to bulk water and spray off the screen, whereas a conventional tip is really only exposed to direct rain. I figured this footage was so damning that the result would be obvious.

@@DizzConnected Iv got a few mates running these snorkel on there 200 series landscruiser and they all said they haven’t had a issue. Would be interesting to find out the reason why though.

Trust me it pours water in and ruins your air filter I have ruined two in 5000 J with just heavy rain

Much, MUCH. Better. I highly recommended to get a nice used guitar in preference to a new C40. They are junk.

@@DizzConnected Thanks. As far as I know, Yamaha CG101MS is a solid top guitar, unlike CG101 and CG101M which are laminated.

@@AkumanoKuma2236 yes, the 101MS has a solid Spruce top. The 101 and 101M are laminated, but still have Nato back & sides. C40 has laminated spruce top and Meranti back & sides. The CG (Concert Series) feel like a far greater build quality than the C (Academy Series). I have Alhambra and other high quality guitars and will still happily play my son’s CG101MS.

I think the Y62 option is on the other side (and probably others) so will not get the wiper wash. Splash spray from the screen will be the same though.

My drenched air filter came from driving through a downpour. The whole upstream face was soaked. This short video just demonstrates the moronic design of having an air intake sitting at the end of the wiper throw and on the air stream of spray coming off the windscreen. Did you not read the description ? Can you not see the bulk water being swept into the intake ? I didn’t want to ruin another filter. And the vehicle doesn’t need to be moving if the air blowing from the front is traveling at ~90kmh. Heard of wind tunnel testing ???

Yes, just 1 pipe, dumping on LHS. The single 3” gives a 12.5% cross-sectional increase over the stock dual 2” pipes, and enables connection to exhaust jack. For extreme conditions, a 3-bolt flange enables simple removal of the rear section, replaceable by dump pipe just forward of the rear differential. I plan to mount a small air tank on the vacant RHS, with connection point for the on-board ARB dual compressor.

I was told to expect a response after they’d analysed the video. After a couple of prompts, I gave up and made the video public so others could decide for themselves. The whole experience with TJM was woeful. Main intake hose clamp (jubilee clip) was left completely loose, Shabby silicone work falling out of the junctions. Never again.

The conclusion for the test was the same for pouring rain - a wet air filter due to a ridiculous intake design.

Thanks mate. We stayed about half way up the island, so I’m a bit foggy on timeframes and can’t recall if the 6-7hr round-trip is from the homestead or barge point I recall that the homestead is about 45mins north of the barge point. Our lap of the island was broken up with stops at various locations, plus lunch and dinner at different stops, so we made a full day of it and got back in the dark. Def allow 6h minimum for the round trip. Just need to find the ideal speed to float over corrugations. We had no problem with fuel or water. The camper holds 165L of water, and we had plenty left. For fuel, we filled up at Overlander, (Standard 85L tank) and took an extra 80L in Jerry cans. (2 on roof, 2 on camper). We got back to Overlander with 20+ litres to spare. The Disco was awesome on fuel. We came across others who really struggled, chewing through their fuel supplies and having to buy extra on the island @ $3.70+ per litre. Drop tyre pressures right down to reduce the engine load in the soft stuff and it’ll make a big difference to fuel consumption. (I had 13psi in camper) Skull-dragging a trailer through soft sand will kill fuel supplies. I’ve added an overall trip summary to the video description 👍🏼

Finbar Mills We’ve done some harsh, remote trips in ours and it’s never let us down. There is the thought of “what if something DOES go wrong”, as regional service / repair options are very limited. However, I’ve done all the servicing on mine, including preventative maintenance on suspension and a Compressor rebuild etc, so I have confidence that The vehicle is fit for the trips and I can deal with most issues. I also have a Gap iiD tool for codes and calibrations etc. All of this, combined with a wealth of knowledge from a great online community of owners etc, provides a lot of reassurance. Sure, you don’t see many on the remote roads, but they are an amazing vehicle for touring and off road work. Check out my Dirk Hartog Island video for out most recent trip

@@DizzConnected I just went out and got one. I think I might invest in that Gap tool just for peace of mind. Thanks for the advice, by the sounds of it you can either get a lemon or you get a legend.... lets hope i purchased the latter.

Finbar Mills Nice work. Get on the Discovery 3/4 Owners Group on Facebook - it’s a great source of info and tips. Read the pinned post for all the main things. Did you get a TDV6, V6, or V8 ? If TDV6, One thing to check ASAP is if your belts have been done, and if they have, has the oil pump been upgraded ?

@@DizzConnected TDV6 and yes all the belts have been done, oil pump replaced, torque converter reconditioned and the transmission has been serviced. No mention of the air compressor though. I will have to sign up for the owner's group. Cheers for the replies.

Thanks mate. The D3 performed flawlessly and ate up everything we pointed it at. Mine has a remap, big ProSpeed Intercooler and a custom 3” stainless single system exhaust. I use a GAP iiD tool to manage the air suspension / ride heights. (No need for lift rods etc) Poly bushes on the Front upper control arms I went down to 17” wheels to get maximum sidewall for the soft sand. Big wheels and low profile tires have no place in these environments.

Aussie Restorations & Mods Per the description, this ridiculous design puts the air intake at the end of the wiper sweep, so in heavy rain the wipers deliver bulk water directly into the intake. In addition, it also sucks a lot of fine mist and rain droplet splash from the screen surface. The result is a wet air filter.

I’d say the sound is close to how it is in person. Decent note but not obnoxiously loud. This is my work vehicle, so a straight-through wasn’t an option. I think the straight-through systems sound very airy at idle. One thing to mention is that the hi-flo cats do jack sh!t, and the vehicle ends up smelling like a 1950’s tractor. Seriously stinks, so is not a good idea if working out of it etc. ... and drive-through staff at Maccas etc will hate you.🙁🙁🤪

Stabbing the throttle like that will always produce some soot from excess fueling / burning rich. Under normal driving conditions it is very clean.

GrozOutTV I recommend a cat-back system to keep the original cat. The hi-flow cat on my system does jack all and it smells like an old tractor, very sickly - which is bad when working out of the back of it.

Damien Moore Not at all. At cruise it’s got a subtle audible note, but no drone. The rear hotdog stops any drone resonance. When pushed it opens up to a nice throaty sound, giving plenty of audible feedback on how the engine is working. (The main reason I had it done was so I could hear it in soft sand driving without having to look at the tacho) Good for towing too.

DizzConnected thanks for the feedback. I’ve been reluctant to look at any exhaust due to the pleasant quiet drive I get on those longer trips. But I do miss the exhaust note and being able to know what the motor is doing whilst concentrating on the trails. Can I ask what brand/model exhaust you have? Or was it custom made?

Damien Moore it was all custom made. I have a fair few pics of the install that will help your design, if you’re keen. Just let me know your your email / contact details) I also have a flange just forward of the rear diff which enables a 5min removal of the rear section, replaced by a short dump pipe just in case I’m heading anywhere rocky (to prevent any of the normal damage risk where it passes under the diff)
