Bushcraft, outdoor survival and general appreciation of being in nature. Unlike many others in this space, I'm not an instructor or an expert; I'm just a guy learning as I go, and sharing it all with you. Expect overnight trips, bushcraft techniques, and gear showcases and reviews.
3 Days in the Norwegian Alps
Me and Elias spent a weekend walking through the alps of western Norway, starting in Molladalen, and heading towards Standal. Fog and poor visibility make it difficult to traverse the vertical landscape, but we make it work.

In late July 2022 I crossed part of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. I was dropped off at the northern edge, and traversed the tundra, first southwardly and then turning westwards after a couple of days. I had never spent a full week alone, and certainly not so far from civilization. After seven days, I had walked close to 90kms, carrying around 22kgs. Let me know if you have any questions!...

Which backpack do you use when you have the Fibre Bag -18 with you?
In this video I used a 55 liter bag, but have since switched to a 95 liter bag. I have also invested in the down version of the same bag to save some space on longer trips where I need more food😊.
Which model?
Bergans Trollhetta 95L, sometimes with side pockets (6+6L). You can see me use it in most of my more recent videos😊
Dude! You’re a legend for even trying. I bought this bag and returned it within a few days. Really wanted to try it but a friend talked me into returning it and buying a down bag by RAB…it’s pack size is HUGEE Still not tried it. Plan is to try it this year 😂
Hahaha yeeah, it is very large, I ended up getting the down version and am very happy with that one. I use the down bag as a 3/4 season bag, and then double up for proper winter stuff (beyond -10 ish).
@@Giskeoutdoorsman I have more camping equipment, than sense or time for it 😂
I recently picked up a Nortent gamme 4! Still havent tried that OR the Gstove for it (also bought 2 years ago)😂
Oooh! Been drooling over those for years, you've got to let me know how you get on when you do!
Great video and trip!! I went to Hardangervidda this August and loved it! Where did you get dropped off at the northern edge? Would love to go back again :)
Thank you! I started close to Tinnhylen, you can get there by car if you use the toll road. Where did you go? I also spent about a week there this august, but further south this time 😊. (Video coming, just have to make time to edit)
I love the style of your videos:) Great drone shots and beautiful music👍🏻 Was great to meet you on our trip in Hardangervidda✌🏻
Heey! Thank you🙌 Good to see you guys made it back in one piece, heard you had a hard time crossing one of the rivers north of Hellevassbu!
Helt riktig! 😊 Viktig å ta gode valg, særlig i fjellet!
Great video. thanks! I will be in Femunden next week, plan to hike from Elgå to Langen, and then take the boat back to Elgå. Don't have too much experience being outdoors yet, so I will be using the marked paths and stay at or close to huts, but have a tent with me as well. Let's see how that goes. :)
Spennende!
:D PS: I'm sorry for any mistakes. I am trying my best. :)
Awesome video! What tent are you using? 😊
I used the Naturehike Vik 1, very light and inexpensive. A bit too light for the norwegian mountains in my opinion, since the winds can be very strong. After 20+ nights I experienced a malfunction due to the wind pushing a metal part into the rainfly eventually causing a leak. Definitely repairable, and for most users the tent is perfectly fine, but not quite robust enough for me😊
beutiful, truely beutiful
Thank you❤️
PS! Flott filming med dronen 👌
Tusen takk Lars!
Very beautiful! Cool adventure. Looks just like here but those “lakes” (fjords?) are probably salty. Greetings from Switzerland
Thank you! Yeah you can see the fjords in some of the clips, like in the background at 10:51.
Takk for turen.
This was a great surprise. Keep up the great work. 🎥👏🏻
Thank you!😊

The landscape is quite spectacular up there ! I wonder if the fog was created by the the difference between the warmer air and the cold snow left on the ground. You where right to be careful on the mountain , the terrain was very rugged . Crossing those streams can be challenging , I alway's detach my hip belt and chest strap when doing so in case I fall in the water . I hope you still enjoyed your hike despite the foggy weather . Thanks for sharing
I think you're exactly right. I remember on the second evening, the air went from completely clear to absolutely fogged out in a manner of minutes, which I think was caused by the cool air falling down the valley, and the warm air rising from the fjord. Detatching the clips and straps is a good rule of thumb, I remember doing that when I got halfway across the larger creek I waded last summer, after feelin the strength of the current. Very much enjoyed it, and especially when the weather cleared up enough on day 2 so that we could see more of the verticality! :)
Could you do a review on the mammut protect fiber sleeping bag please?
I could yes😊 Although lately I've been using the down variant, I could do a comparison maybe?
That would be so helpful thank you.
Hey very cool, have been looking into going here this July/August. What's the situation with cellphone reception? I'm planing to go alone and I'm not sure if I would need to get a Satellite phone. Also any tips regarding maps?
Thanks! Cell reception is very spotty, but if you can find a hill you might get lucky pretty deep into the park. After the trip I bought a garmin inreach mini, which lets me send messages through my phone as if I had reception and lets me get weather reports and do basic navigation. There are good paper maps, bought mine at the local sporting goods store south of Elgå. Main navigation was through the ut.no app, which lets you download maps and shows your position through your phones gps. There were several points in the trip were I was days away from the trail and moving through fairly rocky terrain. If I broke my leg or hit my head, I doubt I would be able to get help. Absolutely recomend getting some form of emergency communication device, such as an inreach.
@@Giskeoutdoors Thanks a lot of the info. I tend to stay a bit closer to the trail. I reckon having the option to send for help is a bit easy on the mind.
Man you're videos are so cool cheers 👍
Thanks my dude🙌
Great video !!
Thank you!😊
Takk for innspillet😊
The quality of yours videos really do get better every time! I hope you get the views you deserve. Looking forward to the next adventure.
Thank you, I really appreciate that😊 You're doing your part by leaving a comment👏
Wow , its fun to have a playground like that almost in your backyard ! The scenery is quite beautiful up there . Glad the weather was on your side because I remember you as somebody who forgets to bring some items sometimes 😉 Elias seems to be a good hiking partner for you , he has the look of a real mountainer ! Thanks for the video !

Next time, put the poncho on top of your tent my friend;-)
Haha, yes I figured that out eventually😅. New tent now though, so hopefully I wont need to🤞

@@Giskeoutdoors well , my question was more ,do you have a longer version of this trip 😄
@@bonpecheur4565 oh I see!😂 No sadly not, only filmed a small amount, so this was more or less all I could make from it. But do look up my instagram (same name), I post a bit more from smaller trips there😊
Great videos. Cheers from Alaska
Thank you😊
Fantastic video of your trip and Hardangervidda. Thansk for sharing!
Thank you! Happy to see you enjoyed it 😊
That poncho tarp is really nice! Do you leave the guy lines attached? Or do you attach them only when you need it as a tarp? Also, it looks like some areas had enough trees for hammock camping. Do you do that much, or at all?
I tried leaving them attached, so it would be faster to pitch in a hurry, but it did make it less usable as a poncho. So I think I will have to do some more testing to find a better way to use it. I love hammock camping, it was my go-to when I lived in the more forested eastern norway. Now that I live in the mountainous west, I mostly go for tents or just straight on the ground. There are still trees here, but I would be much more limited in camp site selection with a hammock.
Can you use this sleeping bag as a jacket on breaks so you dont have to bring a down jacket? The pictures looks like it has a zip going both ways so you could theoretically have your feet and your arms out and walk around with it on, right?
Well, in theory yes. But in practical terms it definitely will not replace a jacket. The arm holes make it possible to do some camp tasks without leaving the bag, and it is possible to walk around like you say, but only on completely dry ground. It's about as useful as any other sleeping bag as a place to stay warm on longer breaks.
Nerheten av Måløy?
Litt lenger nord, Haramsfjella på Sunnmøre😊
I want to go there
Great Video! Just found your channel and now watching your videos one at a time. May i ask, from which brand is the mosquito jacket? Greetings from Germany :-)
Thank you! Great to hear, hope you enjoy them (maybe the newer ones more so than the older😅). The jacket is by the brand Alaska. I liked it a lot, except that the arms were very short. I'm getting a larger one for this summer.
16:17 fancy crossing the river only having to go back and pick the camera up... perhaps a small Drone camera might help fly itself to you on the other side...
Hehe, oh I wish, but drones are prohibited in national parks in Norway.
@@Giskeoutdoors fair enough. Keep it pristine for the wildlife. 👍🖖✊️
