how different is it to weld stainless pipe compared to regular pipe , i welded regular pipe in weld school with tig and some stainless but we didnt do any stainless pipe
To me the welding part is close to the same with pipe stainless seems to weld cleaner but for pipe like this video you should purge it if it’s gonna be anything important. Plate and angle and stuff like that you can’t really purge not sure if that’s what your asking too or how that welds too it does get hotter faster though and you wanna get moving faster when you start your arc if you sit around too long it can trap you a little and not weld as good. Also it is possible to get stainless too hot and kinda cook the weld and it looses some of its stainless properties. That’s just a little what I experience and learned Jody’s videos are definitely better than I can explain a bunch of good ones on here and good podcasts he has too still up welding tips and tricks podcast talks about stainless in some episodes. I’d say if you can weld carbon steel pipe it’s not a huge difference in the welding maybe temperature and speed but definitely the purging is what you wannna do not sure if my comment helped at all 👍
suck back is when you re melt the root. sometimes it pushes thru further with extra penetration but more often it sucks back and creates low places on the penetration side. Sometimes minimal suck back can be acceptable but It is not desirable
CWB SS It’s to see who can, and can’t with stick. One customer wanted the certification, but used tig on the job. (Of course you needed the tig SS certification as well) Yep, that kinda stupidity is years behind me now. Good riddance… qualifier/certification testing. Don’t get me wrong here, welding was a lot of fun for the 35 years 😂
Always love watching the master at work 👍🍻
appreciated as always, thx jody.
