    Disagree on it being EDC or inconspicuous or a travel camera. Side by side with an M11 it is almost the same size, put a small lens on M11 and you get the same size weight camera of course missing AF. It is not compact and there are many other lighter and smaller body cameras as EDC, travel or inconspicous. D-Lux 8 definitely is all of the above. It is a great camera I agree. Anyone who hasnt seen this camera I suggest if you have access to a Leica store or you can rent one try that first. If money is no object of course go for it. With Leica you also lose money. Check used Leica prices and you see that. But in any case great video showing its capabilities and the AF of course. Thanks

    Video @ 1:34 'quick slideshow' - Please don't take this wrong (it's meant to be constructive), but you seem to be experiencing a "Rangefinder Rookie" issue/habit. With the insecurity of focusing correctly, the RF nubbie photographer focuses THEN IMEDIATLY fires off the shutter. Some of your heavily centered images are proof of this. Please, everybody needs to instead practice focusing THEN RECOMPOSE to the 'Rule Of Thirds' or employ the 'Looking Room' rule... 👼

    Video @ 7:02 - "C L A - it will get one eventually" - Look folks, with the exception of : A lens going through a Rodeo or beach shoot where you introduced sand & grit, OR if one sees oil migrating onto the aperture blades, OR it's been decades with the same lubricants inside the focus helical where out-gassing is beginning to deposit a micro-cast of haze/fog, I consider these wonderful optics 'Maintenance Free' - So, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - BTW, I'm a Leica repair technician...

    You're video cemented my decision to upgrade from a Q (type116) to a Q3. I'd like to also purchase a M11-P. IMO I feel its good to have an AF camera to compliment a manual focus camera. I think the Q3 would be a great walkaway camera.

    Thsnk you for a nice review. when I look at your photos they are all out of focus not sharp enough. something you expect from a Leica camera. I own this lens and I like it and yet it is not as sharp as my 35 Cron or my 50 LUX, and I admit sharpness is a very big issue for me. Take care

  • @c724cjw
    @c724cjw 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Kinda have mix feelings about Thypoch, they basically copy the optical formula of the 35/50 lux, in one hand it makes it more accessible for the general user, but on the other hand, it feels bad to support another Chinese company copying other designs rather than coming up their own.

    • @GenericPhotographer
      @GenericPhotographer 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I see what you mean. They’re not completely identical optically but very close. And their design is 100% unique. I don’t have too much of a concern for the optical similarities, especially since there are even a few advantages going for the Thypoch, namely the 14 blades and a de-clickable aperture. Lens light lab is definitely the one that I’m looking at when someone says something about knockoffs.

    I love shooting my M lenses on my SL2, which is about all I use it for these days except for the 90MM L prime, which is a superb portrait lens. In-camera IBIS and viewfinder fantastic with M lenses. I use my M10-R for street work and just for the fun of it, but serious work i use the SL2/M combo. I bought an a7r5 last Fall for wildlife and BIF, since the SL2/Leica L-Mount combo was useless due to the inferior autofocus and clunky, slow. The SL3 seems on a par with the better Lumix cameras, which are not comparable to the top Sony models. Don't see dropping an additional $7000 on an SL3 just to shoot M lenses and the 90mm L.

    • @GenericPhotographer
      @GenericPhotographer หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the sake of the comparison, using a SL2-S retains the Leica sensor and image quality while guaranteeing consistent results/not relying too heavily on the rangefinder. I don’t tend to have an issue with nailing focus with 50 lux but might as well remove that variable from the equation

    In the photo of the couple sitting on a bench, the Summilux has a much more 3D pop and better microcontrast, the colors in the Typoch are muted. In the other portraits, the Summilux also has better separation. Optical glass is very expensive as are optical coatings. so don't expect any miracle, Manufacturing in China is cheaper, but don't expect anything for free. If it's only worth $800, that's its value, not a gift, and even with that price, Typoch logically makes money.

    • @GenericPhotographer
      @GenericPhotographer หลายเดือนก่อน

      95% of the time you’re not gonna see a difference. I could only tell a difference at medium differences and when I go looking. On film it would be even more difficult to distinguish. You’re definitely right about nothing being free. Leica sources and produces some incredible optics and their lenses are unique for that. Just take the color accuracy, micro contrast, sharpness and lack of loca in the images as an example. It’s projecting perfect colors constantly. I can’t remember where I read it but iirc the most expensive element in the Summilux lens group costs around 1000$ …so that’s more than the Thypoch lens itself 🫣

    Why not compare this lens to the voigtlander 50mm f1.5? If you can afford the lux, you won't be buying a Chinese lens... if you can't afford it, you look at better priced options like all the offerings from voigtlander (wonderful proveen lenses) or the zeiss f1.5. No one who can afford the lux will waste money on this chinese copy, and unless it's very cheap i rather go for voigt or zeiss. Simera is really pushing this to all youtubers...

    • @GenericPhotographer

      Happy to compare it with the Nokton but this Simera is the only modern, FLE, aspherical 50 1.4 other than the summilux for the M mount. If there’s a lens to compare the Simera with its most definitely the Summilux. The c sonnar isn’t even in the same category. @GenericPhotographer floating element doesn't necessarily make it a better lense, and if it's going to be used on a rangefinder, not that it will make much of a difference... Yes, the zeiss is more about the look it produces. I guess if this lens goes for cheap it's a great option..
