#30 What is this strange object? How it was used, its history and mechanics?
No lockpicking or combination lock decoding today. Instead I look at this unusual strange object which was designed nearly 100 years old. This TIC-TAC (not TikTok) bag was made by the Richmond Time Recording Company and was used as a conduit between a Bookmaker and a bookie's runner. Here I describe the reasons why this bag was invented, the internals and its possible use within the horse racing fraternity, between 1926 - 1960.

#29 How I struggled to retrieve / decode the lost code of a Zhege combination lock
มุมมอง 1.1K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I had difficulties in finding the lost code of this four wheel combination padlock using the normal methods, so I had to modify the indirect method, to find a more repeatable/dependable way of obtaining the code. While not proven I suspect this method would work for similar versions made by Grifema, Diyife and others. Suitable for gym school lockers or travel?
#28 Banksy, that ABUS 85/60 padlock and me, a tenuous link!!!
มุมมอง 594 หลายเดือนก่อน
#28 This picture hangs on my wall, which is a copy of the art reputedly created by Banksy called "Night Box". I was curious to know how big the rat was in real life picture, so I compared it to the ABUS 85/60 padlock. Being satisfied the rat was nearly 12" high, I also decided to pick the lock.
#27 How to retrieve the lost code of a Desired Tools combination lock using the indirect method.
มุมมอง 6758 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here I show how to decode and open a combination lock, with an unknown code, using the indirect method. I use the "Desired Tools" lock to show this method, but I suspect the same decoding approach will work on a similar FortLocks or Zhege combination padlock. I first learnt this method from Potti314, check out his TH-cam channel : - www.youtube.com/@Potti314
#26 The "Binding Order" of a cylinder/pin tumbler lock, a brief introduction.
มุมมอง 10010 หลายเดือนก่อน
What is the binding order of a cylinder lock. In this video I give a brief explanation of what "binding order" means, a couple of examples of what causes binding order. I show how a Challenge Lock can be opened (using the S.P.P. lock picking technique) once the binding order is known.

Here I take a look at the padlock provided for a locker at the 2008 Reading music festival. I look at a couple of bizarre features that made me chuckle, I show how to decode the lock and find out about it’s secret past and it's actual use. This lock closely resembles the FJM Security SX-689 combination lock.

#21 Zhege FortLocks gym combination padlock. Code change, how to decode / recover the combination.

I'd like to thank the Lockpickingcuber. It was while watching his video #7, that I had one of those "eureka" moments. The video can be seen here :- th-cam.com/video/tJEzK1nijx8/w-d-xo.html

มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Here I show how to set a new code for a Squire CP40 (old style) combination padlock. I show the owner how to recover their forgotten code (open the lock), which in turn exposes a weakness in the locks security rating. I also dismantle/gut the lock and try to explain its operation. It is recommend that this lock is not used to secure anything of high value.

#16 Gym combination locks.....how good is yours? Should you be using these on your locker?

Here I look the combination locks that were available from four different gyms, to see how secure they are, and how easy they are to decode and open. It took me less that 10 minutes to open these (with little or no practise) and shows how vulnerable this type of padlock is to an attack (lock picking). May you suggest a good combination padlock?

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching. Unfortunately most combination locks have weakness so I wouldn’t recommend one. It really depends on your situation, is it to be used as locker lock, outdoors, unattended for long periods of time, how much you want to spend etc. One of the reasons I decode so many combination locks is to find one that is reasonably priced, strong and difficult to decode. I haven’t found one yet and I doubt if I ever will. The one in video #13 is a basic starter and if you can find one then a Sargent & Greenleaf 8077 is hard to beat, but make sure you get one with a known combination and change key. If you do get a 8077 watch lots of TH-cam as they can be difficult to change the code. ***I wouldn’t lock anything of any value with a combination lock*** I hope this helps.

      I’m sorry, not sure what the clicks are on your lock, all of the wheels on my lock spin freely. Is your lock old or rusty?

    Whats the reson for using a mettal oin to mive the wheels and not your finger?

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @imbloodyknackerd. I suspect reason for using an implement is the it’s easier to see the wheel spring/bounce. When you use a finger it tends to obscure the wheel that you are working on. Hope this help.

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Assuming you have the right code, will the shackle open if you pull on it? It is possible that the shackle spring is crushed etc. Thank you for watching and your comment.

      @@ricardasbalsys9363you can't use a shim on these as the palls locking mechanism is fixed, not sprung. Equally, you can't use a feeler tool between the wheels as the wheels are shielded internally and externally. If this lock is jammed and thus can't be picked as shown here, then it's probably going to be easier to cut through the chain or hasp in an emergency. Otherwise it's easy enough to destroy this locks casing and split it open to remove it. The shackle is through-hardened toughened steel alloy so a hss saw or 24" Bolt croppers won't do it. 36" Bolt cutters should work but it's likely the jaws will get damaged in the process and they're expensive to replace. Hence using a cheap chisel and lump hammer.

    When using that method, I usually try jiggling all of the other three other wheels at each turn of the first one cos they don't always bind in order. Also on some locks, like the ABUS you have there, I find pushing down on the shackle works better than pulling on it.
